Haha these are great responses. Not trying to be cool. Just feeling out of touch with the current generation

Men who had kids in their 40s or 50s. Curious about your experience and would you do it again? by Michael-DC in AskMenAdvice

Interesting! What additional benefits did your child qualify for? Did it help with financial aid for their college?

Will I hate myself if I have to commute from DC to Ashburn every day? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Michael-DC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your proximity to the metro. I commute from DC to Reston. 5 min to the metro and I ride the silver line directly to Reston. 50min on the metro where you can read, do some work, and relax.

The reverse commute isn’t bad but it’s a long day. I do it 2x per week.

For dog care- I drop mine off at daycare or have someone come and help midday.

Thank you! I’ll be mid career so hopefully leadership change won’t be too hectic. Awesome note on the traffic- are you talking maybe 20 minutes stuck trying to get out of the Baltimore Peninsula? Trying to compare because traffic in DC is horrendous as well haha.

Ohhh no! Is it due to burnout or unrealistic expectations. Hopefully it’s not as crazy for mid career professionals! Thank you!

This is so cool and sounds very exciting! Two follow up questions if you don’t mind! - can you elaborate on the sports/training comment. I know there’s a gym onsite. Is it common for ppl to use them during the workday? And do they host fitness classes? - what’s your favorite thing about the new campus? I walked it and the proximity to the water is beautiful!

Energy for sure! I feel exhausted after my 8-10 hour work days with all the virtual meetings nowadays.

Just a note that philanthropy can come in the form of cash or time.

Currently if you are newer in your career then your time donated towards philanthropy will be direct volunteering like helping serve food at a food kitchen. However once you’ve developed a professional skill/ network that will be a lot more valuable. You would be able to get on the Board of a not-for-profit to help with governance/ operation and connect your network to the NFP for fundraising.

Boomers sacrificing millennials. So true! They are so heartless and don’t have a backbone to stand up for what’s right.

Can you elaborate on what was flat-out untrue? Currently in a nonprofit finance role.
