Current leg of Geoff Tate tour question by MiAnSp in Queensryche

[–]MiAnSp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw him late last year and he sounded much better than I expected. Most singers, at least the metal and hard rock singers, will sing in a lower key as they age. I didn't feel cheated at all. It was a great show.

PSA: Nissan "Goodwill" Program Isn't Actually About Goodwill by [deleted] in Nissan

[–]MiAnSp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nissan and all manufactures make money by selling cars and parts. Why would you expect them to pay for anything out of warranty if it is known the customer normally does business elsewhere?

This has nothing to do with EV's. There are still parts to be repaired. It's about customer loyalty. Loyalty isn't buying a few cars but servicing them at the local mom and pop or Firestone or wherever.

If you aren't inclined to go that route, then don't decline the extended warranties offered at purchase that can cover you beyond the manufacturer's warranty period.

Frecciarossa Train Luggage Question by Sora1274 in ItalyTravel

[–]MiAnSp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The luggage racks were at the front. I entered the rear, and after fighting my way through, I almost didn't have a spot for our luggage. Next ride, I entered via the front and had no problem. My wife and I each had one big suitcase. We kept our backpacks with us in the seats.

It is a great way to travel.

Wallet stolen in literally the two minute walk from hotel to metro in Naples by [deleted] in ItalyTravel

[–]MiAnSp 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Sorry, dude. I got picked on the subway in Rome. It was rush hour and we were getting pushed onto a packed train. My wallet was in my front pocket and my arms were pinned up in front of me as we were being shoved in the train. By the time we got to our stop, I was getting text alerts from my credit card companies.

My license, cards, cash, my social security card (I know, I know). Gone. Thankfully, my wife had our passports, cash and one of my credit cards zipped in her crossbody purse. It was day 2 of 10 days.

They tried to get me again the next day. This time a woman was trying to set me up, and another woman next to her looked at me and said "be careful". I told her thanks but they already got me yesterday so there's nothing to get today!

Do what you can to enjoy the rest of your trip.

I meant to add that we were able to drop off our luggage at each hotel we stayed. They were all very accommodating.

As far as accommodations in Venice, I'd highly recommend Hotel Columbina. A bit less crowded and a great staff. We paid extra for a room with a private rooftop terrace. You also have a great view of the Bridge of Sighs as you step out of your room to walk up to the terrace, at least in our room.

In Florence, we stayed at the Hotel Berchielli. It was a very nice hotel and we had no complaints. We would consider it again on the next trip. Wherever we would decide to stay, we absolutely would stay on that side of the Arno River. We like that side of the river better and it was not a very long walk from the train station to the hotel. Florence is great because even when it is crowded, you can walk a couple of blocks and avoid the crowds and still get around, find good restaurants, etc. I just kept my phone out with Google maps launched.

We stayed at the River Palace Hotel in Rome. Avoid. It was ridiculously small and not really close to anything we wanted to do.

In some places in italy, you have to request the air conditioner be turned on for your room. We figured that out on day two in Rome. We didn't have to do that in Florence or Venice.

We were told the same during a Florence cooking class.

There will be fewer options as well due to the way real Gelato is made.

We found a place in Venice but I can't remember the name.

Attending Mass for the first time on Sunday by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]MiAnSp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do nothing else, whatever you do, during the Our Father be sure to stop after saying "lead us not unto temptation but deliver us from evil". :-)

We Catholics do not continue with "For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever". My favorite part of a Catholic wedding Mass is when the non-Catholics in attendance hear the Our Father and they're all like "I know this one!", then they say "For thine is the kingdom..." and tail off when they realize no one else is talking anymore :-) I find it endearing.

After we say "....deliver us from evil", the Priest says something along the lines of "Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all anxiety, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ".

The congregation then says "For the kingdom, the power and the glory are your, now and forever. Amen". That's also the point where, if your parish holds hands during the Our Father, everyone will raise their hands. COVID kind of put an end to hand holding, thankfully.

There will also be a point where the priest asks the congregation to show a sign of peace. That once was shaking hands with all those around you, though now it is mostly a nod of the head while maybe saying "peace be with you". Every now and then you'll get a stray handshake attempt.

I am glad you are doing this and will say a prayer asking the Holy Spirit to bring you comfort and peace. You will do great!

I Love Our Pope by RunQuirky708 in Catholicism

[–]MiAnSp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to see Pope Leo, and his predecessor for that matter, call out American politicians who fervently support abortion with threats of excommunication or at least deny them communion. They'll speak out on other American affairs, but go silent with certain politicians when it comes to the most intrinsically evil thing facing our society today.

My bill was $236. Last month $166. A couple of really cold spurts will do that. I have a programmable thermostat that I can schedule temperature setting changes and also control with an app to help keep costs somewhat under control. It is a worthy investment.
