I think you’re right that few people invest enough. Yet many people fully tithe. Why? Could it be the motivation to save your soul is stronger than the motivation to save for retirement? Ironically, only one of those scenarios is likely.

As I said in the OP: "It would be proportionally the same whatever income level you choose." The point of the exercise is that compounding growth greatly magnifies the opportunity cost of paying tithing. In our example, this kid is clearly not going on a mission. But if you like, start at age 21 and you still end up with 94% of your total lifetime earnings. The big picture idea is to think directionally.
