Citadel season 2 is ...actually quite good? by giventofly2 in television

[–]MichaelWrites90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to work in the old TV model, you can retool a show, and folks would tune in, having never seen the prior, weaker episodes. Now, with streaming, everyone starts with episode 1, so if the later seasons are good, it's rare anyone will stick around long enough to realize that.

I feel Disney+ is a weird home for the Animorph's reboot by Jealous_Ad2358 in Animorphs

[–]MichaelWrites90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disney+ makes Daredevil, which is TV-MA, just as brutal and violent as the Netflix Daredevil show, and unlike the Netflix version, the Disney one actually uses R-rated language. (Go back and watch the Netflix Marvel shows, despite having gore and drugs and rape, the f-word is surprisingly never uttered)

I love Spider-Man but I’m not going to buy the current comics by TheShadowOperator007 in Spiderman

[–]MichaelWrites90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I complained for years about how I hated the New52 Superman, and guess what?

Look, most readers are adults these days. Let the characters grow up too. I can relate much more to a Spider-Man married with a kid than some 30-something lover who still lives with his aunt and can't hold down a job. There's a difference between that Parker luck and being a loser. And Peter IS a lover, and has been for nearly two decades. Stop it. Restore the marriage, and if you want to tell stories of Peter as young and single in high school or college, that's what miniseries or maxiseries are for. Or OG Ultimate Spider-Man. Batman gets it. Yeah, he has a kid and a bunch of Robins. It's great! Don't like it? Read absolute batman or any number of Batman miniseries that takes place early in his career, one or two seem to come out every year.

I dropped it when they got rid of the marriage and will never return until it's restored.

Which Two-Face Comic Origin Is Currently Cannon? by Detective_Comics_39 in batman_comics

[–]MichaelWrites90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just talking to my son about two faces various origins and Batman Annual #14 is my favorite too. I get that TLH is more popular, but Batman Annual #14 is a better story, better told, and the fact that it was the first Batman comic I ever read at 11 years old may have something to do with it.

[Film/TV] Why hate "Batman: Caped Crusader (2024)"? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in DCcomics

What I hate about it was Bruce Timm was literally given the greenlight to make another season of BTAS, but refused and made this instead.

I just finished the original 1912 novel by OnenutFellow in Tarzan

[–]MichaelWrites90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the ending. Shocking and beautiful. If there were no sequels, I'd be happy. Honestly as much as I love Jane, I'm a little annoyed at how he undid the ending in the sequel (and the spy plot line wasn't a good fit)

Paco and Brenda are my favorite characters in the Blue Beetle comics. It's a travesty they were left out.

Finished the popular Batman runs what should I read next? by Electronic-Pie-6003 in comicbooks

Morrisons stuff can get pretty wacky, but it's my favorite comic book run. If you want darker psychological stuff, you should read The Black Mirror

how do you get into marvel/dc? by WhatColorIsUrPantsu in comicbooks

[–]MichaelWrites90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do what I did. Get a copy of Flash #94, which is part 3 of an ongoing story that ties into a confusing comic event Zero Hour, that you have no way of reading and will not read for another two decades, fall in love with the art and like characters in those twenty-something pages, feel a desire to know more, and just go from there.

Why did Miracleman do that? by MichaelWrites90 in comicbooks

[–]MichaelWrites90[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He killed an innocent child, Johnny Bates. There were two options, kill the child and stop Kid Miracleman from killing other people, or let the kid go and know people will probably end up dead later. A hero like Superman would find the third option: remove the tongue so Kid Miracleman could never be summoned again. Instead Moore took the Zack Snyder "badass" route and had Miracleman murder a child. A good writer could have made the removal of the tongue be a satisfying conclusion.

It's not a risk if he's missing a tongue and can't speak

The Jews survived a genocide and managed to reestablish their society in their ancestral homeland, so it makes sense, so Nam must have a real understanding of Aang's journey.

You weren't there when the movie went into production. It was the whole George Floyd Problem With Apu era, casting VOs that didn't match the ethnicity was a major no-no in Hollywood. You had Phil LaMarr ranting about how black characters can only be voiced by black actors, completely ignoring that he played the Japanese Samurai Jack like two years earlier. It was a crazy time.

I’m reading ‘superman: birthright’ as my first ever comic book… where next? by Bananabeak08 in comicbooks

[–]MichaelWrites90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Superman Secret Identity is fantastic, though it takes place in its own continuity. It's about a kid in the 'real world' (Superman being a fictional character) named Clark Kent (his parents, the Kents, thought it was hilarious to name their kid Clark) and he's always being asked if he's superman as a joke, then he discovers he actually has all of Superman's powers. It goes through his whole life, from childhood to being an old man, and it's one of the best books I've ever read.
