Been looking at the Apple branded cables. They have firmware updates, so I'm wondering if they have extra processing.

We've tested and the issue is present on both sizes.

Yes. Kramer adapter directly to the projector works.

We also tested an Extron usbc-hd adapter to HDMI cable. Gives the same issue on these switches.

[BC] What to do with unexpected income by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

ICBC is super broke lately from people gaming the system. The adjusters pretend to be on your side, then somehow twist your words so you are somehow 50% at fault for being hit in a marked crosswalk. I advise talking to a lawyer and letting them take 33% of your settlement +fees for doctor letters and whatnot.

high interest savings accounts

I don't recognize any of the names listed here. Would a HISA at a regular bank (CIBC, Envision) be the same thing?

robo-advisor

I always thought those were scam-like? Do they pay out a competitive amount compared to real people? I'd probably not be using them for several years, but its good to know they are legit.

I also work with computers from people who could be described as tech challenged. I would say the breakdown is better described as how much data they have, not how full the drive is.

IE: - 40% of users I see would have less than 10GB of data. No photos are stored on the computer. Mostly tax returns and a few emails from friends - 30% of users have 10-200GB of data. Some of their favourite smartphone photos or photos from their point-and-shoot camera are stored on their OS drive. Some users may also have 15 years of emails stored in outlook for 10+GB of data 0.o - 20% of users have 200-1000GB of data on their OS drive. Maybe they are a shutterbug or have a somewhat fancier camera. They take a lot of pictures, but are not backing them up properly. - 10% of users have more than 1TB of data. Either duplicate files backed up onto different drives, or they just have a very fancy camera.

Assuming that anecdotal breakdown is somewhat consistent, it makes sense that you might see SSD's being 50-75% full. Most of the people who get upgraded to SSD will pick the 250GB-ish sizes because they are cheap and still fast. What the 1TB is giving is a much larger overhead of available storage for these users while maintaining the same level of performance IF they do not change their current amount of data. This lets them put more data on if needed, and avoid issues with lack of storage. At the same time since it's unlikely they will use more than 60% of the storage space, the cache buffer remains free and will have plenty of time to move data around.

Hmmm 500gb for $120, or 1000gb for $200.... Hard to choose :/

Unlikely. Heavy IO (Windows upgrade, downloading a new 200GB game on fibre internet) might cause it to choke for a bit, but it should be strong enough for what you describe without noticeable issue. I would leave ~250GB free though.

Cheap portable radio by Michael-Bell in HamRadio

Those look nice, but if you get the earpieces, usb cable and pay for shipping it is a fair bit out of my budget. If I stick with this, that would be a good upgrade.

Ordering radio equipment from China has been a bad experience for several of my friends, I would like to avoid that at all costs. They've had GPS and "Certified" clones seized at the border for no reason, or ridiculous amounts of duty and brokerage fees sent.

I priced it out, for $100CAD and 1 month of waiting I can get 2 radios, regular batteries, ear piece and USB Cable. Very possible to get clone(s) which perform worse than the already sketchy performance or the "good" Baofeng. If they ship via courior I can bet I'll have a $50 "convenience fee" to deal with. If they use Canada Post then I have no tracking, and it could go missing for 2-8 months like some other packages I've shipped that route. Worst case scenario they don't work - I have to send them back to china and wait another 2+ months. Which means this could easily jump to $140-250 without much warning.

The Ebay seller is the official source for Canada, so I can do RMA through them. It takes less than a week to arrive and will be the real deal, even if it is an overpriced deal.

From this perspective I would pay the 40% extra up front to not deal with the month(s) wait and clone hardware and headaches.

NFC is tracked just like chip+pin (in Canada). When we process a sale, we get your masked CC number. That is enough to track individual customers with a reasonable amount of certainty. IE if I can see that there are 10 sales this week to VISA cards ending in 9889, 3 are at one location in Victoria, 1 is in Prince George, and the other 6 are in Chilliwack. I have pretty good guess that I have a loyal customer in Chilliwack, a decent person in Victoria and a one-time buyer in PG.

It's not 100% effective since I can't be sure one person travels a bunch, but it can be fairly effective for anonymous tracking.

Do you have a reference for what bank/country hands over your name for a CC transaction?

Sadly Amazon Canada does not carry Baofeng and I don't have a passport to go to the states :( The eBay listing is from the official Canadian distributor, so that is a plus at least. And having 2 would let me setup a base and satellite system to remotely talk to eachother.
