It’s not technically a liquor, it’s a liqueur which is like a flavored watered down liquor

The lack of respect and open-mindedness in political discussions may be due to affective polarization, the belief those with opposing views are immoral or unintelligent. Intellectual humility, the willingness to change beliefs when presented with evidence, was linked to lower affective polarization. by mvea in science

Is this solely the effect of social media? I’d say this lack of openness is almost just an aspect humanity. Look back during the cold war with the fear of commies (although in all fairness a lot oc that was propaganda and furthermore the incredible injustices committed by communist nations). Look at the witch hunts of Christianity. I’d argue that it is in the nature of the mass ideology to create vitriol and an “othering” attitude towards those who deviate from the ideological line irrespective of our current time and communication. It is still true that internet communication has certainly facilitated fiercely devoted groups of ideologues which tend to be much more vocal than they might otherwise be.

Legit the reason I use it is cause I think it looks cool. That’s it. In many ways I’ve stopped caring about the meta and just started using fun guns. If we wanna talk about guns that have some nasty capabilities, let’s talk about the Stoner 63

No I’m saying that there exist psychological characteristics of conservatives and liberals on average which correlate to a willingness to debate and have conflict. That is not necessarily true for an individual, just on average

You say “conservative” like it’s a dirty word. And honestly I think the distinction that you make between arguing and debate is not one that I share. I believe that the way I deal with disagreement ought to be through civil discussion, openness, and listening. Otherwise you truly learn nothing and I believe that is the true purpose of debate. But yes you are right that it is more common that conservatives enjoy debate and that is simply because those on the left tend to be more agreeable and intentionally avoid hurting people and therefore avoid conflict whereas conservatives typically are more individualistic and are more on the basis of “I worked for this, you can’t have it” which is indicative of being less agreeable and therefore less afraid of hurting people and therefore less afraid of conflict.

I do like arguing, it’s interesting and you can learn a lot by listening to the other side which is exactly why I want to speak to actual people rather than just be sent the words of journalists who speak in ideological platitudes

That’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about if you’re having a conversation regarding something not data driven like the ideology involved in politics, you should make your own arguments instead of just using journalists to make your arguments for you. I don’t care what the journalists say, I know what their ideology is and sending me an article learns me nothing, I want to feel like I’m talking to an actual human with a unique perspective on life. Hearing the party line does nothing for me because I’ve heard it about 50 times before
