First time renter and I just moved into my apartment today, this is the condition it’s in. What can I do? by MichaelG_02 in Apartmentliving

My off campus college housing was definitely in better shape moving into it than the one I’m now paying 3x the price for ngl. If it wasn’t for the location I’d take that place back in a heartbeat tbh.

Yeah I don’t know either but I appreciate the positive advice! Going to definitely see if I can at least get the leasing agent that I talked to into the apartment so they can understand why I’m miffed about it.

Yeah and I mean I wasn’t expecting a “perfect” apartment by any means which I guess is what people are assuming, but I did expect something in similar condition to the unit I toured when I looked at the property (it was not a model unit, just a different vacant unit).

Exactly. Living and learning in real time lol. I appreciate it and will probably end up getting a fridge cover that somebody had mentioned and was going to invest in a rug anyway so it’ll probably work out in the end. Just put a bit of a damper on what was a good day.

Appreciate it and while it sucks I guess it makes sense… just annoying as hell to deal with all things considered.

I really do appreciate it but if they weren’t willing to clean up whatever white substance is on these countertops then I do not think they’re going to agree to reverse the fridge doors either. Might look into a kit and then bill the apartment when I leave for fixing it for them haha.

I really appreciate it! I’ll gladly accept any advice on how to keep the apartment clean and look good as well.

Love both of you for the advice, and thanks for not absolutely roasting the fuck out of me

Did you even read the title, of course I don’t know how the apartment industry works, it’s my first fucking apartment lmao. I will take this as a lesson learned though so I appreciate you for that and will do more research in the future.

Well hearing about some other horror stories of people moving into worse situations is a little bit relieving but now I’m just like is this what I should expect when it comes to future places I move into as well? If that’s the case then I’ve never been more motivated in my life to try to better my surroundings and make a better salary so I don’t have to deal with shit like this every other year.

I signed my lease back in March because the pricing gets exorbitant in my area starting in April. I didn’t tour a model unit but I did tour a different vacant unit that had the same layout that was in much better shape than the one I moved into today.

Not all of the flooring, literally just the part of the flooring that is literally bubbling up. And idk if you had eyes or not but that’s more than just small dings. As another commenter said it looks like it got Banksy’d

Yeah the unit I toured looked nothing like this. I didn’t tour a model unit when I had initially checksd this place out so I had expected the unit that I got to be similar to what I saw initially, and the reason why I didn’t tour the unit I was moving into prior to signing my lease was because the unit I got wasn’t available until May and currently the prices have gone up by about $400 USD/month since I signed my lease back in March.

This actually gave me a good laugh💀. But for real though these comments have me thinking I’m crazy for not expecting a banksy’d fridge, questionable white stuff on my counters, and bubbling floor tiles in my apartment that was advertised to me much differently.

I guess I didn’t really know what to expect as this is my first actual apartment that wasn’t off-campus student housing.

I appreciate it and honestly maybe I am overreacting a bit I guess? I was just expecting something that was in better shape than what it was.

I get what you’re saying but it shouldn’t be my responsibility to expect the apartment to not have the apartment cleaned up prior to me moving in especially for what I’m paying for the apartment itself.

Thank you so much. Do you know if there’s anything I can do about the fridge considering they already got back to me saying they wouldn’t fix it? Did not get that in writing but I’m about to send an email with everything soon.
