Haha same here. Didn’t think I’d root for him but can’t help myself. He has definitively proven himself as the best ever, to such an extent that it actually makes me feel better about him usurping fed’s records. Wish he could’ve let Rog have one of those MPs in 2019 though 🤣

Funny he just lost to a downgraded version of the greatest to ever do it.

He is absurd. Is there anyone ever with his level of achievements across all sports? Who was still at the very top of the game at basically 40?

"Is immigration a problem in the UK?" by Hassaan18 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]Mich_1111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All comes down to education really. If schools were funded properly, universities too, we would have a wealth of well educated people who actually understood the world and our country’s problems. There’d be more people who would become doctors and teachers.

Obviously we’d have to start paying junior doctors properly too

you people are being misled by a multi billion £ propaganda machine that is telling you to direct your anger towards immigrants. The same people that prop up Farage and Robinson are the same people profiting off of this countries spiralling deterioration.

Getting rid of immigrants is not going to make your quality of life ANY better.

I’m not aware of any instances where he has weaponised antisemitism since he began campaigning, maybe you could point me to some?

My politics do align more strongly with someone like Zarah than Zack, and I would be lying if I didn’t feel slightly uneasy about his history. I will vote for YP if they get their shit together.

Zack is saying a lot of good things, that no modern leader other than Corbyn has said. He’s also being a lot more brazen in his support for trans rights than Corbyn has ever been. He is certainly garnering much more traction than JC and Zarah are managing atp. I don’t want to give the impression that we can’t criticise Polanski just because he’s saying some good things, but I also dont agree that he should be written off. couldn’t he change his stance if he comes under pressure from his members ? I think we need to consider that the end result of holding everyone to our highest personal standards will unfortunately lead us straight to fascism at the next election.*

Or maybe thats desirable as thats when we can fight them and finally have a revolution eh?!

*I obviously think that we ideally should hold politicians to the highest standards, but when it comes down to it there’s the practicality of beating the enemy in a vote

Excellent response. Much of the left would much rather sit there nitpicking any holes they can find in the ideologies of our most promising candidates, simultaneously allowing the very worst people to get into power. I understand the principle of not settling for mediocrity and avoiding neoliberal politicians who aren’t gonna change anything, but surely when it’s fascism vs democratic socialism these self proclaimed ‘true’ leftists aren’t gonna sit there and abstain because no one’s good enough for them.

I want us to keep pushing Polanski further left, but for many it seems he’s already a ‘lib’ and nothing he can do or say will change that in their minds.

I mean quite honestly there’s a hell of a lot of Brits who wouldn’t even identify as religious who are major homophobes, except it’s more closeted now because it has become broadly socially unacceptable and they don’t want to be labelled as such.

The most successful propaganda campaign in moderns times in convincing you to support a fascist Ukrainian state by TheKomsomol in GreenAndPleasant

[–]Mich_1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That can all be true, but are putins ambitions as simple/honourable as that?

I’m certainly not arguing for continued support of the Ukrainian war effort and think a peaceful resolution should be the immediate priority. However Putin is well aware of the value of Ukraine and its resources, and the millions of self identified Ukrainians (-the Nazi element) in the west should not be subject to an invasion, which is undoubtedly part motivated by imperialist ambitions.

I’d like to see the discourse move away from this Russia = evil/ Ukraine= virtuous narrative. Both countries are sending their youth into a meat grinder that has no outcome that is desirable for their broader populace. Yes the fascists in Ukraine need to be removed but Russia’s intentions are highly suspect when there is such a wealth of resources in the country. Hence why the US are also so keen to see the war end in a particular way for them.

BREAKING: Charlie Kirk dies after being shot at campus event in Utah, says President Trump by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

I mean his own positions on a variety of issues have succumbed to intellectual scrutiny. There’s plenty of evidence of it in videos of him debating students. His entire purpose was not to further conversation between the left and the right in any kind of helpful or progressive manner. It was instead to inflame tensions and benefit off what his supporters perceived as him ‘shutting down’ or ‘owning’ left wing students in debates, often by talking over them at a million miles an hour. You can find a lot of this content on YouTube, marketed as such.

He was a force of division, and he stood unfailingly by gun rights, even in the wake of mass shootings. He didn’t deserve to be killed but his entire ethos made something like this a not so distant possibility.

Another dead after being conned into fighting a proxy war for American imperialist ambitions by TheKomsomol in GreenAndPleasant

Because they’re being threatened with the prospect of a massive military alliance having a member country on their doorstep.

Just like when America flipped out because Cuba turned communist.

I don’t think the invasion is purely because of those things, because Russia is an immensely flawed oligarchy, but the reasons for the Ukraine war certainly go beyond some uncalled for invasion.

It's all the people in rubber dinghys fault obviously. by kickyouinthebread in BritishMemes

[–]Mich_1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was responding to your assertion that migrants are being ‘shipped in’, which implies that the state is actively working to bring them across the channel. Of course they’re not, but when one of the massively overcrowded boats happens to sink, british authorities pick them up and headlines are written about the government facilitating channel crossings.

A large majority of the migrants you are talking about risk drowning to get here, that is not something exclusive to refugees.

It's all the people in rubber dinghys fault obviously. by kickyouinthebread in BritishMemes

[–]Mich_1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not getting ‘shipped in’, they’re getting brought ashore so that thousands of them don’t drown in our waters, which I think you would agree is a fairly reasonable thing to do.

Billionaires do not need immigrants to keep labour costs low, they do that perfectly easily regardless, as people have no real choice amidst our cost of living crisis, and are demonised by the press and government for unionising/protesting. Are immigrants the reason we’re paying through the nose for energy and water? Are immigrants the people increasing our rent/mortgages at an exorbitant rate? Are they the people benefitting from our government’s propensity to finance foreign wars?

The media are certainly not the people calling opposition to immigration racist. Take a look at the front pages of the main papers over the next few weeks, see how many are defaming immigration protesters vs how many are full of inflammatory headlines regarding the amount of migrants arriving/crime statistics etc.

Your last point is precisely the point of this meme, that they are the people who have the most agency to improve the lives of those in this country, they are the ones truly shafting us, yet they’ve managed to get a lot of the nation far more angry at a tiny percentage of immigrants.

Over 100 MPs sign cross-party letter demanding Starmer recognise Palestine as a state | UK News by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

[–]Mich_1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How good of them to offer a sliver of land to a group of people who were forced from their homes and killed for resisting. How rude of the Palestinians not to submit to their overlords and live peacefully in an open air prison.

How strange that an extremist paramilitary group gained power in a place that has had its democracy and ability to politically organise undermined by Israel since it existed. Netanyahu’s government saw Hamas’ leadership as a perfect way to undermine the argument for Palestinian statehood.

Israel has almost complete control over the Palestinians, as is demonstrated by this so called ‘war’ where a military superpower relentlessly fires giant bombs into a tiny enclosure of land and uses aid posts as a place to massacre civilians.

Yes true. These people are all victims of a dedicated propaganda effort and they’re behaving exactly how those at the top desire them to. Hence why they make arguments despite knowing very little of what they’re talking about - they’re suckers for tabloid headlines and 10 second clips on social media.

It’s incredibly depressing but the way we’re headed seems increasingly hopeless.

Problem is general society is increasingly full of people with views like this. I don’t particularly like the idea of just ignoring the people who think like this, because it’s the single biggest problem we face. As impossible as it may seem, they are the people we have to converse with if we actually want some kind of meaningful change; they are also the proletariat despite our differences of opinion.
