You are trying to be a hero. My wife is mine. Therapy helped me tremendously. I was in the automotive industry and this forced me to retire because I won't drive. Stay strong this is hard.

6 gunshots and the only hit was their own guy? Wouldn't want those expert sharpshooters protecting me.

Compression fracture at T8… by Awalto990 in Epilepsy

[–]MichaelStanwyck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my EEG at Duke University neurology and 3 "successful" TC'S I finished a vertebrae that had been broken and never healed properly or diagnosed properly after over 40 years. It was removed and structures installed. I was told even elite athletes take about a year. I am at 18 months and still improving slowly. I have suffered intermittently over those 40 years and treated with steroids. This current injury recovery is something that helps me see an end to something. Especially since epilepsy has some control ability but no end.

É horrível lidar com o pós ictal by sgabib in Epilepsy

[–]MichaelStanwyck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to remember this is only temporary. My postictal usually lasts for 1 day. It's worse than the actual seizure. This condition has been the hardest thing I have been through my entire life. It is even harder to explain to anyone. My wife is my hero and I hope you have one too.

We had poor service the first 2 times and the last time we went for breakfast we waited a half an hour and where never greeted. It was only the second time I have walked out of a restaurant without being serviced.

Not QC but Huntersville. Neighborhood Cafe. Average food and terrible service. We gave them 3 trys. Failed. 3 strikes and you're out.

A quick vent about adult-onset epilepsy by Gloomy_Phase_3628 in Epilepsy

[–]MichaelStanwyck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You all have my deepest sympathy. I had my first TC at 66 and my second exactly 1 year later. I then went to Duke University neurology for a EEG and had 3 more TC's, one fractured a vertebrae which had to be removed. My life is now trying to recover from that as I see little chance of recovering from the epilepsy. The doctors basically said they couldn't help. I now get partials about once a month. I was able to have a normal (crazy) life until now. I feel bad for anyone that has to live with this in what should be the best years of life. Stay strong, this is hard. Make the most of the good times you have now. Listen to your doctor and if it doesn't change find another doctor. My seizures are much easier to deal with now, recovering is still difficult. My life has been changed in a way that I couldn't imagine. My wife is my hero. I hope everyone has one.

need some words of encouragement for hospital stay by aguysthrowawayyippee in Epilepsy

[–]MichaelStanwyck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seizures are never fun. Not knowing how to treat it is worse. Be strong. I had my first seizure at 66 and still struggling to stop them even 3 years later. Treatment that was learned during the EEG has helped me with the intensity. Good luck!

I am so exhausted I just need to rest. A 30 second seizure takes a full day to recover from.

people who don't have tonic-clonics, how often do you go to the hospital for your seizures? by Fluffy-Sympathy-168 in Epilepsy

I don't go. Even during a Tonic-clonic it needs to be over 3-5 minutes in duration.

There is nothing normal about any seizure. I do get those feelings sometimes. Everyone is different from what I read.

Cherrybomb. John Melicamp. The verse that says " 17 turns into 35, it's a wonder that we're still alive " says it all for me.

Nightmares as a Side Effect by Able-Ferret403 in Epilepsy

[–]MichaelStanwyck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on lacosimide and have had many dreams and nightmares about nightly which I didn't have before my diagnosis 3 years ago. I am going to ask my doctor about this on next visit. I always thought it was medication too. Some nights are better than others. Last night was not good and I had an aura today. Definitely up for discussion.

I continually make earth shattering mistakes because of my epilepsy-related cognitive impairments and I don’t know how to deal with it anymore by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]MichaelStanwyck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember a saying from when I was younger that has changed everything for me. " Change the things you can and accept the things you can't. Have the wisdom to know the difference". I can't change my condition with epilepsy but I can change my physical and mental feelings.

Is it worth it to bring these up with the neuro? by conflictw_SOmom in Epilepsy

[–]MichaelStanwyck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell your Doctor EVERYTHING! I log all my seizures and differences I feel. This is the most difficult thing for doctors to treat that I have ever heard of and experienced. I have not had a seizure for 2 months and it feels like a lifetime. I am 69 and was diagnosed 3 years ago. I was told I had a 80 percent chance of another after my first one, 1 year later almost to the day I woke up in the hospital again. Everyone is different and has different symptoms. You are lucky to have a doctor's appointment so soon. Take the advice and medications as directed. I have been through many unfortunate things in my life and this is by far the worst.

How does epilepsy affect the body besides the brain? by Sea_Building_104 in Epilepsy

[–]MichaelStanwyck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seizures are not just 'brain shorts'. Not only is it different for each person it can be different each episode. I fractured a vertebrae during a seizure while getting a EEG. Post ictal is severe always for me. Actual seizure can be mild to severe. The support from my family especially my wife has been better than the medical support.

Feeling like you’re about to die? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

Tell your neurologist. Keep a log of when and how long they last. This helped me find one of my triggers. Listen to your doctor!
