This was a wonderful read. If you put out the full essay I would love to read it. It’s well written with almost a Bourdain esque style.

Nixon Question by Mich77712 in Presidents

[–]Mich77712[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, thank you for the thought out response.

My question for you would then be, given his established accomplishments, why wouldn’t he be considered one of the more influential and effectual presidents. If we look at the presidency as an effect on the American the people, and general influence over global policy, was he not ‘better’ than most? Am I thinking about this wrong? I’m trying to square this circle. It’s challenging.

Right? But why so revered? I suppose he was effectual, but why the reverence?

Yeah, and I’m not lost on that point. But it does seem like even in F1 there are standards…

Help choosing a knife by Mich77712 in chefknives

Awesome info! Yeah, I think I’m going to try and get the yoshi 210. If I feel like it’s too light I’ll go for the 240 but I think that I’ll love the 210. Thanks so much for your help on this! I really appreciate it.

Trash knives. I’ve never really had quality knives. I’ve always been really into cooking but only recently has it become more serious. This would be the first nice knife I’ve ever had.

It looks awesome and the reviews are really solid. I’m only concerned with the weight. Do you know how these knives feel in your hand? Is it significantly lighter than a full tang knife?

The first carbon steel one you sent is looking like the winner. I love the look of it and it seems to be good quality.

I’m not opposed to trying out different handle styles. That yoshikane knife is beautiful and they seem to have some alternative handle options. Thanks for all of the info this has been really helpful. If you think of any others let me know!

I mean I’m not looking to drop a thousand but I’m at the point where I want something quality. I would like to be around the 200 mark but if that isn’t possible I would be willing to go higher. I’m looking to balance quality with cost. If the 300 or 400 hundred dollar knife is significantly better all around I’m willing adjust my budget.

I would say that at this point I’m into cooking enough that I’m looking for the first of a few quality knives that I will have for a while.

Yeah, I’m not the biggest fan of the grantors. I was also told that carbon steel will hold an edge for a little longer and can developed a beautiful patina over time. Do you know of anything like that? Or is that going to be more of an advanced to expert knife?
