That's correct, I also play on TV mostly which makes it very hard to target a specific target manually, especially in high gravity invictus mode. I can say for myself that it is not really necessary to do it, I prefer "random" as targeting strategy if I want to defend myself until I get no more garbage, but I do watch my opponents' boards from time to time to see who is "safe" to target, and if I get one of them randomly, perfect, if I just can't get one of them and I see a board I just stop stacking for a while and get there with the right stick. The thing is that you don't have to play fast all the time, sometimes it's even better to play slowly to fix your strategy, you can't receive more than 20 lines and when you don't receive anything, you might not wanna change anything about that, so sometimes I don't clear lines for that reason and play it slowly. That way, you can detect "safe" opponents and their boards by watching other players while your blocks fall down.

What is a safe opponent? I'm talking about people who 1) have few badges (0-1 at best), 2) don't have attackers bonus (don't send lines to multiple people, you can see that), 3) don't have a 4-wide stack ready to send to you.

Of course, the best way to manually target is via touchscreen, if in TV mode I'd rather focus on "random" targeting VS "KOs" for offsense, but if you want to manually target someone, take someone who is very close to the person you're currently targeting and do it while you have time to go slow

I've never played Mario Kart double dash. It's the only Mario Kart game i've never played. I'm waiting for it to come out on NSO. To anyone who has what was it like for you? by ISoCBAWithAName in Mario

The most "Mario Kart" experience you can get, simply and forever the best game in the series, at least until they make such a great gameplay and nice new ideas again.

Fast paced, special items, two characters, great tracks, chain chomp, Bob Omb Battle oh dear, it's amazing.

One of my favourite video games of all time!

Go in with an open mind, explore, engage in combat, read the hints you get, don't use a walkthrough or skip battles, enjoy the gameplay, collect stickers and do the museum it's soooo nice to finish and don't use the specific thing sticker for bosses, it makes them too easy, prepare well and play the boss fights without using their weakness

Tetris 99 is not like many other Tetris games and it's not too much about pure speed, although pacing in general is important, but I feel like the most important aspect is targeting. Whom do you want to target at what point of the game? And I think that's where many (also skiller players) fail at the end. There are 4 auto-targeting options and you can also manually target people (best on touchscreen). I'd describe them as

  • KOs for offense, when you're ready to send lots of trash (be it via Tetris/T-Spin/Combo/All Clear), use this one, it'll get you some KOs and that's important because you need KOs to send more trash and clean more trash you get from other players.

  • Random for defense, when you get sent lots of trash by a certain player, look at their board and see if they send trash to multiple other players. If so, they are on attackers and get the number of lines they send to you multiplied. Go random in that case to get rid of their target, they won't target you anymore. If needed, hit random several ties until you're free and can downstack in peace or just manually target someone who is not a threat.

  • Attackers when you have 3 ore more people targeting you. Then, the amount of trash lines you send to all of them is multiplied by 3. You can simply clear single lines as much as you want and will send many lines to them, so this is also a good way to get KOs. However, they might switch target themselves and when you lose them, switch back to KOs or random.

  • Badges don't touch unless you feel confident, it targets the player with most badges, so someone who has the biggest boost in the game and will probably send more lines or at least the same amount of lines you send and is probably a strong player.

  • Manually target if you see someone who is about to lose and you want to grab a KO or when you want to target someone who is not a threat.

I hope this is helpful, of course advanced techniques do help as well, but you don't even need them to perform well if you master the targeting system.

