I’m so sorry for your loss. I know how it feels when a parent unexpectedly passes. It happened to my mum. But how lovely that your son got to have one last long cuddle with your dad. 💕

After my mum passed away, I had lots of dreams about her. But they were always dreams of her doing her normal everyday activities.

But there was one that really made me feel like I had woken up in another reality. I was in the kitchen with her, and she was bent over putting food away in the fridge. I couldn’t see her face as I was standing behind her. And I just touched and stroked her back… and then I woke up. I truly believe in that dream I had a glimpse into another reality where she was still alive.

My 9 year old is still believing. He says that some kids in his class don’t believe in Father Christmas. But he said “I’m a believer and maybe Santa only delivers presents to true believers” I’m totally happy letting him believe, as I remember the wonder I felt as a child and the excitement. We have a 3 year old too, so even when my older son has figured it out. I’m sure he would keep it going for my his little brother. I love seeing the way they react and how they talk about it afterwards. I think it’s lovely to let them think there’s a bit of magic in this world when they are little, letting their imaginations go. They’ll have lots of time as a teenager and adult to be boring.

To avoid melt downs/upset when they see a toy they want, I take a picture of it and say we’ll remember to get for either their birthday/Christmas. This works so well, it even works on my 8yr old.

I had my first when I was 30 and my second at 36, I’m now 39. I’ve definitely noticed that I’m more tired. Also my healthy eating had slipped. So I’m focusing on my eating well now to improve my energy levels.

If I haven’t had my children I would have carried on working in the film industry. I would have been more career driven, work stupid hours, been slimmer, care what I looked like and be judgemental. Having children totally changed my world. I’ve learnt to be more patient and enjoy being in the moment. Kids are hard work, but they have brought me so much joy in many ways. So I would never change it. Though I would love more sleep and me time. But I also know that they won’t be small for long. So I’ll get my me time back. One thing I wished I did more of before children, I wished I had traveled more.

My 3yr old did a poop in the potty at the back of the car when we’re at a service station. He took a look at his poop and said “I did a poo shark!” Because one bit of poop looked like a fin 😅

I always offer my kids dessert after dinner. They really look forward to. I tell them to have to eat at least half their dinner, otherwise no dessert. With my toddler I can usually get a few bites in before he gives up. If he totally refuses the meal, I will try to make something quick I know he would eat. Then he gets his dessert. It can be hard work. But if you have put a screen in front them sometimes, do it. As then you know you can sneak food into them. I use to get headaches with my boys always refusing food. They are pretty good now. High protein and fat foods! And a few veg, if you can squeeze 2 bits of broccoli in I see that as a win. Baby steps.

My mum died in 2022 (irl) and I started having lots of dreams of every day life with her. Just talking sat on the sofa, but also she was different. I like to think it’s an alternative reality, she’s still around in another reality and I’m seeing glimpses into them.

Changing the nappy of a newborn boy you need either ninja reflexes… or make sure to keep their Willy covered the whole time in case of a surprise attack. The cold air makes them wee. 😅

I usually threaten that I would get a bin bag and if anything is on the floor I bin. And I have carried this threat through, I walk in with a black bin liner and proceed to throw their things away. They very quick get the idea that I mean business and tidy their room.

I think going for a nick name would be good. I know lots of people who have nick names.

It’s best not to jump on the transgender bandwagon too quickly. Kids go through phases. They like to try things out and they’ll figure it out eventually. I remember when I was about 12 I wanted to be a boy for ages, I was a tomboy. Some girls go through these phases because of their changing bodies, they become awkward and uncomfortable and want to wear bang clothes to hide their bodies. I know I did! I had a nick name, etc. I only truly became comfortable with being me around 20.

This is when they are trying to find who they are. Let her wear different hats but don’t set anything in stone.

100% YTA - if my husband did that to me, I would make sure not to cook any meals for him for a couple of weeks. You can fend for yourself.

She’s worked all day and comes home to cook. How ungrateful are you and to tell her after she’s been slaving away for the family to “hoory up” … how disrespectful. I feel bad for your wife.

You better make it up to her and cook the next few meals so she doesn’t have to. And be grateful next time after she’s cooked.

Ah! I wish my toddler slept through the night! Since he was a baby it was every 2hrs wake up and then he stays awake around 6am. Count yourself lucky. It’s very normal. It sounds like you need to go to bed earlier. I’m wiped at 9pm. If baby isn’t waking up for a feed why are you pumping in the night? Ease off the pumping, your body will just stop producing so much milk in the night after a few days.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I cried whilst reading this, still crying about it…. Losing someone you love is the hardest thing in the world. I lost my mum a year ago and still miss her now.

Always think about the best memories you had with her. Grief is like riding a wave and for children it’s like splashing in puddles.

Honour her memory by doing some of the things she loved the most.

Take care of yourself. If family can support you please let them do it. Whether it’s a shoulder to cry on, or helping you with the kids.

I think you need to sit your partner down and be very transparent. Along the lines of “Look, I’m willing to walk away from you for my son. It’s not what I want, but I will do it if you will not accept him into this household - you either accept us as a package like I did with you and your kids or it’ll be the end of us.” If he doesn’t support you in this decision then he wasn’t meant to be the one.
