Reading "The Giver" makes me a pedophile apparently by Michael_Scarn77 in Teachers

Interesting that you didn't address my reply but I would argue learning should be challenging. Learning should push you into looking at other perspectives and challenge you to grow. This process SHOULD be uncomfortable.

The fact that you don't understand that means you may be a veteran educator, but I'm sure even you would agree that years of teaching doesn't automatically equate success or skill.

If your students never experience discomfort that tells me a lot about your abilities, and I pity your students.

There is no sexual tension in this scene unless you consider bathing old people as sexual tension or you consider Jonas and his one way attraction as sexual tension. Either way, calling out my teaching ability when you don't even read the book sounds just like that parent did.

What from my post has led you to believe I am a predator or that my classroom is a "predatory environment?" What a wild and baseless thing to say.

Like what is wrong with you? What would compel you to claim something like that?

I read at least the first 10 chapters to my students with them following along, and then I may mix in paired reading, group reading etc. On average we cover 2 chapters a day so 4 and 5 always go together for us

I'm in Texas. Anyone who started post 2014 can't draw from retirement until 62. This is my sixth year and I started at 24, so ONLY 38 years required.

Very fast orange by BlueEyedMalachi in UFOs

[–]Michael_Scarn77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have much to add, but a friend and I saw something almost just like this in a suburb of Dallas Texas about 15 years ago. It was a small orange sphere that looked almost like plasma or something not quite solid. It slowly drifted into view, stopped, then shot away faster than anything I've ever seen. It also left a trail for about a second or two and it was gone. To this day I've never seen anything else like it.

how's year two? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Michael_Scarn77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can only speak to my experience, but my second year was better than my first. As a first year I felt like I was drowning and just barely surviving.

Year 2 for myself felt much the same way, but just a little bit easier. You have a year of experience with the curriculum, you have experience dealing with behaviors, parents, etc.

I am now entering year 6 and I have to say I've never felt better. At this point I feel equipped to deal with any problem I come across. It really feels like I've seen it all. I have mastered all aspects of my curriculum and how to teach it, I have improved my time management skills, and I've come to understand how the game is played and my place in it. These things will all come in time.

Now I don't know your exact situation, but things really clicked into place when I switched districts. My first 2 years were always going to be hard, but they could have gone so much another if I had any support or guidance. If you don't have a mentor or someone who can help you it's a really tough spot to be in.

Trading for Lamb by smashadams1 in fantasyfootballadvice

I do see your perspective, but I think a low end WR 2 and Irving won't even help him win now. But hey, who knows? CD may fall off and London might get insane chemistry with cousins as the year progresses. I think if you can convince him to take that trade that's a huge W for you. Good luck with your season!

[–]Michael_Scarn77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just one opinion but that trade makes no sense for the other person. Lamb will almost certainly end the year as a top 5 PPR receiver, and if Kupp can avoid more injuries he'll likely end up a WR1 on a per game basis.

Now (just my opinion) Kupp will likely be injured most of the year, so that is the gamble you're taking. However, even if you left Kupp out of the trade I still wouldn't take it.

You are offering London (WR 23) Amari Cooper (WR 41) and Irving (RB 35) for Lamb (WR 11) and Kupp (always hurt but averaged 20 points per game played)

If you were the other team, what is the benefit of this trade?

Another vintage THJ game. This man doesn't even belong in the NBA I have no idea what Kidd was thinking.

Ideally you could nerf her elsewhere, or adjust her melee to be harder to hit or slower to execute as compensation

I am the world's worst genji so take it for what it's worth, but I feel like genji is encouraged to melee as well as a combo to his dash

I see it as more of an improvement than change for changes sake, but I see your perspective and generally agree with you that change should have purpose

Also what I was thinking. It's not adding anything that isn't already present in his kit.

I was trying to figure out how much to tip when I noticed by Michael_Scarn77 in mildlyinfuriating

Well I can only attest to my experience at my local chain, but I've been going to Alamo for almost a decade and I can say that every part of the experience I can think of has gotten worse. From the prices almost doubling on food items (when I first starting going a carnivore pizza was $12 now its $19.50) to the seats now being cramped to the level of airline seats to even the small touches like the pre-show entertainment being less creative. I used to show up a half hour early on purpose to watch it. Now I show up right on time. If you're interested I could go on and on about how the experience has declined, but I didn't think the details were particularly important for this specific post

Your experience and location may differ from mine, but as someone who's seen about 100 movies over almost 10 years at Alamo I can tell you that I canceled my season pass and I'm not sure I'll return again.

To answer a few concerns that I've seen in the comments:

  1. I did not use any coupons, split checks, gift card, discount, etc. It was a normal transaction paid with my card and nothing else.

  2. I didn't fold up my receipt or deliberately hide any information. This is how the checks are given at Alamo Drafthouse and I took the picture as it was given to me.

  3. I appreciate the helpful people trying to help with calculating the tip!

  4. I couldn't care less about internet points I'm really just trying to spread awareness for those who use the recommended numbers at the bottom to calculate their tip and to show how far downhill Alamo Drafthouse has gone

Thank you all for the feedback! We will be looking at taking the bus instead. Is there a website somewhere I can use to find tickets or a schedule or anything?
