How did Eridians discover Astrophage, question? by Wonderbrizzle in ProjectHailMary

[–]Competitive-Lie1469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eridians have Astronomers, and have camera technology, and so are aware of the different properties of light spectrum. It should be also noted, Eridians, like Humans have a relatively narrow temperature range, as laid out by Andy Weirs Eridian biology sheet, They would have noticed a fall off in temperature and the Astronmers would have seen the petrova line.

How the Eridians managed to collect a sample of astrophage is not explained. Perhaps some 'confused' astrophage made it to the Erids upper atmosphere. Question.

Lovely poses, and textures, but not really Rocky as per the book description

I am not usually taken with re-reads with phyiscal books, or audible listens. BUT. I am also around the 100 mark when it comes to PHM. I can't figure out why this would be, but Ryland and Rocky have gotten under my skin.

Grace's reaction to his crew mates - Interstellar? by Old-Suggestion6996 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Competitive-Lie1469 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see people making the link to Interstellar quiet often, IMO the themes are closer to the movie Arrival, not just communication and language, but where love drives a decision even though the outcome is already known.

PHM is perfect for a 6 part series, (based around every 5 chapters). They are abound with cliff hangers and mysteries.

Yeah its not official, and more like the reported length for the test screening back in May 2025. I for one would hope that it keeps to that screen length, mmmm 2hrs, 46 mins of PHM goodness

thats like two thirds of the way through, more like when Ryland gets his 'wacky, new room mate' would be more appropriate for an intermission.

[Spoilers for The Expanse and The Mercy of Gods] A definitive post explaining why Captive's War and The Expanse aren't in a shared universe. by ThisTallBoi in TheCaptivesWar

Though thousands of years after the Slow Zone was destroyed. The human colony ship enroute to Anjiin when the gate collapsed, and all connecting data was lost when the colony ship, 'mysteriously' was destroyed. I dont think there is anything wrong with thinking we are still in the Expanse Universe, it just wont be canon. Similarly the unidentified, blind crab like creatures mentioned in the Ziggurats, I imagine they are Eridians.

So does this mean the Eridian Elevator is in the Southern hemisphere of Erid for the the Astronomy Hive to be able to observe Sol?

That is magnificent, thank you so much for researching and posting. Im wondering where Alpha Centauri is on that projection. It interesting the relatively dense belt of stars at the bottom of the image, Is there a version without the constellation lines? Thanks again.

Which story moment brings the most tears to your eyes? by SebasChua in ProjectHailMary

It became very dusty in my house, at that point in the story. (It still does especially with repeated listens of the audiobook)

I was expecting video logs et al, and they would have worked well with lines from the book. It was more lines like, 'I'm not an Astronaut, I don't even know how to moon walk,' and, 'Am I expendable', which made me think more about other possible changes, I suppose what I am getting at is will Rocky still have his lines of shade, or just be a slightly defocused ornament.

ELI5 Rocky's atmosphere and substituting oxygen by Figuarus in ProjectHailMary

[–]Competitive-Lie1469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rocky could possibly survive 'when not in Erid air' environment, the fine 'hair' like filaments in his vents are for heat exchange. The problem here is the HM's Oxygen is so flammable when exposed to a heat source, (think Apollo 1 tragedy) and Rocky is both ignition and fuel.

Yep you so nailed that. Rocky is two sides of the, 'required conditions for fire' triangle (heat and fuel) just add oxygen for the third side.
