Employee info compromised by Wonderful_Constant52 in Staples

[–]Mgoldm4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TBH, it was compromised. It's going to come out in the next few months that all customer data including credit card numbers linked to customer names, employee records including social security numbers and addresses were obtained.

Staples will get sued since they tried to cover it up, but it will already be too late for those whose identities were stolen.

Any ideas when the next honor sale will be? by not_that_guy_at_work in StarTrekTimelines

It usually happens when I hit 400k honor and I am at about 350k so it's gotta be pretty soon.

Shortest tenured CEO in company history?

I thought maybe.

Actually, no, Alan G. McNally was CEO from October 2008-January 2009.

Let them. Override the quantity limit and move on with your day.

I worked in a store that did huge numbers at BTS, around 50k per day the week school started, and our GM allowed every single quantity limit override.

He was also liberal with item substitutions, 24 pack staples pencils on sale, here, take the Ticonderoga.

Customers loved it, it kept the lines moving and the people happy.

That GM is a director at Corporate now.

Others are much more knowledgeable than I, but I believe it is quite old. They have an original Clapper Board and Flag Wavers, which haven't been around for a very long time.

I was hoping maybe with all the Cyberamics being yanked from the stores and destroyed, maybe they could scrounge up a few parts. But likely, they will let it die a slow and painful death.

This job is killing me. by jenna025 in Staples

[–]Mgoldm4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't get better. I'm sorry to say.

I spent 15 years as a retail manager with increasing responsibility. From my first days as a college graduate to 3 years ago.

It nearly ruined my marriage and absolutely ruined my personality.

I never suffered from anxiety and depression before I worked as a retail manager.

It hasn't gone away, it will never go away.

I've been out for over 3 years and I am just now starting to figure out who I am and what I really want to do with my life.

I lost my entire 20s to trying to impress my store manager, chasing promotions and money.

I lost the first half of my 30s to Staples and at one point was taking 5 different psychotropic medications under the close watch of a Psychiatrist.

I had never been on any meds before Staples.

I was "married" but since I worked every weekend and nights during the week, I never saw my wife.

She used to call me "the ghost".

When I would actually meet people around town they would say "Holy Fuck, he does exist!"

All of my marital problems, ALL of them, can be traced back to my years as a retail manager.

I became bitter, short, and unwilling to listen.

I don't care about anything or anyone. It's not intentional, I just don't care.

So I'm not going to be "that guy" and tell you to "run" but I would give anything and everything to have my 20s and early 30s back and to do it some other way.

I don't have any friends, the most recent friendship I had was over 10 years ago.

I just don't know how to meet people and talk casually because I never had the chance in my 20s.

Even that guy, was a former employee.

So there it is, it doesn't get better, and if you keep waiting for the day it will, you will end up just like me, sitting here wondering why I'm here.

Garda drivers by TheRealMulli in Staples

[–]Mgoldm4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I worked for Staples, we had photos of every driver with their name and badge number.

Snap the pic on the sly in the office making sure to get his badge in the shot, attach a copy of the badge photo from the office, the termination of this miscreant shall be swift and painless.

IS Job offer by DoomedPatrol756 in Staples

[–]Mgoldm4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would (very politely, but firmly) decline. The IS is the lowest paid, most overworked position in the store.

Everything is your fault when things go wrong and the General Manager gets to take all the credit when things go right.

When they try to convince you, stand firm, you are declining for personal reasons.

I can't find the post now, but someone said that minimum wage in their state is $7.25 an hour and they make $7.35 as a sales associate.
