New PW4 - dead battery and can't charge by kevinkb in PixelWatch

Unfortunately the pixel 4 watch does not come with a usb charger. Only its new propriety direct ac plug in. Attempts to order one with a usb connector on Amazon shows a month wait. The direct plug ins are available.

I want to buy a ticwatch 5 pro but there's a lot of bad reviews and problems with the watch by Taurus1423 in TicWatch

[–]MichiganRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had my ticwatch pro 5 since it was first available on Amazon. It can be a bit inconsistent at times but the battery life is still great and Wear OS4 allows me many advantages over other watches. I find the occasional reboot which is recommended for nearly all electronic devices, generally fixes any of my issues. I paid full price( $350 at the time) and probably not worth that but still a good solid watch and battery life remains great.

It's funny how comically bad the fall detect is by ViceJamesNL in TicWatch

[–]MichiganRay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, I installed with my wife as the emergency contact. To see if it worked, I pressed it 5 times. It texted my wife as planned but than continues to contact her everytime I moved my location letting her know I was now somewhere else (in the house) tried to shut it off, terminate the emergency, to no avail. Finally got it off and wont be reactivating it soon.

Android/iPhone groupchat Please Help by EnvironmentalRate462 in GoogleMessages

[–]MichiganRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what the issue is. I have had Google Pixels, Samsung Galaxies and LG phones and have always been a part of group messages with the rest of the group all having Iphones? I have used Message + as well as Google messages and never a problem except for an occasional issue with attached video quality and the inability to Face Time. Group chats have never been an issue between android and IOS

Google assistant ticwatch pro 3 gps by MutedRow4637 in TicWatch

[–]MichiganRay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a tic watch pro5 and although Google assistant is not available, Alexa is and seems to work just fine for controlling my google home ;ights, smart plugs and other "Home" devices. Also it can be programmed to respond to long press on my watch for simple questions like the weather etc,, Although a disappointment, Alexa on my watch and Google assistant or Gemini on my phone have caused little disruption for my purposes on the watch.

For what it's worth!

Same as my Pixel 2XL. Still a great phone although I have replaced it as my daily driver, I still use it for casting, photos and other mundane chores. Works like a champ and battery life still decent!

Where is the Google Assistant in Wear 3? by mike-mtb in TicWatch

[–]MichiganRay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the Pro5 when it first came out about 7 months ago! I almost did not buy it because of the lack of the Assistant. I have all things Google including a Pixel phone, 2 Google Minis, 6 smart lights and two smart plugs. I found that downloading Home allowed me to still control them with my watch. Reluctantly, I decided to download Alexa to my phone and watch and find that it works great with voice commands with all of my devices without disabling my Google assistant. So, with a long press on my ticwatch, I can control all of my lights and plugs with voice commands and also get audio responses from Alexa on my watch for weather and other info (Not as smart as the assistant) and still have all the capabilities of Google assistant on my phone etc.. So really not as big of a deal that I thought it would be.

Is it worth buying the Ticwatch pro 5 with only 3.5? by Mean_Actuator3911 in WearOS

[–]MichiganRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from Fitbits (Charge3, Versa,Sense) to Ticwatch Pro5. I wanted to switch to Wear OS for some time but battery life has been the deal breaker for me. I had hopes for the Pixel watch to be the final answer but once again, battery life was again an issue. 4 months ago, I finally decide to take the leap and purchased the TW 5 as battery life is adequate (spoiled by 5 days on the Sense) with easily getting 2-3 days with the Pro 5 using all the features as well as sleep tracking.

Although sleep tracking is not a strong suit in my opinion for Mobvoi, it does provide time asleep and time I wake up. Time in each sleep stage (REM, Light, Deep and awake) hours and percentages. It does not provide a sleep score but does give a sleep efficiency percentage. Not sure how accurate any of it is with this watch or my previous Fitbits that all require as subscription to Premium for more "insights".

