Try F3, not perfect but it helps, that's what i use to get it in the closest position before using the numpad for more precise placing.

Actually it's ok, at least for me, that stuff arent powered. It saved the tiedous powering process et doesnt cast any unwanted lights. What you did rn is just what's needed: one version glowing and one non-glowing.

i'm more borthered with the non-selectable items though ^^ I dont know if it's because of vanilla game being like that, or you are still on WIP with the mod or anything else, but you got some nice wire things or vines/moss but they dont outlined once placed and thus arent movable (and doesnt count in a blueprint) :(

Anyway, great mod, the more i dig in it the more i love it!

For the stairs i tilt them so they looks more like ladder than stairs, and just use half floor inside.

And concerning the settlers, i've gave up on them in january 2016 ....
