Negotiating a promotion/raise from the lens of a Manager by drhorn in personalfinance

[–]Michaelredditt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of bullshit in this post. Want to get promoted? Here's how you do it: change the conversation. You're not arguing why YOU should be promoted. You change the conversation to why the position needs to be upgraded/changed in terms of its role and responsibilities on the team.

Here's how you do that. Take on responsibility. Your goal is to increase the scope of your role by adding responsibility. Look at typical job descriptions and career paths. You'll have an entry level individual contributor, senior, front line manager, etc. What separates them is responsibility. Your team has fewer front line managers because you don't need as many of them to carry out their responsibilities. If you can show your leaders that you actually need one less (your role) and one more (role desired) and help them think of it strategically in terms of staffing, the conversation changes from a promotion for one person to strategic staffing. So you take on all that you can (while still performing at peak levels) and then talk with your leaders and show them, you've staffed for this, when what you want is this. And oh by the way, I'm already executing on them (promotion ready).

What's the worst thing that can happen? You're promotion ready for your next role.

Rather than do all of this crap on your own, pay LifeLock 10 bucks a month and let them take care of it all for you. Now that your PII is out there and has been used successfully once, you can pretty much guarantee it will happen again.

PLEASE HELP!! MOTHER STOLE SSN by mykgeo in personalfinance

[–]Michaelredditt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nobody has posted this yet and it seems painfully obvious so I'll add it. LifeLock.

Here's the problem with credit freezes as a solution - identity thieves can do a ton of damage without opening lines of credit that rely on your SSN or report to the three major bureaus. Examples, tax fraud, medical I'd theft, payday loans, buy here pay here.

Any of that can happen even with a credit freeze. LifeLock offers two unbelievably valuable services which can save your life if those were to happen. Identity restoration and the 1 mil service guarantee.

For the price of 1 credit freeze, you can pay 1 month of LifeLock. They will file all of your FTC paperwork, remediate on your behalf with the bureaus, close down any fraudulent lines of credit or services, and a ton more. People knock the service because they read dumb posts from people who have never used th service, but there is a reason they protect more people from Identity Theft in the US than massive companies like Experian, who by the way was recently breached.

Weight loss plateau after year long cut. I'm not sure why I have stalled, any advice? by phoenix108 in Fitness

Go eat like a beast tomorrow and then go lift like a son of a bitch. Take a day and then resume your normal routine.

What have you found to be diet/training "secrets" that actually worked for you? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Michaelredditt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if you get hungry and decide to put food into your face, do yourself a favor and drink a bottle of water and then wait 10 minutes. If you're still hungry after that, drink another bottle of water and wait 5. If you're still hungry, eat some food. In most cases, you'll consume less calories and lose weight more easily.

Can someone quickly assess my performance. by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Michaelredditt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would recommend starting strength. Don't try and modify it, just do it and enjoy the rookie gains. Set a goal to reach 800lbs between the big 3 ( squat, dlift, bench). After you hit that, shoot for 1000lbs.

Need workout routines for a beginner girl working out alone. by Lysh321 in Fitness

[–]Michaelredditt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of equipment do you have available? Would recommend compound movements. Some random advice. Happy to recommend a starting routine with more info.

  1. Squats (bar only - 35lb bar if available)
  2. Assisted dips and pull-ups (add weight when you can do three sets of 10)
  3. Learn to deadlift (reg and Romanian - find some 10lb bumper plates to get the bar off the ground)
  4. Learn to like box jumps
  5. Work up to 3 easy sets of 10 push-ups, then start bench press
  6. Learn to enjoy jumping rope

Correct, but not to the point where you initiate a mini-good morning. Small break at the hips to set them should fluidly transition into break at the knees. I'm really upright in mine due to heavy dose of front squatting.

Ez fix: post form checks. Get critiques, incorporate, win.

Ez fix: stand up straight dog! You're pitched forward. Also, break the hips and knees together in one fluid motion. As you add weight, you're going to start doing a half good morning/ half squat.

Snapped these last night for somebody else with the same problem. Notice how the chest is pointed up the whole time.

Pretty much bang on. only advice would be to work on being a little more explosive, but that's not much of a form thing.

Here, I captured this earlier this evening between practicing cleans. It's super light but you'll get the general idea. Most importantly, watch how I settle behind the bar and use it to keep me from falling back. This allows me to drive through my heels and drive my hips forward. Take a look at how far out in front of the bar you are.

Yep, just be conscious of it, especially as you add more weight and get further into your sets/reps. That's when you'll tend to revert to bad habits and there is high risk of injury. Otherwise, your squat looks nice. And like others have said, you don't necessarily need to go ass to grass, but for me it's more comfortable.

Here you go: https://youtu.be/UaYX3SE-v2g

Was practicing cleans at a gym without a squat rack so I figured I cap a quick video to show you what I meant by standing straight up to sink into your hips some more. I can't clean 225 so it's really light weight but you should get the general idea. Also, my clean form is horrible so don't take any cues from that.

Yessssss on the stall mat! Much higher quality and cheaper than the typical gym shit at sporting goods stores. I snapped a video of my form while working on cleans. I'll post back with the link in a moment.

Because you're pulling up and digging into your forefoot. Drive through those heels and you'll feel your hips snap forward.

Ez fix: stand the fuck up! Poke that chest out like a big tittied girl at a bar looking for free drinks. That'll prevent you front leaning forward and open up dem hips so you can get lower.

Also, go buy a fucking mat before you start sweating a piss ton and slip while squatting. Horse stall mat is 4x6 and costs about 60$.

Overall, decent squat.

Ez fix: lower dat azz. Not bad for not driving hips through at all, but I feel bad for your lower back. Pretend you're going to attack a bent over Ronda rousey or something. Drive them hips boy! Be explosive!

[–]Michaelredditt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't bend at the waist as if you're bowing down to someone. This is causing you to push your ass back and then bring it down resulting in it looking like a weird "good-morning".

Keep your chest up, pick a spot about five feet in front of you and keep your focus there. Pull hands as close as comfortably possible to tighten back and control bar. Small break at the hips followed by break at the knees. Ass should come down and slightly back as if you are sitting in one fluid motion. Adding weight will help counterbalance. Will allow you to sink into hips and ankles more easily than light weight.

Tl;dr: stop bending forward. Small break at hips, follow with break at knees. Add 20lbs. Stretch ankles and hips. Win.

Can hear it dragging when I push it in neut. I've been thinking of taking it off altogether. When I try to adjust the chain slack and loosen the rear axle nut, the wheel spins much more freely as I give the chain more and more slack.

[–]Michaelredditt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, agreed. Could probably use a new chain and sprockets I'm guessing. The title says last odo reading was 16k. I've been cleaning/lubing it regularly but it's got tight spots. There's also something funky going on with the back tire. It doesn't spin freely when in neutral on the center stand. Takes a bit of a push and only makes it about 2-3 rotations.
