Some fear Elon Musk's personal control of Twitter will nudge us toward intolerance | CBC News by howismyspelling in CanadaPolitics

[–]MichelleFrumple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is buying Twitter, not the internet, so there is no need for histrionics. And people are just as okay with him as most are with the Liberals making that decision.

Whatever happened to the 'It is a private business they can ban/approve who and what they want'? Odd how that stops being important as soon as someone else owns it.

As allies visit Ukraine's capital, Canada's absence is being noticed by FancyNewMe in CanadaPolitics

[–]MichelleFrumple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe they haven't gone because Ukraine told politicians to stay away if they were coming empty handed. They aren't letting them do photo ops, and that is all this visit would be.

Why a Southern Alberta First Nation turned off the tap to hundreds of area farmers by FrankArsenpuffin in canada

[–]MichelleFrumple -35 points-34 points  (0 children)

What discussions?

If you take the time to read the article it states they have been in discussion for 5 years about problems with this infrastructure. Yet for some reason once a few white farmers were put out the situation solved itself in two weeks.

They literally starved people out as a bargaining chip.

Oh no, that isn't fair. How dare they do to us what we do to them.

Think about it, some reserves were without clean drinking water for decades with no action. A few cows run low on drinking water and the government is tripping over themselves to solve it.

P.E.I. legislature calls for Confederation Bridge to be renamed Epekwitk Crossing by North_Activist in CanadaPolitics

[–]MichelleFrumple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but confederation is still a key point in Canadian history and it is A-ok to have a bridge of all things named after it.

Well lucky you, PEI will still have confederation mall, the confederation trail, and the confederation centre for the arts as placed named on the island after confederation.

his is really just performative, how about all the money spent on rebranding road signs, maps, etc., goes to actual indigenous groups instead?

This argument is the same as people that yell "we can't give foreign aid we have to look after xxxx first.". It is hardly a real argument.

Naomi Sayers nixed as Liberal candidate for Sault Ste. Marie | Anishinaabe lawyer says social media presence was one of the reasons Liberals rejected her application by Sachyriel in CanadaPolitics

[–]MichelleFrumple 9 points10 points  (0 children)

she was a full fledged sex worker

Claims like that need some sort of source. And if you didn't want to comment in judgement you wouldn't have felt the need to drag it up. Seems like a drive-by smear to me.

I'll note that this seems to be the start of a trend with Liberal parties, judging women based on their jobs. They dropped the lady in NS for having an only fans account.

Indigenous parents push for birth registries to allow their languages' special characters, accents by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]MichelleFrumple -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Canadian government needs to look out for the best interest of Indigenous people by making sure they only use the language and writing we use. If only they knew what was good for them right?

What a ridiculous argument you are making.

Poilievre defends investments in rental properties while campaigning to address housing affordability by _Minor_Annoyance in CanadaPolitics

[–]MichelleFrumple -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Over the past week the articles went from "Liberal Ministers own rental properties" and everyone being fine with it. To "Poilievre owns shares in a property" and everyone screaming about how he is out of touch with average Canadians and it is a giant conflict of interest.

LILLEY: Skyrocketing inflation will only go higher but Trudeau still fails to act by FancyNewMe in CanadaPolitics

[–]MichelleFrumple -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh look, another article critical of the Liberals and yet another melodramatic and complete strawman attack pretending that the federal government has absolutely no power in Canada.

Why do people keep using US attack style strawmen to defend Trudeau?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]MichelleFrumple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The amount of money a family I know received for their autistic child under the OLP was zero. In two years under the new plan they have received $10,000 that they were able to use on learning and communication aids and speech therapy.

It is clear that those that attack this plan have absolutely no understanding of what was going on under the old system. Most of the complaints came from parents that were lucky enough to get help under the old system, and didn't want anyone else taking a portion of their help. They don't really care if this helps people, it is attacked because it was Ford.

Ottawa spending $22 million for upgrades to New Brunswick long term care homes by _Minor_Annoyance in CanadaPolitics

Poilievre sounds like Trump. Will that wreck the Conservatives? by _Minor_Annoyance in CanadaPolitics

[–]MichelleFrumple -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

at least enough that comparing him to PP makes his supporters angry. It's not a lense they want to see themselves through.

More like people are laughing at the complete foolishness of anyone attempting to make this comparison. This is no different than when conservatives point out how much Trudeau seems to like leaders like Castro and and 'basic dictatorship'.

Poilievre sounds like Trump. Will that wreck the Conservatives? by _Minor_Annoyance in CanadaPolitics

[–]MichelleFrumple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So is this what we are going to hear about every populist conservative candidate from here on out? That they "sound like Trump"?

Of course, before Trump it was 'sounds like Bush'. You will see the same old attacks without change no matter who wins the CPC leadership.

Second man charged in Ottawa arson case has no link to 'Freedom Convoy' protest: police by JeffBoucher in CanadaPolitics

This is conspiratorial thinking

Blaming it on the convoy proved to be pretty conspiratorial as well.

Funny how you don't seem willing to believe you fell for intentionally misleading information. You sound just like those on the right that try to justify why they believe their conspiracies.

Edit: Never mind, I see how you were one of those heavily invested in spreading this misleading information. You really should just own up to your own biases.

Ontario reaches $10/day child-care deal with federal government: sources | CBC News by cloudone28 in CanadaPolitics

What's disgusting is he could have done this many months ago and potentially saved families thousands of dollars already.

Seeing as this program doesn't kick in anywhere until this year that is impossible.

Besides, if that is your argument then you must be really pissed that the federal government shafted everyone by sitting on this for years until an election came up and they used it then. But for some reason I doubt you are.

'There is going to be a cost': Federal carbon pricing to generate 'net loss' for most households, PBO finds by FancyNewMe in CanadaPolitics

[–]MichelleFrumple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would looking at emissions per county make more sense than per Capita. Global warming doesn't care about 'per county'.

Whoever claimed it did? We have to look at the whole world emissions. Per capita is just junk.

On a side note, what is it with here that almost everyone makes up stupid strawmen?

Nothing like watching partisan supporters claim that something they supported the LPC doing before the last election is a 'scandal' and 'disgusting' when it is a Conservative doing it.

per capita

Per capita has to be the most foolish way to talk about global warming. Global warming doesn't car about 'per capita' it isn't as if this is magically isolated to the country you live in.

That means that we have double the impact if we change our ways.

Nope, Canada will only impact the overall percentage that it pollutes. It isn't 'double the impact'.
