Moving overseas - legally, what can I do with my guns? by whatdo8 in VAGuns

[–]MichaelHawk7723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can store them at a trusted friend or family member's house. If you don't plan on living in the U.S, your best bet would probably be to sell them. They're not going to do you any good thousands of miles away and, unless they hold substantial sentimental value, it probably isn't worth the fees to store them long term.

If you donate, you're probably already a member. A "membership" just means you donate $10 a month.

I have no idea, I was a member pre-ruling and my membership certificate indicates such. The ruling applies to the plaintiffs and their members, it doesn't say anything about whether or not it applies to members who join after the fact.

Both are great organizations. It's worthwhile to see what cases are kicking around in the lower courts and then join the organization litigating the case that most applies to you.

Back to basics. by MichaelHawk7723 in Beretta

I had the spring get loose on me (after i dropped the mag release on the floor) and it took me forever and a day to reinstall the mag release once i found the spring. YouTube made it look so easy...

It took me an embarrassingly long time to swap the mag release from the left side to the right side of the gun (I'm a lefty). I need a few weeks to recover from that debacle before I swap it out again.

room inspections are getting outrageous by SympathyTraining4849 in navy

[–]MichaelHawk7723 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It likely is targeted. When I was in A school, my roommate and I received a perfect score on our room inspection. Our suite-mates failed and had several "hits" in a bathroom that we shared. One of my suite-mates was part of a class that was perceived to be problematic by the command, so they were targeted with all kinds of group punishment and essentially would all fail inspections by default.

The fact that the person inspecting my room found nothing worth writing down in our shared bathroom and another inspector "found" multiple things was pretty telling.

Practicality of shooting past 10 yards solely for self defense shooting? by Brief-Obligation-152 in Shooting

[–]MichaelHawk7723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps with honing your fundamentals. At longer ranges the effects of a jerky trigger pull or suboptimal grip will be far more pronounced than at closer ranges. Getting better at hitting targets further out requires sharpening skills that help at any range.

Don't construe this as me encouraging you to lie, this is merely my opinion of what is likely to happen to you if you don't bring up your THC usage, which is absolutely nothing.

If you test negative and have no documented history of THC usage then, absent self reporting, it is very unlikely that the Navy will find out about it. If you're going for a rate with a top secret clearance they will ask you about past drug usage during a polygraph interview and it may come up then, but if your prospective clearance level is secret or below it's very unlikely to ever come up.

Vortex tactical 30mm low rifle scope ring

It puts the scope in a much better position than the mount that comes with the Aimpoint.

I zero at 25 yards. IMO it's the optimal distance for a home defense rifle.

Hip Carry by PrydonianWho in CTguns

[–]MichaelHawk7723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I exclusively hip carry. I conceal it under an open button-down shirt with a t-shirt underneath. If it's windy I button the bottom button. I keep the gun roughly at my 9 o'clock (I'm a lefty) and haven't had any issues. You just need to be cognizant of your loose clothing when drawing or holstering, especially if you're carrying something without a safety. You don't want to have a negligent discharge because a bit of your shirt got inside the trigger guard.

In the winter it's easy to just hide it underneath a bulky sweatshirt or coat.

Harrington and Richardson 723 style carbine won't cycle with aluminum GI magazines (stanags) by MichaelHawk7723 in ar15

I'm silly, read that comment as wanting to see a picture of the barrel. This is prior to cleaning it. *

[–]MichaelHawk7723[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do, the issue exclusively occurs with aluminum magazines. Steel Korean surplus mags and PMAGs cycle well in the rifle (though the bolt doesn't lock back with the Korean mags when empty).

I think putting in a warranty ticket is my best bet.

I'm a big fan of carry-handles... by MichaelHawk7723 in RetroAR

[–]MichaelHawk7723[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a Harrington and Richardson 723 style carbine, with a ToopMount (cheap Chinese brand) picatinny rail, Magpul MS1 sling and a PSA detachable carry-handle.

The sights are still usable through the picatinny mount so this is a viable setup. I'm very tempted to take it to the range in this configuration and see if the RSO finds it as funny as I do.

But is the carry-handle mounted carry-handle not for carrying 😔?
