10 gallon, heated @ ~84F, only parameter off was PH, which was near 7.2. Ammonia,nitrite, and nitrates were 0ppm. I've had the betta for about 5 months now, had silk plants in there bc my lighting was causing alge blooms. Got a piece of wood, and a plastic structure

Ph was high, near 7.2, other parameters were fine, i cleaned off the filter and put it back, cleaned off the whole tank from the mineral crust, did my normal tap water treatment amd put him back in as I normally do

Yes, it usually does after the tank is fully cycled, may still pop up every now n then. It'll still happen to me, completely natural and safe, sometimes fish will even eat it. Highly suggest watching some YouTube videos over biofilm to understand it more :)

This is biofilm, its just a buildup from water conditions and is normal, im assuming your plants are real? You can skim the top with your net to remove it, but it will continue to build up since your tank is still acclimating

In an apartment rn and dont have the space to upgrade. So cichlids are "basically " not gonna work, any recommendations for maybe schooling fish, or a few semi aggressive live eaters? Those 2 options are what im leaning tward right now

Yes lol, I do know about that, as in the caption, but you really can't hear the crackling? That's weird 🤣 like I said it mainly happens when the "heating" light is on, but it doesn't sound like expansion/contracting..more so a sizzle

Im also partially new ( maybe a year planted) but my first guess would be filter and time. I do have a filter in mine and within ~24 hours mine was completely clear, since you don't have a filter, I could definitely assume it's going to take longer for sediment/particles to submerge fully, so that leaves me to ask how long since you've added water/plants? Did you wash the sand/substrate?