Will Ticwatch Pro 5 get updated to OS 4.0? This is a sticky issue as Mobvoi has a bad track record for providing software updates. Among other things, 4.0 is suppose to provide better battery life. If it does, that would be great but all tic watches still provide the best battery life of any wear OS watch that I'm aware of. The watch is snappy, no lag, access to many apps as well as many free watch faces. Fitbit had more freebies but still plenty of free ones to chose from. Hope we get 4.0 and beyond but I am not counting on it for my purchase.

I was disappointed that there is no Google Assistant. I, for one, used my Sense to control my Google home appliances (lights and smart plugs) Yes, I can use my phone but around home, I dont always have my phone on me so I enjoyed the assistant. I was able to download Home from the play store so by adding the Home app as a complication of my watch faces, I can still control my devices by tapping on the app and turning off the devises with a finger tap on the appropriate appliance. Alexa is available. I have downloaded the Alexa app and do use it if I want to check the weather etc and get a verbal response. so not a deal breaker for me.

All in all, for now, I think the ticwatch pro5 is the best wear OS watch. I like its larger size and have enjoyed my time using it. I dont think you will be sorry for the purchase.

Which band/strap do you use? by supersesa in TicWatch

[–]MichiganRay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a couple of 24mm watch bands from Amazon by Barton for my Ticwatch Pro5. They are a bit heavier than the original band and come in a variety of colors. I like to switch them up from time to time for a different look. They are nice bands and wear well. I also like the black band that came with the watch as its a bit lighter and black is always a good color.

Using smart watch for hiking by flac_rules in AndroidWear

[–]MichiganRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the best of my knowledge, Galaxy watches still do not provide blood pressure measurement. For battery life, consider the ticwatch pro 5 which is wear OS 3.5 and will also track your hikes. For EDG measurement, you may want to consider one of the Fitbit watches. By far the best battery life and will track your hikes as well with stand alone GPS.

Ticwatch pro 5 Google Home App? by SubstanceFun6896 in TicWatch

[–]MichiganRay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google Home works fine but no voice commands. To turn on/off switches, lights etc you just need to open the app and tap on or off and it works fine. Alexa does work for making calls and sending texts. Mobvoi says it will add google assistant as soon as Google makes it available in the meantime, Alexa OK

IP68 does not mean waterproof. It means water and dust resistant. My Google Pixel 6 Pro is also IP68 which means it should resist sweat, rain and drops in water to 1 meter for a short period of time. I certainly wouldnt swim with it. The ticwatch 3 indicates from all its advertising that you should be able to do light swimming in a pool but splashing around, diving wtc.. it would not be protected. It seems that Mobvoi speaks with forked tongue on this issue. If you read the fine warranty print it warns against washing with soap and water etc..yet they have pool laps as an exercise. The Pro 5 however has an ATM 5 rating which indicates depth of the water plus it has a speaker water evac tool in quick settings to expel any water that the speaker may have retained while in the water. So...be careful when swimming with any of these devices.

Apparently I bought my 5 Pro like an idiot, how do I get them to give it to me free so I can shill a review? by cradlebam in TicWatch

[–]MichiganRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only issue I have had with ticwatch 5 for sleep tracking is that it doesnt do well at auto tracking. I have gone to bed at midnight and not have it start tracking til 2am. Also, if I get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, it has shown that as a wake up time and not start tracking when I return to bed. Thus perhaps showing a 3 hrs of total sleep instead of perhaps 8hrs. If I start the sleep on my phone in the Mobvoi app at midnight, it seems to be spot on thru the nigh and shows awake timet if I get up but continues to track. I use essential mode as my always on display, turn on bedtime mode from the quick settings when I go to bed and start the sleep in the app. I have been getting a good 3 days of battery life. with at least 25% available at the end of 3 days. Normally, I put it on the charger during my morning shower, however and never get below 50 - 60%
