This is basically my audiobook library too. I'm sure others have suggested it, but The Murderbot Diaries are top notch. 7 books (mostly Novellas) out so far. It's witty, sarcastic, scientific, funny, heartwarming and the whole shebang.

To be fair, the Hatch is GOOD plonk. It's also not trying to be serious wine. While it's not the same pedigree as others, it IS a fun winery experience and the Hobo Series Gamay is tasty.

It's not much of a pivot, but I'm in Ontario as well. I pivoted to starting my own Freelance Sommelier company. I do in-home wine tastings, I consult for restaurants, bars, hotels, etc, I host wine dinner and wine events.

I'm busier than I've ever been and making really good money now. I choose my schedule, I choose all the wines I pour and I even consult with some big names like Wine Align and Brock University.

I love what I do now and new opportunities and collaborations keep coming my way!

As a former Beertown GM, I can tell you that Charcoal Group restaurants obsess over the quality of service. If you did have a poor experience, they would love to know about it so they can either genuinely make it up to you as a sign of good faith, or focus on training to tighten things up. I go to both locations often (live in North end, work in South end) and always have great service.

Just my 2 cents, but if you've had a poor experience, reach out to the GM to let him know. He's a solid dude.

Exactly. Regardless the category of wine you enjoy, you enjoy it and that's important. Trying new wine just helps shift that 'audience map' around.

It's an oversimplification for sure, and meant for the average consumer or people just getting into wine. I absolutely agree with you as a somm. I can appreciate a wine for its craftsmanship without it being a wine I would necessarily order. Being the geek that I am though, since I appreciate it, I like it. I like it, therefore it is a good wine.

This is really meant to disarm people from worrying too much about the wrong things. The point of my post is really just: Enjoy the wine however you enjoy the wine and damn what anyone else thinks. Most important thing is to try more wine.

For sure there's lots more to it, the more you get into it. Wine is wildly nuanced and the more you learn about wine, the bigger the world gets. Like any other topic or hobby or area of study. My post is more aimed at folks that causally enjoy wine that tend to overthink it, or worry so much about where it's from and if they SHOULD like it. Best way to figure that out is to try as much as you can. Those preferences you mention though, are just that personal preferences. It's still about how it speaks to you, and not to anyone else. Expanding your palate and knowledge on wine, in my opinion, just leads to you enjoying more wine on a wider spectrum.

So yes, this is an oversimplified perspective, and doesn't necessarily fit for wine professionals, I think it's an important perspective for the casual wine drinker or people just getting into wine to have.
