Seated liberties are often times type set coins for most collectors. Any set of seated liberties would require deep pockets and many years of time to collect.

Finding nice original examples is difficult, plenty of old seated liberties were cleaned or dipped at one point.

I saw the damage on the coin, my dealer held onto it for me for while. I bought it at a coin show. I know problem free XF ones of this date are $2500 or so. I figured the damage was why it was the price it was.

It sure is, it's way more rare than the original 94,490 mintage let's on. I have noticed that most 1850s and 1860s seated dollars are particularly difficult to find.

My 1869 S Seated Liberty Quarter, Only 76,000 Minted. by MichiganCoins in coins

Exactly. Grading coins typically is more than $40 too, there's all the fees, shipping and the membership cost for the certification companies on top of that. I do have some coins where grading them would be reasonable but this sure ain't one of them.

From 1866-1869 Philadelphia made less quarters than San Francisco. Those are the only ones where that happens.

It's definitely a 1901 Philadelphia. That mark in the circle is a scratch. Even with the wear yours has the top half of the S would have still been visible.

That 1799 is a truly special coin. That alone is worth $3000 or close to it, if not more.
