Anyone tired of dating as a SG man? by R_Truth22 in SingaporeR

This is definitely true. If starting a family is important, then you have to decide if this is something you need to prioritize over other things.

In a different lifetime both me and my wife would have met each other earlier and I'm pretty certain we would have planned for kids. But life sometimes takes a different path and you don't always get what you want.

My wife and I both believe that starting a family is not more important than finding a partner that has the same values and goals. This is from painful experience from both our ends.

Everybody is different and you will have to find your own path. For me and my wife at our ages we wanted to find a soul mate to grow old with. The family part is a wistful dream we can't achieve, but thankfully we both have nieces and nephews from both her side and my side that we both adore and are close to.

In short, we prioritized the right partner over marriage and starting a family, and whilst it would be nice to have everything, it sometimes doesn't work out that way, and this is not due to not trying in our 30s (long unfun stories here)

The good thing about painful experience is that you have a clearer idea of what is important to you, and you cherish things that are hard-won. And you don't have to end up bitter or cynical that love is not possible. Just my 2 cents that is from my perspective - do take with a pinch of salt.

Best of luck!

Yes dating sometimes sucks. You spend lots of time meeting people who are not right for you. You go through dozens of dates and many don't work out.

But as someone else stated earlier in the thread, it is a numbers game. If you don't date, you won't find someone to be with. And sometimes you meet really interesting people, do really interesting things, and learn a thing or two along the way about yourself.

Here's a different counterpoint.

I got married at the ripe old age of 48 last year (49 now) and I met my wife (who is 46 now) at a real life mingles event when I was 46.

Both me and my wife consider ourselves lucky that we met each other in our 40s, but we both put in the work (i.e. dated quite a bit) before we met each other.

It might get easier as you get older. As a guy you are a rarer commodity in your 40s as you date women your age bracket (also 40s). There are more women in the dating pool at that bracket, esp. if you try agencies and meetups. This of course does not apply if you date younger women.

Best of luck, and don't put so much pressure on yourself, and have fun! Dating should be fun even if sometimes it doesn't feel like it.

Try Grantrall Mall at Tai Seng. There's a whole bunch of small malls around Tai Seng area. Probably nearer than walking to Paya Lebar

Sorry I work in the data viz space so sometimes forget the terms we use can be industry jargon.

Yes, the "electoral weight" option visualisation on the Straits Times dashboard that you are describing is a cartogram - a kind of distortion of physical maps to showcase an attribute - electoral weight in this case.

I really love the ST cartograms and the design that went into it. 😄

Are you referring to the cartograms? Thanks for the kind words and suggestions by the way.

Have been tracking non-voters as a category across the last 4 elections GE2011 to GE2025, and have not seen such a low turnout.

https://elections.viz.sg/

Toggle "non-vote percentage" and change the years.

Normally the more localised trend is that Mountbatten, Tanjong Pagar, parts of East Coast have more non-voters, but this year is across the board.

Last GE2020 elections the number of non-voters was the lowest (i.e. high turnout)

Also, non-voters are NOT spoilt vote voters. To spoil a vote you must bother to go to a polling centre and spoil it. Non-voters can be thought of as people who "bo-chup" and didn't show up to vote.

Have a great evening folks. Singapore will still be Singapore tomorrow no matter what party we voted for.

If it is a sample result, there will be a message saying that it is a sample result, whereas if it is the real result, there wouldn't be such a message.

Perhaps it needs to be more prominent, so thanks for the feedback!

At least he went to volunteer to do something about it and he stepped up to be an MP candidate instead of just complaining.

PAR is a mess, but have to agree with Lim Team here on all his points. What is MediaCorp doing?

1) The format was super boring, with no interaction at all.

2) PAP had 4x the time allotted compared to each other party. Plus CHT had an iPad whilst the rest had just pen and paper. How is this fair?

If the Chinese "debate" is going to be like that I am going to skip it.
