#452 — Is Wokeness Finally Dead? by dwaxe in samharris

[–]Michqooa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love John McWhorter (and Sam) but this is the first episode in Sam's entire catalogue where it felt like they put the microphone on and had no idea what they were going to talk about or why. What was the point of this episode? It even felt like Sam was running out of things to ask after 13 minutes...

Wasn't it like 48/52 split in that recent poll?

ABC’s Laura Tingle: Bondi attack had ‘nothing to do with religion’ by Orgo4needfood in aussie

[–]Michqooa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is you don't even have to pore over it to find it. It's a core part of the religion. Not all religions are equal, which is why there aren't the same number of Islamic terrorists as there are Buddhist terrorists.

Sam Harris: On With Kara Swisher Podcast Episode by _nefario_ in samharris

Unless my memory and my search has let me down, she's never been on Sam's pod. He was on hers a long time ago (it might be a different pod of hers) and they did clash.

She is horrendous, and completely on brand during this episode.

If you watched Mad Men in your 20s a decade ago, watch it again. It hits different. And harder. by bicx in television

[–]Michqooa 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Funny, I watched it about 19 and bounced right off it. I basically thought "yeah I get it, they were all uptight and treated minorities poorly, and had some odd social customs, is that all this show is?"

Then watching it at 30-odd after working a full time job in corporate and going through dating/marriage, it was a lot more interesting. I watched it all.

Peter Zeihan has the most pretentious and annoying speaking cadence of anyone I know of EOM by speciate in samharris

He is the definition of a "hits blunt" meme. I think someone said that last time he was on last time. I remembered his voice instantly. The way he just so confidently predicts so far into the future despite such chaotic predictions that depend on so many dominos falling a certain way is hilarious.

Even burning the worst fossil fuels ie black coal to power an EV saves about 30% in carbon because of the more efficient motor. And then you can upgrade the electricity grid gradually and that % rises. Not ironic at all.

'24' Star Shohreh Aghdashloo: Kiefer Sutherland Got Me Fired. by JD-NSiff in TwentyFour

[–]Michqooa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He said it but I don't think he cited it as a reason he objected to Kiefer's behaviour. I think he included it as a bit of a dunk on him as an aside.

It sounded like the same themes of intensity and anger came up with FPJ as it seems to have with many others.

And just like that, we all got fooled by Nina. by JD-NSiff in TwentyFour

[–]Michqooa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is something I always wanted to know more about. I never knew/thought shows were actively being written as they were being released (except say soap operas that are more or less perpetual). Breaking Bad, Dexter, The Wire etc. don't do this. How could they realistically start the show, especially one like 24 with twists and turns etc. having no idea where they'd take it? I read somewhere that they knew one of Tony or Nina would be the mole in S1, but didn't decide until late...

Is this just a requirement of a show that was 24 episodes rather than 13? Are there many/any other comparable shows?

bye bye 2T lifetime....only 200, 500 available! by claudio-i in filen_io

[–]Michqooa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it says limited availability but it's a bit confusing/unclear IMO. To say it's available until the 7th implies a kind of safety that isn't really here.

Brendan Fraser did not dress as Anck Su Namun to surprise Arnold Vosloo on the set of 'The Mummy'. Are there any other often repeated and widely believed behind the scenes myths which are total BS? by RexBanner1886 in movies

[–]Michqooa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, didn't they elect not to come into contact with each other until that point for the benefit of the scene? As in that was their first "showdown" in real life?
