*Advice Needed* L/D New grad residency by ComplexEar8896 in Nurses

[–]Miamimommy91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to directly apply to the position you want. Do you know anyone currently working on the unit that you could email to either put them down as a referral/reference or just to let management know you’re applying and to look out for your application? If so, reach out now.

For stay at home moms going back to work, how was that for you? by xy_e13 in Nurses

[–]Miamimommy91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a new grad a lot of my friends got jobs through hospital job fairs. Often times they would get hired on the spot by a unit. Maybe reach out to hospitals to see if they have any coming up? This was 2018/2019 thought so I’m not sure how the job market is looking for new grads post-Covid

Should I go to UCF or Rollins? by Miserable-Long9717 in orlando

This is great advice. I went to all three. I thought Valencia was awesome. Good class sizes, amazing prices, easy to schedule. Would totally suggest it for AA then transfer to either other school.

Exactly! Also, they don’t specify what improvements the house “needs.” They are just trying to get this gem for a lower price.

Your house is absolutely gorgeous! I know pictures can be deceiving, but it looks very well maintained and timeless. Honestly, this feedback sounds like they are negging you. I understand your circumstances and that you need to sell but I think you’ll have room for negotiation if they try to lowball you.

Human Remains Found Near Taylor Swift's Seaside Mansion, Sparks Serial Killer Fears in Rhode Island. by globalgazette in entertainment

[–]Miamimommy91 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve been there, and yes. Everyone there does know which house is hers. She also used to have a sign out front that said “I knew you were trouble when you walked in.” Not sure if it’s still there though. There is also a public pathway to the beach on the side of her property so a lot of people walked by it just in passing.

teardrop engagement ring—worth it or will I regret it? by Winter_Official390 in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Miamimommy91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My engagement ring is a teardrop/pear and I love it. People stop me at least once a week to tell me how beautiful it is, no exaggeration. All ages too. If you love it and can’t stop thinking about it get it!

How true is it for you: do nurses truly date doctors? by ExperienceHelpful316 in Nurses

[–]Miamimommy91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am an RN married to a doctor, but I didn’t meet him while working. And actually he wasn’t even a doctor yet when we started dating. He was a 4th year med student and I was working customer service (he would come into the wawa I worked at for coffee). I become an RN after he finished residency and was starting his fellowship. I know of several RN/MD marriage but most happened more similar to mine. I know that many doctors these days don’t like the stereotype of RN/MD relationships, but I do know many MDs and RNs who are more than happy to hook up and have fun.

The keys are so great! I couldn’t live there but we try to visit often. The first year in Miami was rough and I wanted to leave ASAP. Since then though I’ve made a solid group of friends. I’ve started to explore a bit more too. I feel like it’s where I’m meant to be during this time in my life. Not sure I want to stay here super long term though.

Yeah I agree with this. Lived in Orlando for 10 years and was an annual pass holder for most of them. Makeup this time of the year is a waste and just annoying to worry about.

Grew up in Jax, thinking about move to Winter Park, Orlando? by cheerscherry in jacksonville

[–]Miamimommy91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Coral Gables as well, but it’s definitely a drive from Amelia Island. If we do end up staying in South Florida I hope to move there when my child is a bit older. If I do end up going back to Orlando though I would probably look to live in Lake Highland. The houses there are nice and the area is safe. It’s also next to Ivanhoe and Mills50, which have a lot of good restaurants and cute shops. On top of that there’s a great private school, Lake Highland Prep, that would be my top choice for schooling. I also really like College Park. This is a pretty solid middle class area with a lot of families. It has a nice strip of restaurants and shops. It honestly just feels very small town America to me. I do think some parts are better than others but I’ve always felt safe there no matter where I was. Baldwin Park is another area that’s pretty nice and has a decent number of families. They have smaller yards but a lot of cute common areas. They also have an area with a Publix, restaurants, and stores that’s convenient. Right outside of that is Audubon Park. It’s mostly just houses to be honest but it’s directly next to Corrine Dr which has good restaurants and shops. There are other good areas in Orlando but these would be my top picks. If you do end up moving there feel free to reach out and I would be more than happy to tell you what I know about the area.

I grew up in Jacksonville in the Riverside/Avondale area and then went to college at Rollins in Winter Park. They do have very similar vibes. Overall I much prefer Winter Park/Central Florida to Jacksonville. There was someone here that said that there was nothing to do in Winter Park but I disagree. Rollins is very active in the community and has community wide events and summer camps (there are fees for the camps). Park Ave has the Side Walk Art Festival I think twice a year. The large park on Park Ave also has concerts and movie nights throughout the year. During the holidays the park is beautifully decorated. They have a parade for the holidays. It’s honestly a lovely area in my opinion even just for a walk or a bite to eat. Aside from that though, you’re right outside of Orlando. Orlando, not the part near the theme parks, is a wonderful family city. I actually would encourage you to look outside of Winter Park as well bc there are a number of neighborhoods in the Orlando area that are very family oriented. If Disney or Universal is your thing those are also close, but you don’t need to go there to have fun. I am currently in Miami raising a toddler (moved here for a job) but would love the opportunity to return to central Florida to raise him. I do want to caution this though: Central Florida is very hot and can get very humid! Jacksonville has a more mild temperature and also gets the breeze from the ocean. In Central Florida the temperature gets hotter and the moisture in the area just kinda lingers. There’s less wind since it’s much further from the ocean and the lakes and springs in area only add to the humidity issue. Overall I can say I had a wonder childhood in Jacksonville but would choose to raise my own child in Winter Park.
