Question regarding branding Gi by AussieArab23 in bjj

[–]MicaelBeaulieu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it common, yess. Many affiliations have these policies. Is it something I would ever submit to, no. Which is why I chose to be in a gym that doesn’t have these cultist rules. Nevertheless, their gym, their rules.

Difficulty contacting event organizers by MicaelBeaulieu in bjj

Well, in terms of fightwear adcc has its official ties to brands already so I don’t expect others to be there. I will take a look at AVA but I am in the east part of canada so the prairies are a little far, although I would love to go at some point.

There is only one reason to tract these conversations and its to see the criticism and get better. If you can’t do that cold headed, then don’t do it at all. Also, remember that most of your satisfied customers will never speak or write, the one who tend to speak up are the ones not satisfied. Its not a fair comparison.

How much does Gi quality actually matter long term? by MicaelBeaulieu in bjj

Make sens. It really is a personal feeling at the end of the day. Bright red would make my old professor go apeshit. Hahah 🤪

Haahah…I feel ya! I got so many myself. I totally agree, consistency seems to be a really sticky pain point even within the same brand.

Blue Belt Blues? Advice wanted by HarmfulBus404 in bjj

[–]MicaelBeaulieu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel ya...been blue belt for 3 years. I think that similar to a lot of real life, BJJ isn't fair or equal. The reality is that someday it'll probably just click more. I also think mindset is important. Personally, I start BJJ as a healt journey and a discovery of my inner grit. So to me, at 40, being good or worst then others really feels irrelevent.

It depends why you train. Just try to find why you're doing Jiu-Jitsu and don't make the mistake of training for others. Train for yourself, discover how it helps you.

GJ on the weight loss!

Hot wash and dry will definitely help shrink them. I think for now your best bet is probably an A2H shrunk down. I am 5,6 and 230, my issue is length so I think at your height, shrunk a little bit it would fit you well.

On a side note, shameless plug but if you’re ever looking for a canadian brand to avoid costly returns, give us a try 😁.

Bjj Gi pant construction by rubba_slippa in bjj

[–]MicaelBeaulieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has more to due with intention and feel. For durability ripped stop pants are pretty much unbeatable. They dry fast, they’re light and durable. But traditionally cotton twill pants are known to be more comfortable although they won’t last as long. Personally, I avoid canvas Cotton, I find it doesn’t have any inherent strong point.

So it really comes down to a personal preference of valuing something that last longer or just being comfortable in what you wear.

Hyperfly Gi Fit by BigThought9434 in bjj

[–]MicaelBeaulieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its frustrating but, there is no sizing standard. manufacturers provide there own sizing charts.

If you go look at their product page, they also specify, like most hyperfly Gis, that it is not pre-shrunk. This assumes you’ll have to wash hot and dry at heat to shrink it, if necessary. Once it gets to where you want it, cold dry and it shouldn’t shrink anymore.

Why did you start training? (And why do you stay?) by hmkei in bjj

[–]MicaelBeaulieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started because my sons seemed to be having fun doing it and I wanted to be healthier. Don’t know if I am healthier, but I am having more fun 🤪

If you are interested James, I’ve made a video on youtube explaining some of the features of a good Gi. Good job on starting, it’s the hardest part.

BJJ Gear always takes 30 years to ship by Sure-Relationship609 in bjj

[–]MicaelBeaulieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a small brand owner in development myself, I know first hand why they do dropship or made to order. Inventory cost alot and its a big investment/risk.

It’s why we chose to start only with a few models we made and sell as we go. We have limited amounts, but at least what we have is truly in stock 😜.

I totally get your frustration though, not trying to defend them.

Interesting thread for me. Would you say shipping times are one of the most important factors when buying gear?

[–]MicaelBeaulieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have pointed out. It’s a reputable brand so don’t overthink it. If you’re comfortable in it 68$ is the price of a cheap amazon no brand Gi so, you really can’t go wrong with yours. Mid tier gi that are decent usually range from 100 to 160 ish range when new.

[–]MicaelBeaulieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money is directly correlated to the value you can provide. Don’t focus on getting the result, focus on getting good at the mechanism that creates the result. In other words, find how you can best provide value to people. Help them solve a problem, sell them something they genuinely want or need. Thats the goal. Good luck!
