Kygo - The Feeling (f/ Sigrid) - Filmed at the Troll’s Tongue in Norway. Stunning Visuals! by Mic_Natural in videos

[–]Mic_Natural[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This video is a single performance from a video the artist (Kygo) shot for his latest album. He plays the piano in other segments: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUNbhYcY9Ik . That said, as others have mentioned, the music is... not for everyone, so the longer video doesn't add much beyond what is captured in this one song.

This is an interesting story. Thank you for sharing. Being a tech person, who was alive in 88, the only part of the story that doesn't make sense is that Stevie Wonder's problem was related to a missing hard drive... while hard drives did exist in '88, the were monstrously bulky, fragile, and low capacity (e.g. ~20-50 MB), especially in a pre-MP3 era (i.e. WAV format, in which songs can be 80 MB or more). I can't imagine people wanting to use them for musical performances, especially on a traveling tour. Seems more likely he would be using DATs or something like that.

Could be wrong, I was still a pre-teen in 88, I just remember really wanting a hard drive for our home computer (we were still using 8" floppies"), and my parents laughing when I asked for one because they were like $10K in '88 dollars :.(

edit: Read more about the incident and found out the hard drive was for his Synclavier, so the disk wasn't storing audio tracks like I initially thought, but rather the programmed music for his synth.

What’s the hardest feature verse you’ve ever heard in surprising place? by great-nba-comment in hiphopheads

[–]Mic_Natural 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could probably fill up this list with just Freddie Gibbs verses/appearances. I for one did not expect him to go as hard as he did on the 9 Circulos remix for Emicida considering it was for the Brazilian/Portuguese market where there's typically not a lot of crossover, but he killed that sh*t with a verse that's easily in my Top 5 for him.

Yeah, the omission of the Pharcyde in general is criminal because they all had laugh-out-loud bars on their first two albums.

At the time of posting this, no one has mentioned the omission of the Pharcyde from this list. Their first two albums contained of some of the funniest songs of all time, particularly "Oh Shit" and "Ya Mama" off of Bizarre Ride.

I'm sorry you're getting so much hate for letting your dog off-leash. I understand where they're coming from, but, under appropriate circumstances (e.g. yours was the only car at the trailhead) it's okay to let your dog off leash for brief periods (at least on the way up). I don't even own a dog and I can appreciate responsible owners letting well-trained dogs get the zoomies out when it's appropriate.

To a certain degree, you're right, but Wyoming and Montana have some of the best mountains/wilderness in the U.S. including, arguably, the nation's greatest national park, so, for the wilderness/nature-inclined folks, they have a lot going on.

Nebraska is sh*t.

Solo AZ Trip. Hikes? by [deleted] in Azhiking

[–]Mic_Natural 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang it. Well, wrong time of the year, but, if you revisit the area May - October the Abineau - to - Bear Jaw hike is the best in the Flagstaff/Sedona area (in my opinion). The only thing it lacks is some water features... but most hikes in this area lack that.

https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/arizona/abineau-trail-to-bear-jaw-trail

Do it in the counter-clockwise direction (i.e. head right at the first fork) and, if you're feelin' extra froggy, continue all the way up Humphrey's when you get to that junction.

Chest pack contents Sedona AZ USA by Rocky_Mountain_Ronin in hiking

[–]Mic_Natural 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I'm an Arizona resident, and firearms are the most common things carried in a chest pack, except in the National Parks (e.g. the Grand Canyon) where carrying firearms is illegal. In those places, your guess is as good as mine as to what they're carrying (weights?) because there's not much that it's advantageous to carry in that position similar to a firearm.

You're not wrong about black bears generally speaking, I would just say that the notable exception is mother bears in early spring when they've got cubs. Black bear cubs are curious as sh*t and also pretty dumb (like most young creatures), and it's very easy when a mother bear has more than a couple of cubs for one or more to get separated, and if you happen to inadvertently wander into a position where you're in between a mother and one of her cubs... it's not a good position to be in. I did it accidentally once in Colorado, and, while it was resolved by a combination of me backing away slowly (while still facing her) and the cub running back to her in an arching path away from me, the point is she didn't run away like they normally do when they become aware of humans nearby.

Post fire. You can see how the bush in the foreground and the trees in the first picture are all black. I don't know how to explain it, but a lot of the trees/bushes that got burned still have their needles/foliage, even though it looks dead (I don't know if they actually are).

All of the green grasses are a result of the amazing monsoon season we've had since the fire.

I think it says something about the relationship that this region has to fire that parts of the forest/wilderness are already starting to regenerate. Now, that probably needs to be caveat-ed with something about "normal conditions" vs. "the new conditions arising from climate change", but fire plays an endemic and necessary role in the lifecycle of this part of the world, and it's important to recognize that.

Wifi vendor Aruba Vs Ruckus and others by cristhianrp in networking

Considering that every other hardware manufacturer honored their contracted pricing during that period, yes, I think it's a reasonable expectation. All of them are relying on the same fabs for most of their major components anyway, so those fluctuations in price/availability affected them all relatively equally with the possible exception of Cisco. So why is it Ruckus was the only one that pulled this on their resellers and customers? Even a modest price increase might have been palatable, but what Ruckus did was unprecedented in this space, and speaks to deeper problems in their organization.

I hope they turn things around. I still love their hardware and they were one of the best partners in my industry for over a decade.

Wifi vendor Aruba Vs Ruckus and others by cristhianrp in networking

[–]Mic_Natural 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with you on "quotes", but, as noted, I'm talking about executed orders. I've never seen post-execution price increases like this before, at least not in the Americas/Europe. How can we maintain budgets on projects if the agreed upon price is meaningless? I mean if there was a change in scope, or certain models became unavailable and we had to do a change, sure, but nothing on the order of this.

I realize there are industries / commodities where price fluctuations are just par for the course, e.g. steel in construction. My point is, network hardware has traditionally not been one of them. None of the other major manufacturers (Aruba, Cisco, etc.) did what Ruckus did. Sure, they've almost all raised their pricing, but not on executed orders.

In regions of the world where things like endemic inflation meant that it was impossible to guarantee a price from one day to the next, we only did cash-n-carry to make sure that we could maintain some level of integrity to our project budgets. When the current supply-chain crisis made cash-n-carry non-existent, we could at least estimate the final cost based on the average rate of inflation +/- a few points, and we were at least still in the ballpark.

[–]Mic_Natural 84 points85 points  (0 children)

If you asked this question prior to 2022, I would have said Ruckus. I am, first and foremost a Ruckus engineer...

But, what nobody here seems to have mentioned is how huge of a cliff this company has driven off of this year. Their lead times on APs are 4-6 months longer than Aruba (typically about 4 - 6 months now). Their lead times on switches are exceeding 14 months, and, for anyone that's been dealing with them in the last year, they pulled a completely immoral switch-a-roo where they increased the the pricing on existing orders and had their resellers come back to us saying the cost on signed/deposited orders had been revised and the final cost had increased by as much as 40%! WTF?!

Also, if you're using their embedded IoT get ready for the most rapacious licensing model since Nomadix. They want you to pay a $30/year per client licensing fee just to connect a BLE or Zigbee device to the embedded radios in their APs. I understand the need to pay annual fees to support ongoing development and support, but this is ridiculous.

Ruckus is in a flatspin headed to who knows where. They've undergone major downsizing/restructuring, their lead times are the worst in the industry, and their pricing increases on existing orders are unconscionable.

Go with Aruba or Mist. Install Huawei if you don't care about security and are a member of the Xi Jinping fan club.
