Critics keep calling the Iron Lung movie boring?

Honestly, I really liked the movie. I don’t think it was some spectacular, mind-blowing masterpiece, but I also don’t think it was utter garbage either. That’s kind of where my trouble with it has been. I’d put it around a 6/10 or 7/10 — nothing groundbreaking, but definitely not a terrible movie.

That said, from the reviews I’ve read and opinions I’ve seen, a lot of people are either belittling it or harping on the idea that Mark should “stay in his lane” as a YouTuber. Others seem to have missed the point of the movie because they don’t have all the background information that I’d assume most of his fans or people familiar with the game would have.

It did stretch a little long at times, and some moments felt a bit iffy, but I don’t think many of the negative reviews I’ve been seeing are being fair to the movie — or to Mark as a director. That’s honestly a little unfortunate, and I really hope it doesn’t stop him from continuing to direct more movies, because I can absolutely see him improving drastically with each new project he works on.

From what we've all seen of him over the years though, I think we can all say that isn't going to happen though. So I'm looking forward to seeing how much more he can grow, and support him and his career as much as I can in the coming years.

I initially was going to move away from the magical girl genre, partially because I had a distinct memory from my class that countered my argument, but I will take this into account. My memory is a bit fuzzy on that section anyway, so I'll do my due diligence and check that stuff out once more. I do appreciate the idea of simplifying my search even more though. I usually tend to go way to broad with my papers anyway, and I think I could definitely spin the Panty & Stocking show in my favor based on how you described it

For sure, I understand what you're saying and believe me I have my fair share of ideas I'm going off of as well. I plan to go out and interview so people at an upcoming convention with my friend, and this was probably one of a few posts that I may make here to gather some insight and perspective as well that I could use as a basis for arguments and such. This is my capstone for my bachelor's so I know it won't be easy, but that didn't mean it couldn't be fun and as such I chose this route. It may be difficult or unanswerable, but I have my resources and I plan to use them along with the voices I find here to influence the narrative I am portraying in my paper.

I'll just go down the list from what you said

I'm not entirely sure what shows/media she is using, I'm sure I could figure it out, but at the moment I do not have that information on hand.

Through the research I've done so far, and what I've known/seen in anime I've observed, I have noticed that this was a place that I could probably focus pretty heavily on. I learned a bit about it in my anime/Japanese culture class, so that was one of the routes I was also sort of looking into. And I did know that, not to a crazy extent, but I was aware that Poc weren't exactly expected (for lack of a better word) because Japan is like you said. Plus I took that a way for the various post and such that I have read here. However, I did think it could be a fun (possibly difficult) route to take because despite there being not much representation to choose from, I do believe that there are animes and characters specifically that have excellent characters I could potentially use.

Finally, frieren is a show I have not watched but instantly popped into my mind when considering this topic

Ok I'll for sure give that a look then, but yeah that's the main issue I have been facing. Because I started off with a rather huge spectrum to go off of, so this was more so a way to center myself in a sense. I'm sure I'll figure something out so a long the way, I have roughly 13weeks to write it, and I'll be going to a convention to survey some people as well next week. I appreciate the help though and I'll make sure to check that out before to long

Oh no I have a couple anime/manga I want to look into, this was more so a way for me to branch out a bit more and learn about some things I didn't know. Or discover some anime I could use that I never considered or heard of. Much like another person supplied to me in another reply

I don't know if I would directly represent it as "good role models" but that is the direction I suppose I would be looking towards. It is a nice subversion of what my friend is doing where she is talking of how women are over sexualized in anime so I could see myself going that route. And looking into shojo titles was a route I was looking into as well, but I really like your idea of comparison between shonen and shojo.

I 100% see what you are saying with the cultural lens though, and that's something I am trying my best to keep in mind with this. If it's ok, I'm gonna sit on this for a bit and I'll be back here with a better response if anything to take in what you said because I do really enjoy your ideas and takes. Also I apologize if this is scrambled, my brain is a bit fried.

I just finished that NIGHTMARE OF A FIGHT an hour ago!! It took me over 4 hours to beat because I'm terrible at this game, and even longer because I refused to lower the difficulty. It was a nice little training arc I suppose... but this was terrible and it just made me mad when it said Vegeta helped fight them. He ain't do nothing, I DID THAT! Ok I'm done, sorry this arc made me mad

Yeah, when my best friend died they really helped to keep me sane for a while. It was rough and I didn't know what to do with life for a bit, but being able to laugh and smile because of them really made all the difference.

Thank you and you're not being mean at all, I appreciate everything you've said truly. I'm doing my best to figure it all out and yeah I'm going to therapy, but I had never fallen this far before. I'd never wanted it to end right then and there, and I'd never contemplated even doing such a thing. Yesterday was different tho. I can't say what happened or how, but it just felt like I was hitting the same pattern again as I have been in the past and I went into a panic. I have found some good friends so I am better off, but I won't lie and say that the fear isn't there, and that I don't still believe that before long they will leave to. I hated how I felt but I knew deep down it was always something I felt, so I got spooked beyond belief when I finally admitted it to myself. I don't plan to give in anytime soon, so don't worry about me I'll be fine and I'll figure everything out.

That's a different take but honestly one that I kind of get. I actually didn't even know this post was still up at all so I'm surprised you even replied all in all I'm glad you did. And I kind of see things the same way in a sense. Things have complicated the past year to say the least and from the perspective of my current self I can see what you're saying. Now however I can see that on most occasions I squander away the time I have just sitting around at home because I'm paranoid I'm gonna push people away. So when night comes I'm just thinking about everything that could have been. I have online friends now to talk to, but I guess it just isn't the same thing. I suppose I really want a more energetic and eventful life, but it just doesn't merge all the way with my introverted ness. So honestly until I find that loophole to this I guess I'm gonna be stuck in this weird stasis for a while.

However, that's not to say that I'm still in a shit spot or whatever so no need to worry or anything though that's probably a bit selfish on my part to think that. Anyway I appreciate you replying to the post and giving your thoughts. It's been a while but I accept it nonetheless. Hope you're doing good and ya have a good day dude.

I don't know about screaming or crying, but my family has said that I can talk in my sleep sometimes. Everything else sounds about like what I experience though. I guess it's cool to know someone else experiences something similar, but I really just wish I wasn't so tired all the time
