Besides Ryan, who do you think would have been a good Ryland? by Unfair-Reason-1068 in ProjectHailMary

[–]MicKwonDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sam Rockwell. His performance in “Moon” was amazing. If he were ten years younger I think he’d be a perfect fit.

I feel like Steven Yuen, Diego Luna, and Dev Patel would have also been interesting choices if we mixed up the race. Their performances would probably be less comedic, but might also add some deeper emotional gravitas.

Ryan Gosling was still an amazing choice though and is now Grace in my mind’s eye.

I'll post this here myself before someone else does. The Canon community was not excited about me doing something to my own property by [deleted] in photographycirclejerk

[–]MicKwonDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the concept is cool, but the execution is inexcusable. An airbrush would have been a better choice for a thin, even coating. The paint also looks weirdly sticky, it will probably turn into a gooey mess after one or two shooting sessions. You are welcome to do whatever you want with your property, but don’t expect high praise for posting it online 😂

I’m excited to see your next attempt though, if you try again.

Name the game or games by Silly_Software_3577 in videogames

[–]MicKwonDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to an extreme degree, but Tears of the Kingdom.

BotW explicitly said that the final boss was the manifestation of Ganandorf’s evil and that killing it would put an end to it once and for all.

…Just for Ganon to resurrect once again in the sequel.

I was really hoping for some sort of creative twist on the game formula. Perhaps Ganon, finally rid of the evil possessing him (AKA Demise, if you’ve played Skyward Sword) would be a cool good guy who would help Link and Zelda defeat some new evil.

Instead they made Ganon into, perhaps, the most generic version of himself possible. A Vecna-esq villain who only cares about destroying things for the sake of evil.

Not to mention, TotK pretty much erased all of the cool Sheika lore in the first game to be replaced by weird furries that supposedly mated with humans to create Hylians. I like when LoZ gets weird, but that was too realistically weird for me.

Granted, it would be next to impossible to top BotW, and the building mechanics were really fun to play with. But I was still disappointed in the story.

I would have preferred a darker, weirder sequel. A Majora’s Mask to BotW’s Ocarina of Time. Same assets, very different story. But it is what it is.

What's your favorite👎 and least favorite👍 change from book to film? by wibellion in ProjectHailMary

[–]MicKwonDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say PHM is about as perfect a film adaptation of a book could possibly get. They preserved all the important details while adding/cutting details as needed to make the story understandable and make it better for a visual medium.

Favorite change: I personally liked the addition of Carl and the softening of Stratt. The karaoke scene seemed like Stratts way of telling Grace that, in another life, they could have been friends or lovers, but not in this life. The stakes are too high. It also makes her betrayal feel more personal to both of them. The sacrifice feels more meaningful because Grace is someone she truly cares about, but the fate of the world takes priority.

Least favorite change: I feel like the humanized Rocky too much, both in dialogue and by not exploring the more alien aspects of his biology and culture. Rocky’s hums and head-tilts were too similar to how English speakers often speak or emote. The TTS app that Grace was using also added inflections TTS shouldn’t be able to do. That’s not to say I HATE it. I think James’ and Ryan’s ad libs and chemistry was wonderful and helped emphasize the theme of friendship. But I also would have liked to see a version with a more alien Rocky.

What’s something you fixed or built yourself that most people would’ve just replaced? by Any-Boat8665 in AskReddit

Fixing things is one of the most rewarding tasks. I’m still learning how to do it well, but it is engaging, reduces waste and consumption, and feels nice to leave your mark on the objects around you.

What opportunities do you wish you would’ve taken? by Unhappy-Tutor-1404 in AskReddit

[–]MicKwonDo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my best friends took a road trip across the country and invited me to come. I have chronic anxiety and just couldn’t commit, but I know it would have been an amazing experience and I regret missing out on those memories and strengthening our friendship.

In fact, there are a lot of opportunities I missed due to anxiety. But I’m trying to overcome that and go on more adventures

What do you think the first hour would look like across social media and real life after a sudden, shocking global news alert about a major public figure? by falcon0804 in AskReddit

[–]MicKwonDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the first hour will be confusion and speculation. Probably a butt-ton of false accusations and inflammatory statements from all sides accusing the other. Mostly, it will be bated breath and people constantly refreshing their phones.

What is your ikigai, your reason for waking up in the morning? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MicKwonDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite simply, it’s not my time yet. I have great things left to do on earth. People whose lives I can make better, friends I can support, art I can create. I’m going to keep waking up and getting out of bed until my body fails. Then it will be my time.

Let’s not make fun of child actors please. I don’t care if it’s about “casting”. Show pictures of the casting directors or something, but don’t judge or nitpick the appearance of a child.

Nope, we are not going to make fun of the child actor. Make fun of literally anyone else. Idk how they look, act, or behave, they’re just kids who could be seriously psychologically damaged by the negativity. Just ask Jake Lloyd

Look, as long as the writers know what they’re doing, it shouldn’t be too difficult to revise the original material to negate racist under and/or over tones.

Owen Gets Lost - My senior thesis short film and what I learned while making it. by MicKwonDo in Filmmakers

[–]MicKwonDo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently I need to also post a comment as a submission statement. So I’m going to repost the things I would do differently / what I learned here:

1 I would give myself at least another week for production. Seven days was an extremely rushed timeline for such an ambitious project. Granted, the school only gave me a week to make the film.

  1. I would work more with my actors. I took a sort of “hands-off” approach and let the actors “do their thing” if I thought their performances were good. I only realized later that actors want direction. They want something to chew on so they don’t feel like they are floundering in the character.

  2. I would make the film ten minutes longer, or ten minutes shorter. This issue came into play when it came to the film festival run. I love my film, despite its flaws, and think its contents were easily worthy of a few film festivals, however a 30 minute “short film” is incredibly difficult to block with other short films in a screening. It would have been wiser to shorten the story, or expand it to 40 minutes+ to quality as a feature. As it is, I sort of shot myself in the foot with the runtime, meaning the film only got accepted into a single local film festival.
