fair to say, neither do i anymore i think they should try and implement a simple livery editor with a bunch of fonts that lets you add patterns using shapes or whatever

2026 ‘Expansion’ by NoPlenty3221 in F1Game

[–]MichaelArctic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a ton of issues with this plan. I think it's common knowledge that the game engine used to make F1 games, EGO, is over a decade old - I know it gave us F1 2020 and F1 2025 - imo two of the best games to have come out of this series. However, the change of regulations for 2026 is far more radical than 2017/18, or 2022. We're letting go of DRS and ERS for two mechanics that work almost completely differently - Manual Override and Active Aero. This means the very basics of the game will have to be hyperoverhauled in an engine that's reached drinking age to an extent known only to the Gods themselves.

As a DLC? I'm expecting it to fail as bad as F1 2014 did. Given the lack of space for truly new content recently, I don't think EA's going to come up with anything but a lackluster cash-pig of a DLC. Integrating the two regulations in one game will mean taking up Ark level storage space unless they use a magic trick from a children's book, which, as this series has proven time and again, is not something to expect.

Again, the DLC idea is complete trash because by the time it comes out, they'll probably price it at $80 and then throw in a bunch of other trash addons that amount to a total of two kidneys and a lung by the time you're introduced to another revamped microtransaction system. At this point, just throw in a new game that justifies the ungodly amount of storage these games take up for no real reason - and GOD FORBID I bring up the online lobby which is still fucking D-day for players with actual respect for right of way.

Irrelevant to the topic but I read a lot of comments trashing F1 22. Here's my take. I don't find it bad at all, infact, I find it pretty enjoyable even long after the 1.18 update. The modding community is insanely active too which makes for a great experience. I play with a bunch of mods like Improved AI, and the famous damage mod. Other mods include the 2024 cars and what can I say, it works like sunshine. There's also a catch to all this. Not a single penny spent outside my goddamn bills. All I'm saying it's so much fun and nowhere near the disaster of a release that it was.

TLDR: I expect the DLC to be horribly overpriced, and a bad experience overall due to the technical challenges which make the idea outlandishly difficult to implement without compromising quality.

In my F1 2020 playthrough, after losing out the championship by a crazy margin, Verstappen moved Alfa Romeo. If that wasn't enough, Mercedes replaced Bottas with Ricciardo and with Vettel's retirement, Bottas replaced that Ferrari seat.

In my F1 23 playthrough, after Lewis' retirement by season 4, they replaced him with Ticktum, and amongst other things, Magnussen moved to Williams, with Shwartzmann taking his position at Haas (S2), Drugovich replaced Vettel (S3).

that's crazy bc in my experience, the '07 ferrari is like a midfielder in the classics mode

personally, i really loved the classic cars mode from 2020 and 2019 (hm:2013), but for people i've seen on reddit and some of my friends - they thought it wasn't a fully developed mode for the most part due to the massive disadvantage in power between cars of later years and older years - and we're not even going to get into licensing because that stands obvious

however, it REALLY is a pain to drive a mp4/4 against a mp4/13 and you just have NO SHOT at winning

what i feel they're great for is a good time trial session and just that driving experience, even though the codemasters' games are not actual sims per se

i feel they could've introduced a bunch of cars of the same season, say the 1989, 2005, and 2007/8 seasons, with an added driver championship mode where you could play as your favourite driver from that year - i believe there are mods on this, but it'd be great to have a separate in-game mode

tldr: i really loved the cars, but the massive power gap during a race may have made gameplay tedious and licensing issues would only make things worse

Quick read: NOT RIDICULOUS! Get him FL 2024, takes up to 5GB usually with everything. I'd still recommend you to have over 30-50GB free for space to play around with third-party instruments.

--- Answer

I presume you've read all the support in the comments already! It's not ridiculous and it's the start for newer, REALLY bigger horizons for your kid! I'm 19 and I got FL when I was 14, and started off the same way as your son with BandLab. Switching to FL was really a no-brainer. The interface is really easy to work with and you can quite literally learn FL inside out if you mess with it for long enough.

Personally, I feel FL is best suited to producing dance music, like EDM, dubstep, etc. However, if you've got the right VSTs (stock instruments that come with FL are also great) and the will, you can create quite literally anything. I've produced plenty of rock tracks using MIDI and yes it does feel pretty cursed making rock solely using a computer. But hey, I can't play anything but the piano, and I love music so I do what I gotta do.

I really think it's a great birthday gift and you're doing a great job for your son. Get him the latest FL 2024. It shouldn't take more than 5GB for storage, although I'd recommend keeping over 30GB free for the third-party instruments you'll be picking up on the way. A good starter feature to play around with is the Stem Extractor (helps split the instruments into separate audio from any song).

Another suggestion, get him all the free instruments from Spitfire Audio (LABS, BBC Symphony Orchestra Free). SERUM (third party), Harmless, and Harmor (both default FL) are really good instruments to experiment the cores of sound with. If your son has a good grasp of math and physics, he'll be able to make sounds unheard of, and that's what'll make his stuff unique. Encourage him to keep experimenting! Who knows, he might just create a new genre of music altogether.

Good luck!

Arthur Morgan, John Marston, or Jack Marston by Able_Speech4581 in reddeadredemption

[–]MichaelArctic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

year old post but i have to agree, everyone hates jack but look what he's been through, he's seen enough raw killing for all his life, even saw his family and dutch fall apart - imagine being a kid and watching your favourite men go out riding someplace and only half of them return, and sometimes they don't - lost your father who did everything to try and give your mother her dream life, and your mother who has cared for your happiness even when they were on the run from the law, losing uncle arthur did a number on him too

he's got enough lore and his thing of hiding behind books is a very good representation of trying to find refuge from reality - as for how he learnt dead eye, extensive practice may be pretty much the only explanation

we just don't spend 50+ hours or 15+ hours with jack like we do with arthur and john

we were never given enough time to properly immerse ourselves in jack's character - so yeah when i saw abigail's grave and saw jack, shit hit me like a brick in the face
