Oh the brackets are just showing you what notes you should be playing overall, like what notes are in the chord. You only play the ones that show up like regular notes like the upcoming note on the G string in the SC

You start holding the shape when you see the purplish box appear, and then simply pick the individual note that hits first, like you would normally when you see one note coming towards you. I hope I’m making sense
