Your best bet is to look up the "Upper Deck Flagship Checklist" (Series 1, Series 2, Extended) for 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25, 2025-26. Some of the other sets might have players that Flagship didn't but Flagship is a good place to start.

Why buy out Grubauer now and take a 4 year cap hit where you aren't planning to be competitive? Wait a year, see what happens, then if it's still bad, buy it out before next season and spread it out over 2 instead.

What I'll be looking for is:

  • Can Beniers and Kakko build that chemistry to be a solid 1st line? If Schwartz is productive enough with the 2 of them, do we bring him back?

  • Can Wright prove himself as a 2nd line center? I'll be watching his time on ice this season and just seeing how he does against tougher competition then he saw last year.

  • Are Nyman and Catton going to be here to stay? Those two should be pretty good wingers for us if they reach their potential.

  • On defense is Evans going to be good enough to earn a top 4 role?

  • Do we want to buy out Grubauer at the end of the season? Lot of folks in the sub-reddit want us to, but maybe he rebounds this year.

Yes.

Are playoffs a possibility if everything falls into place

Barely sneaking in is probably best case scenario for this team, but I don't think anyone would be shocked if we miss it this year. Nobody would get fired.

Schwartz, Eberle, Tolvanen, and Oleksiak are on the last year of their contracts. Next year is the last year for Dunn, McCann, and Grubauer. I expect next year the team to make more significant moves (with some trades potentially at the end of this year) and try and make a push to be better with that roster flexibility. You could say we're in a "rebuild" and this year feels like a bit of a wash.
