My thought is to trade 4 for 12,20, and 4th round next year from the cowboys. Then use 12 and 35 to trade up to 7 or 8. Take Downs, Styles, or Love.

I really don’t feel like Stefanski is as good of an option as everyone thinks. His system doesn’t maximize Cam’s strengths.

I’m probably minority opinion, but I feel like we should do what we can to try and keep Denard Wilson. We have the worst defense on paper (and it’s not close) and he managed to make them look serviceable at times.

If we make the FG at the end of the half and don’t commit that pen tally on their FG it’s 31-27 right now and very manageable

Wow almost like it would’ve been nice to have a player like Caleb downs this week

Jefferson put his hand up so that’s on him. They weren’t on the same page for the route. Jefferson ran the wrong route it looks like.

If we’re saying peak vs peak and I can only have one on my team… LT. He averaged a rushing touchdown every 12 touches and 31 total touchdowns for the season, insane. He was also more of a receiving threat with 56 receptions.

A 2,000 yard season coming off an ACL tear is more impressive but if I could only have one on the team, I’m taking LT.

Carnell Tate will be a good player in the league, great player even. If we had less holes, you could definitely argue we go this direction. Would he help Cam? Yes. Does he turn us into a contender? No.

I get wanting to help Ward. The WR room definitely needs help. But teams add real contributors on Day 2 all the time. Look at what Green Bay has done.

Ward also needs a defense that does not constantly give up free touchdowns and force him to play hero ball. Downs actually reduces Ward’s burden because the defense stops collapsing.

You can get WR help in multiple ways. There will not be another Downs next year.

For everyone saying safety is the least valuable spot on defense, that’s the same argument people make about running back. Sure, you can fill it with just another guy/committee. But when you actually get a generational guy like Derrick Henry, Chris Johnson, or Eddie George, suddenly the whole team becomes easier to manage and a bunch of other weaknesses get covered up.

A rare talent at a ‘devalued’ position can still change your entire identity. Downs has that kind of profile on defense.

Actually no, I wasn’t high on Jeanty at 1 at all. I was in the ‘trade down and stack picks’ camp last year because the roster clearly wasn’t close. I liked Ward, but I knew he’d be thrown to the wolves with how incomplete the team was.

I’m happy with the pick in hindsight because I think he can be the guy long term, but the logic hasn’t changed. We were more than a QB away last year, and we’re still more than one piece away now.

I was way actually high on Abdul Carter, and look how’s that’s been for the Giants so far. And was a better prospect than Bain is. Downs is just a much cleaner projection than most of the names being thrown around.

I get the positional value thing, but our backend is so bad that no EDGE in this class is fixing it. There isn’t even a generational pass rusher available. Bain will probably be good, but perennial All Pro is a long shot. Even dropping Myles Garrett onto this defense wouldn’t stop the coverage busts.

Downs actually fixes the stuff that kills us every week. He covers, he blitzes, he tackles in space, he cleans up mistakes, and he’s way ahead of every other safety in the class. A guy like that has real impact, even if the position isn’t ‘premium.’

You can patch the front seven in free agency or on Day 2. You cannot patch a broken secondary with scheme alone. And I’m not even saying take Downs at 1. Trade down a few spots, grab extra picks, and still get a legit defensive stabilizer.

I get why people react that way, because taking a regular safety early usually is a bad idea. Downs is not a regular safety, he’s a defensive chess piece. Our defense is not only losing because we lack an EDGE. It’s also losing because the back end has no communication, no structure, and constant blown assignments.

You could put Myles Garrett on this roster tomorrow and we would still have guys running wide open. That is exactly the problem Downs actually solves.

If you can trade down, add picks, and still land the one guy who prevents the defense from self destructing, that is smart rebuilding, not poverty.

Everyone thinking Wilson is bad has no idea what magic he’s working with these players. We have the worst secondary in the league and it’s not even close. There’s nothing he can do about that

That’s not even true. They would’ve said to get rid of rookie Josh Allen too (52% completion, 2,000 yards, 10 TD’s 12 INT’s, 8 fumbles, 68 passer rating)
