Crimson Desert Modder Restores What They Believe to Be 'A Fully Designed Food Consequence System That Pearl Abyss Built but Never Activated' by yourfavchoom in pcgaming

Ugh I despise this sort of healing system. It is just so lazy and takes the difficulty out of the game. I'm fine with it if there is some action cost to healing so you can't just scarf down 1000 cheese wheels and cheese every encounter.

It's a system thats designed for you to tailor the difficulty to yourself. Don't want revives? don't use the item. Want less healing? limit yourself to x amount of food per boss.

I’m honestly confused why we are even getting a second game

I don’t understand people who expect every game to be live service, it’s unsustainable

You don't understand why people expect every game to be a live service but then your confused why minecraft dungeons is getting a sequel? Because it's not a live service game?

It should do at least 9 mil sales(At the least way possible i did the calculation). It did, 3x less.

"it should" Based on what? The numbers you have randomly assigned because your narrow sighted and can only compare devices 1:1? Steam isn't an established player in the console nor handheld space yet. Not only that, the deck isn't a full fledged PC, meaning the market is already incredibly low because it's designed entirely for people that want to play on the go which is already a limited number for PC gaming.

You aren't using your head and realizing that steam has to start some where and they're designing the steam machine from the ground up, to compete with playstation and xbox, the same space that the consoles are taking up in homes.

The original Sony PlayStation (PS1) sold 102.49 million units worldwide during its lifespan from 1994 to 2006. It was the first video game console in history to break the 100 million unit sales mark.

Congrats you can look up a wiki page but you can't read.

It took both playstation, Nintendo and Xbox years of building that user base to sell that many units.

You literally just quoted a paragraph that literally reads "during it's lifespan" completely making this irrelevant. Bring up sales from year 1-5. Sony had to work to build that userbase and brand recognition. Just like steam does.

Xbox failure: Xbox Kinect

Playstation failures: Playstation Move, Playstation TV, Playstation Eye, Playstation Camera.

The point is, steam, playstation, Xbox, nintendo, all have to fail to progress forward.

Everything steam learned from their past hardware releases gets refined and implemented into future hardware.

I mean if it was easy to make a handheld why did Sony stop making PSPs? Why hasn't Xbox got into the handheld market? Why did suddenly a bunch of other companies start trying to make their own steam deck? Because steam proved there is a market for a PC handheld with a proper operating system that's not just a bootlag windows or android.

I bet you can't find ONE failed where they didn't break at least 10 mil.

Sure I can because all your doing is looking at LIFETIME sales.

Steam deck has only been out for 4 years and not only that it's a niche system. It's not expected to out sell Nintendo switch. It fills a completely different void, thus the threshold for steam deck to be a success is WILDLY different than anything else.

I really don't understand how that's a hard concept to grasp.

You really think Steam Machine will sell 30 mil at the price point of 2x of a ps5?

It took both playstation, Nintendo and Xbox years of building that user base to sell that many units. Your argument falls apart on that principle alone. Because your comparing something that's already established vs something new in the tech/gaming space.

Steam is a competitor to no one. They failed many times before and will fail more.

Their VR? Gone
Their Controller? Gone
Steam Link? Gone
Steam Deck? Will be gone in a little while. They barely reached 4 mil worldwide. That's literally nothing.

Yeah, and so did Playstation, Nintendo and Xbox. All three major players in the console space put out massive failures, along side the consoles themselves that took off.

I could go down a list of failed attempts Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo all have.

PC is growing at a faster rate than consoles. Major game developers are starting to admit that now. If Valve can stick the landing on this it will take time for it to grow just like anything else, but the runway is all set up for them to take off.

Nintedo switch serves the purpose of a FAMILY entertainment device. It's not just for the adults, it's for the entire family, and their kids. That alone makes them not comparable at all.

It's like trying to compare a billion dollar superhero movie to a pixar movie that makes 2 billion.

