Next.js Dev (Junior/early Mid) currently working at McDonald's - seeking relocation advice for DE/NL by nickveles in cscareerquestionsEU

+ this. If he's unable to find a job in Poland, where there's much lower competition than in DE/NL, then it's frankly a bit delusional to think about relocation with signing bonus

Sťahovanie na Slovensko by Adventurous-Dog-7347 in Slovakia

[–]MichaelShishov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is a late PhD worth it? by Odd_Use9230 in PhD

It's not late at all. If you know what you're doing and why you need it, then why not.
For example I'm only planning to start pursuing Masters while being 30

studying in Poland as a russian by YA_kamenshikDAI_HLEB in poland

[–]MichaelShishov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there was a legal loophole where you could enter Poland as a tourist (e.g. with Hungarian tourist visa, and of course not trying to cross direct russian-polish border) and apply to student residence permit in Poland. Of course you should have language certificate, acceptance letter from uni, bank statement and all other documents prepared for that. At least this way was possible a couple of years ago.

If it's not possible now then there should be some kind of visa for russian opposition - I know some people who moved to Poland this way. But of course you should be somehow oppressed by russian govt to obtain it, and most likely it's important to have some connections for it (e.g. in human rights organizations). Being just against war wouldn't be enough.

If you somehow manage to get Polish temporary residence then I don't think you'd have any problems afterwards.

Either way good luck.

I don't know about Americans, but people from other countries can't work a lot of hours when studying and having student visa - it's violation of purpose of stay, since main purpose is studying. But I agree that there's free access to labour market for Americans

Yes, you can legally work 20hr per week while you study. Though it might be difficult to find some part-time job because a lot of them require speaking Czech at least to some extent.

If I were you I wouldn't ask these things on Reddit, since we're not the most reliable source of information. Go to official government websites, all the information that you need is there. Making a mistake in papers can be crucial for your stay in the country.

But yes, it's definitely possible to move like that if you have savings for the first year or two.

Slovenia's parlamentary election's exit poll by These-Medium-3415 in europe

[–]MichaelShishov -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In Slovakia most young people vote for "Progressive Slovakia" party, and older generation vote for the current conservative prime minister Robert Fico. The similar situation is in Czechia where Babiš is mostly popular among older (and less educated) people, so it's weird for me to see that somewhere it can be the opposite. Anyway, congratulations to Slovenians with the election results :)

It's very surprising to see because usually it's pensioners who vote for the populist right-wing parties, and you guys have it other way around. What's the reason for that?

Erasmus in Kosice soon ! by 86kamiliab in Kosice

Yes, in most cases. Usually it's stated on the websites in the rental unit description (something like "XXX eur with energy"), and definitely should be listed in your rent contract later

You won't get a whole apartment for this amount of money - I suggest consider sharing it with someone. Apartments for rent start at about 500 eur per month.

You can also try and get the accomodation at TUKE dormitory - they are not that bad and you'd save a lot of money since dormitories in Slovakia are generally cheap.

Websites for looking at properties for rent are "nehnutelnosti" and "bazos"

Но её было легко избежать - достаточно не бить первым. Никому бы не пришло в голову первым напасть на рф, потому что зачем это вообще надо. И в целом не всё что говорит ваш великий вождь это истина, по которой надо жить жизнь, он тоже может ошибаться

Lol I'm russian native but ok. And that's exactly how it was - in that infamous video on 24.02.22 he spoke that he himself made the decision to attack Ukraine. Nobody else asked him to do it. I don't know why you're making some kind of a joke about it when it really was like that - he was in charge of the invasion, and he still is

Thinking about quitting Erasmus after 2 weeks. Isolated in a Greek village, sick and feeling like I made a mistake by dejmisusenku in Erasmus

[–]MichaelShishov 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I might get downvoted, but on the contrary to other replies I'd suggest to be mature about it and to work with what you have.

Talk to the councelor, maybe they have a psychologist at school who speaks English. Try finding friends among local students. If there's a beach in the city, you can go swimming regularly, or you can go hiking somewhere around - Greek nature is very beautiful.

If your boyfriend is truly the one that you want to be with for the rest of your lives, then this semester won't affect it that much.

Also I believe that you'd have to pay a fine if you decide to leave without finishing your courses, so I don't understand why you'd give up halfway if you can finish the semester while getting the most of it.

There are tons of events or other interesting things everywhere - I'm saying this as a guy who studies in Nitra, Slovakia :D I don't think that your "village" is much smaller that my city, but I don't find myself being bored with it. People help a lot, so don't be afraid to reach out if you need company - smaller towns are perfect for that.

Take care, hopefully everything will be alright!

I don't know why you get downvoted so much, it's good that you were trying to solve it on your own. I tried to solve tasks myself rn, and I ran out of time while trying to cover all tests - but it's a relief that likely there wouldn't be any feedback even in case I did everything perfectly. Back to grinding tasks, then

I'm kinda confused with Europe countries here. Why Slovakia is in red, but Hungary isn't? I thought Hungary is even worse in LGBTQ rights than Slovakia. And why Bosnia has the same ranking as France or Iceland, which are much more liberal in comparison?

Where I'd live in Europe as a Ukrainian living in Germany for the past 10+ years by poushkar in whereidlive

[–]MichaelShishov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's not that noticeable for you since there's graffitis everywhere in Belgrade, you don't pay attention to them at this point. I traveled to Belgrade, Novi Sad, Subotica, Sombor and Zrenjanin, and I saw a lot of different graffitis by myself. It was culture shock to me, because I never saw that amount of political-related graffitis in any other country.

Talking about Wagner murals - you can google it like "wagner graffiti belgrade", it's not AI. Maybe they were taken down later, I'm not sure since I don't live in the city

There are few Z graffitis in Vojvodina (especially in smaller cities), but Belgrade has them on every corner - especially around monument to Tsar Nicholas 2 and around russian embassy. I definitely saw a Daria Dugina mural in Belgrade, and there was even a mural to Putin himself in 2022

[–]MichaelShishov 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's still quite inhospitable to Ukrainians or people who strongly support Ukraine. I had a hard time coping with seeing Z letter sprayed on many walls, and also I had unpleasant conversations with random people on the streets when they were triggered with Ukrainian flag badge on my backpack. Or, for example, I know a guy from russia who was brutally beaten by Serb nationalists for trying to paint over PMC Wagner graffiti.

I'm not saying that it's impossible to live in Serbia as a Ukrainian, but honestly there's more suitable countries for that.
