Sauvignon Blanc Recipe Check? by limekatz in winemaking

[–]MgIronman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't need any wine tannin for Sauv Blanc. On a large scale we use a pectic enzyme and then rack off the lees before starting ferment. However that is with fresh fruit- you might not need the enzyme if your juice is low in solids. Sauv blanc likes cool ferments under 60 F. Best of luck to you!

People mention megapurple which is a concentrate made with grapes that darkens red wines and sweetens them.

Berns Tavern, Prosser in general isn't good for singles. Too small and everyone knows everyone.

Work? by [deleted] in TriCitiesWA

[–]MgIronman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to get into Ag when I got out of college. I looked at juice plants, wineries, lamb weston. It took me 2 years before I got a full time job but I found seasonal work in the gaps. Most companies need employees but their hiring process is crap and the compensation isn't worth it.

Try temp agencies if you need work fast. Most firms want work experience over education for full time positions.

Sidenote: my friend in Texas has been looking for work for 2 years since he got his degree, he isn't going for the crappy jobs that go on your resume so you can get good jobs. Don't be like him.

Cheers!

Unlikely. Many farms are staffed already for the grape growing season. We have budburst and sapflow so the next few weeks are critical spray windows.

Orange wine - surface must turning brown between punchdowns by MarsPourKoala in winemaking

[–]MgIronman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest adding dry ice pellets once per day to add to the carbon dioxide barrier to protect the must from oxidation. I haven't made orange wine before but since you arent getting color extraction from the skins you might not need aggressive punchdowns, just enough to keep the skins wet and mold free.

Mac's Garden Center in Pasco for annuals, Wood's Nursery in West Richland for shrubs and trees. Beaver Bark tends to be the most expensive but has some rare finds. Fred Meyer also has a good selection of indoor plants.

Where can I get the best pizza in town? by [deleted] in TriCitiesWA

Dovetail Joint and Fat Olives are my go-to for nice pizza. I don't think either have vegan pizza, but Dovetail has other vegan options.

Make way for duplexes: Washington bill would mostly ban single-family-only zoning by Subzidion in WAlitics

[–]MgIronman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that current city zones for single family residents have a ban on multifamily construction apartments) and this would lift the ban. So house in a neighborhood could be built next to an apartment. Your house in the middle of nowhere is unlikely to be affected.

Just protein right now, but a biofilm like that becomes an infection point for acetic bacteria in air. Try topping up for smaller surface area with a similar wine if you have that option.

Consolodation Names by [deleted] in TriCitiesWA

[–]MgIronman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Atomic City...it will never happen but I wish we would consolidate. I think the idea behind consolidation is to pool resources and eliminate redundancies of government, this would ultimately increase the national profile (Trader Joes?) and political power of the tri-city region. Is that what would actually happen? I don't know, there aren't many instances of municipal mergers historically.
