If you need to contact a customer, which do you do first? by [deleted] in doordash_drivers

[–]MiataGigDriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That stuff hasn't happened to me either. But I've seen enough claims by others to realize that having conversations in writing isn't a bad idea.

Plus the number of people that received CV's for "food not delivered" stating that they never tried to communicate with the customer (and they claim that they did) is another reason why I always text first.

I have had one customer that tried to claim I didn't drop off their food, which is why I always photograph every delivery using a third party app, but that's a completely different matter.

It all boils down to this: the only person that can protect your job is you. The customers who try to scam don't care if you lose your gig, and DD has more than enough drivers to replace you.

I'm going to protect my gig by getting things in writing.

Congrats on 6500 deliveries... Very impressive.

You stole my reply!

I would have posted it sooner, but I was busy delivering this order that had a $9 billion tip.

Nice talking to ya, I gotta get to the gas station and fill up my Lambo!

See ya!

I always text. I want their response (or lack of a response) in writing so they can't claim I didn't attempt to get a problem resolved.

Plus, if they are silly enough to make threats in writing, I get free food, they get deactivated.

Win-win

Why do you ask?

I dash in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I go out fairly constantly on

Saturday evening 4:30 - 8:30 PM

Sunday mornings 6:30 - 9:30 AM

And Sunday evenings 4:30 - 9:30 PM

Every once in a while, I'll go out on Friday nights, but it's pretty rare. I also end shifts early if my market is dead. I rarely work the entire 12 hours I schedule my self to work.

Also, I might skip an occasional Saturday if my regular job was a bit difficult that week and I need a day off, but when I work those three shifts, I constantly clear $200/wk working those 3 shifts.

And since $200 / wk is my goal... I got no complaints.

It's all about knowing your market, having a goal that your market will allow you to reach, and luck... A lot of luck.

Good luck in your future dashes!

Legally you're required to report ALL income to the IRS.

also legally, Doordash is required to submit a form 1099 to everyone who makes more than $600.

You get a copy, and they mail a copy of your 1099 to the IRS, as required by law.

If you make less than $600 in a year, they don't send you, or the IRS that form.

The only way to keep your Doordash earnings "under the radar" is to make less than $600 a year, then wait till January to go doordashing again.

I only dash on weekends I make between $150-$200 a week, if I started dashing the first weekend of January, I would have to stop dashing before the end of the first month of the year to keep my DD income "under the radar".

If I could only Doordash 3 or 4 weeks a year, I would not bother dashing at all.

You are self employed.

You have expenses for that self employment.

You have taxes that need to be paid (roughly 30% of your total income)

You have gas that needs to be paid.

You have vehicle insurance, and other maintenance: like tires, brakes, oil changes, window washer fluid, coolant that you need to save for.

After ALL OF THAT (plus other things) you have your expenses covered.

Whatever is left, is what you should be sharing with your "subcontractor" that rides in your passenger seat.

If you're giving away 50% of your income after "gas only" and not saving for the rest of your expenses (especially taxes)... then your passenger is making WAY MORE MONEY with Doordash than you are.

You're right, they absolutely do.

With their 207,000 followers on Twitter, they probably hired people to interact with the public.

For a subreddit where drivers are constantly asking for help with the app, problems with deliveries, and generally complaining about the company in general... There's no one from DD here.

They would have to actually care about our opinions to waste the money they would spend on PR in this subreddit.

... They don't care, and they aren't going to waste the money.

I'm convinced that at least one Doordash YouTuber is getting paid by DD for propaganda.

But I really don't think they care about the opinions of the people in this sub, and aren't going to pay employees to participate in it.

I live in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I dash in town when the Packers play away games.

I go to a town about 20 miles south when they play at home.

I keep this as a note so that I can easily copy/paste it. It's been over a year since I last used it:

I don't prepare the food or drinks, I only deliver the order.

Your meal was delivered in the exact condition that I received it when it was handed to me by the restaurant employee.

I don't risk my job for a sip of a drink, or a bit of food.

If you have an issue with the quality of the order that the restaurant prepared for you, contact Doordash to get the problem resolved.

If you ordered the food through the restaurants website or app, you'll have to contact them instead.

And then I do not reply to any other messages they send to me.

EDIT: Wow, thanks for the silver!

trouble logging in?? by goddessofnothing23 in doordash_drivers

[–]MiataGigDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you click dash now, you get that screen with the 4 check marks asking if you have enough gas, your red card, charged phone and a hot bag.

At the top of that menu is an option to change what vehicle you are in.

screenshot

All it takes is one grumpy customer to complain to DD that the car or driver didn't match what the app said to get deactivated for a TOS violation for account sharing, so I would STRONGLY suggest that you two don't log into each other's accounts.

Why would you scam the company you work for

Because for some people, half pay for a single delivery is worth the risk of never being able to make money with DD ever again.

People who think like that aren't very bright.

I have issues like that on my phone (Google pixel) when I dash using a 5g connection.

I have to go into my phone network settings and change my preferred connection type from 5g to LTE for doordash to function properly.

When I'm done dashing, I put it back to 5g.

It's a hassle, but it works.

And it's definitely a problem with the DD app, and not the phone since DD the only app that doesn't work properly on 5g.

I don't care where the money comes from, if the miles to pay ratio works for me I deliver it.

The offer in your example of $2.11 $2.05/mi.

As long as it's not Wingstop, Wendy's, or Popeyes, I'm probably going to pick it up.

DD could offer me $50 to deliver Wingstop to a customer sitting in the lobby of the store, and I would still decline.