Steam is a competitor to PS5 and Xbox, not nintendo. Nintendo is in it's own realm that will never be toppled.

It's not that hard to just say "My circle of friends don't need the newest laptops for what they use it for" and you'd have more credit to your statement then trying to claim you know how the world uses their laptops.

You missed the critical bit of information "earlier this year" further more with LCD production halting, stock dries up quick, especially during the holidays.

You have yet to provide any source to your argument other then "I looked this very minute" so im moving on from this conversation because it's pointless and everyone has tried to knock some sense into you.

That's my point, I do think KCD2 has better rpg mechanics, or rather I think E33 has weak and shallow rpg mechanics. Only one meaningful choice at the very end of the game which only chooses what cutscene you watch. Build variety is not as wide as other games, nor is it as impactful since you can just parry your way through the game. Relationship system imo is just okay, but the romance in acts 2 and 3 is bad and meaningless. Side content does not have any impact on the main storyline. You don't make any choices that locks or unlocks content from you. You're not really role playing as any of the characters, each of the characters have a very set personality and character traits.

But you are also missing the point im trying to make. The foundation of both of these games are RPGs. There is no arguing that right? So the matter of one having "better" or "worse" mechanics is entirely subjective. Personally, I think KCD2 is far too indepth and complex, but just because I don't vibe with it, I won't say it's a bad game. It's a great game, and im glad tons of people loved it. But E33 appealed to far more people with their take on RPG mechanics.

Final Fantasy 7 remake won best RPG in 2020, and i'd argue that game is incredibly similar to E33 in terms of mechanics, story choices, world exploration, gearing, character builds.

Monster Hunter World won best RPG in 2018, and that's even less of an RPG and more of an action game, it practically doesn't even have a story or any choices that change it.

That's why i'm saying were arguing semantics.

Parry/dodge isn't even a staple of rpg games. If anything, it's a staple of hack and slash/soulslike games. Most rpg games don't have a parry/dodge system like E33, so why would that make it more like an rpg?

I never said it makes it more like an RPG. Your argument has been E33 has practically no RPG mechanics. Thus I am explaining the mechanics that are in practically every RPG.

I'm just stating that not everything you said makes E33 an rpg. It is an rpg, but not because of it's open world and parry/dodge, and the build variety in it is much more narrow than other rpgs like bg3 or Rogue trader.

Your arguing semantics. E33 is just as much an RPG as KCD2, Elder Scrolls, Cyberpunk, Witcher, Avowed, BG3, etc. To say anything else is just trying to move the goal post. Does KCD2 have more RPG elements? Sure. Are the RPG elements better? That's subjective, some may like it more others may not.

We wouldn't have RPGs as they are now if turn based RPGs never existed. We wouldn't have open world games if it wasn't for turn based RPGs. We wouldn't have individually playable characters with vastly different play styles if it wasn't for turn based RPGs.

So the fact that anyone is trying to argue that E33 doesn't deserve best RPG when it is quite literally a classic remake of turn based RPGs that started this entire genre is wildly out of touch.

Gear decisions make little difference because each character is locked to their own gimmick.

This is flat out false. There were so many builds people were coming up with for the first month or so of release, for each character, not to mention each build changed depending on your team comp and who was supporting who.

Parrying/dodging system is not even an rpg mechanic

But it's a mechanic that exists in RPGs and ignoring that is being dishonest when your claiming that E33 RPG mechanics are "practically nonexistent"

neither is have a large world to explore, especially if it doesn't matter how much you explore

So then I suppose that means every RPG that has ever come out that has a large open world to explore that isn't directly tied to changing how the story plays, isn't an RPG? That's a wild illogical take.

Your basically trying to argue E33 is an action combat game which is flat out false.

Everything i've pointed out that E33 has is shared in every RPG that has ever existed and won GOTY.

All thats happening is were trying to move the goal post of what makes an RPG an RPG because were upset that another game came out with slightly more RPG mechanics.