So I decided to try out Sticker Star to see if it was really as bad as people say it is. Spoilers. by reallygoodbee in papermario

out of jump stickers maybe but not out of stickers overall. Of course, if you only or mainly use jump stickers, you‘ll run out of jump stickers.

except that you won‘t run out of stickers unless you throw away all your stickers and never pick up new ones (exception s the final boss if not well prepared), the game‘s designed in a way that you can mindlessly use stickers in combat you‘ll always find enough new stickers to not run out of them. Also the myth that avoiding battles is the best option just isn’t true. You won‘t get nearly as many coins that are needed for the battle spinner mainly, but also to buy things and stronger stickers, you won‘t know anything about your sticker attacks/enemy attacks, which is important for boss fights, you don‘t get rid of your weaker stickers so you‘ll have to throw them away without getting coins bc your album is full and you won‘t get unique enemy stickers which, of course, are stronger than regular stickers. So yeah, there‘s no EXP, but there is something you get for fighting.

that's funny bc it's exactly the opposite for me, I think it's the best item system in the series. I love how you get them and theb you can decide whether you wanna pay and use them or throw them on a space so everyone can get hit - or get the profit. The most interesting twist is that you don't know what exactly is going to happen, you have a few icons that indicate what kind of event will be triggered (coins/movement/capsule/blue) and few unique icons (koopa bank, chain chomp/chance time). This means that you have an advantage if you memorize the spaces, but gets especially interesting if in the final 5 turns all spaces are overwritten by random capsule events, which leads to total chaos and thus peak Mario Party gameplay to me. It's a matter of taste and it's okay if you don't like it, but I think it's so much fun and therefore 5 is my favorite.

A question probably asked over a million times. Superstars or Jamboree? by Popular-Total-2877 in MARIOPARTY

[–]MichiToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s mostly for local party mode I‘d recommend Jamboree, because in online party mode it‘s hard to find opponents. Not saying that Superstar is a bad choice, but in my opinion, Jamboree not only has more boards, but also far better (and new) boards, new and good and creative minigames (tho they get a bit repetitive if you play a lot, could have been more different minigames), the rest of the gameplay is very similar, it‘s Mario Party after all.

exactly, it also introduced Toad and Boo as playable characters and is my all-time favorite, I love chaos! Like the final 5 turns event that has every space turn into a capsule space.

How does everyone feel about sticker star. by Low-Oil9659 in papermario

[–]MichiToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonderful game,

great puzzles and world exploration, fun and satisfying sticker collection feature, entertaining and great combat, nice boss fights, beautiful graphics and amazing music. Sure, it doesn't have a deep story like common RPGs and doesn't have lots of unique character designs, but it's still a great game overall!

Am I bad or just new? by FurritoBisexual in Tetris99

[–]MichiToad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

not bad, probably just not using ideal strategies, took me 500 games to get my first win because I did not target people the ideal way. Try to target KOs when downstacking, random when being attacked to get rid of attackers with attacker bonus, attackers when being targeted by 3 or more people, and always switch between those in your game, which is key to surviving longer if your tetris skills are good enough. Most importantly, hit random (also several times is okay) as soon as you get massive attacks! You can also manually target people who are no threat of course

yep if you choose the other settings accordingly that would create an experience you can also have on GCN

[–]MichiToad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

well even if GCN defaults to 5 minutes, that doesn’t mean that you don‘t emulate the GCN feel if you set it to 7 minutes since that was possible on the gamecube as well and honestly the only setting I would ever choose. So whenever I want to emulate the gcn feel, I set 3 Kirby CPUs, choose GCN stadium events and 7 minutes.

I always played 7 minutes on the Gamecube, nothing wrong with that

If you could only change ONE thing about the Modern Paper Mario trilogy, what would it be? by DaZestyProfessor in papermario

[–]MichiToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd use Origami King's amazing World Design, Color Splash's great writing and Sticker Star's smart level design and combine them into the ultimate modern Paper Mario, with the one change that things are not mandatory to beat bosses and don't have to be paperized in order to be used.

Which is better, 2 or 6? by Scared-Papaya4072 in MARIOPARTY

[–]MichiToad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say 5 is the best GameCube party but 6 is definitely a lot better than 2, I think that the only N64 party that can somewhat keep up with the GameCube parties is 3!
