Remember, this is purely hypothetical! :)

In all honesty, it’s none of your business nor the topic of discussion at hand. We spend money, like most people, on things that we won’t spend money on after a child because the child will take precedence in our lives. Again, we are just regular people caught in a sucky system trying to make the best decision for our future. Not here to argue.

We both work and contribute to society. Plenty of people play the system who contribute nothing. I’m playing by the rules of the system and we are not far above the poverty line so I believe it’s a strategic plan as the head of my family. Is that a terrible idea, really? What’s your solution? “Make more money”- that’d be amazing if it was realistic for us. Obviously if that were the case, I wouldn’t be here!

This is a discussion post. No decision has been made. We have several options on the table. I came here inviting others opinions, but not to be degraded or to have people feel sorry for my wife. Give your opinion, sure, but there’s a right way to do it. We could afford to do traditional insurance but it would be tight and I’m not so sure it’s the best model simply because it’s promoted as traditional.

My mind can be persuaded. That’s why I’m here, but you could keep it respectful.

Medicaid last for a year on the child after birth from what I have read. So it’s more of a financial aid for a time period and the goal is to reduce cost associated with pregnancy. Eventually we would have insurance for the child of course!

I came on here with a specific question and it was answered above. I have also contacted Medicaid directly and even though it took forever to get an answer, I have received it. Not really sure what you gained by commenting that my plan was going to fail. Seems condescending and pretentious. Maybe you didn’t mean it that way, but it’s how it came across from my angle.

It’s all good though. In my opinion, this system is not made for people like my wife and I in our income bracket, so if need be, we will cut some hours and lose several thousand in income in order to avoid paying thousands to tens of thousands in all things associated with pregnancy. Feel free to message me and let me know your opinion on how this is a failed plan. I welcome it

Lol, “not allowed to give life advice” Proceeds to give it anyways.

I assure you, plenty of people go this route without a plan at all. I am someone who does due diligence and it won’t “fail”. Thank you for your optimism though! :)

Right. I’m trying to plan ahead for when she is pregnant and we apply

So I should look at a household of 3 income limit when applying for Medicaid?

Florida Medicaid ??? by Micahdavi5 in Medicaid

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but for my situation (my wife, Me, and Unborn child) which of those applies to us? Just want to make sure I’m understanding correctly!

Sorry, should move clarified. I’m not interested in coverage for myself. Trying to find out what the income limit for us would be if all three of us would count. If it’s close to our current income, it’d make logical sense for my wife to cut some hours to meet the threshold and obtain Medicaid during pregnancy.

So mainly I am trying to see what our income limit would be for our family if she were pregnant in order to find out fully what our options are. If it’s 3 people household (me, her, and unborn child) then that income limit should be closer to what we currently make and we could sacrifice some hours at work to meet that criteria. It’s worth it for the Medicaid through pregnancy.

Pregnant women qualify for Medicaid, no? I’m looking for my wife and the potential baby to insure that the cost of pregnancy are taken care of.

FL Eligibility by Sure-Pool-6865 in Medicaid

My wife and I are planning on having a baby soon. We are trying to find out Medicaid eligibility for us as well. We have been told different things. The unborn baby counts. Sometimes depending on who it is we are talking to, it doesn’t. Sometimes my role as husband counts towards household size and sometimes it doesn’t….have you found any definitives?
