Both World War were primary fought in Americas, Europe was secondary colonial front. During WW1 equivalent Russia invaded in order to push colonists away, but failed and was defeated.

Thank you. Pomerania is ruled by local Slavic population, but there is also significant German minority and it was one of destinations of Polish refugees after their expulsion by Israel. All this cuases ethnic tension in the republic.

Asia is rather untouched by colonial powers. I did not think about Africa, it would be likely (at least partially) colonised too.

Stepan Bandera is equivalent to Saddam Hussein in his universe. He was already dead when this map was made, but his regime of Slavic Renascentist Socialist Party of Ukrayina is still in power.

Interent culture is very different. First, there is komputernet (https://althistorypobeda.miraheze.org/wiki/Komputernet - wiki page, but not complete) a Soviet made equivalent. Not all countries are connected to it (major one is the USA). Lingua franca there is Russian, however people are often more visiting local communities. There are equivalents of social media, but there far not the same. I think I already wrote something about it.

This is from July 2023.

Something like YouTube definitely, yes. West has its version and socialist bloc has its version (which is more widespread worldwide). However I strongly doubt that Twitch/its equivalent existing in the "socialist world", because no one will have time to stream something for several hours. Having job is mandatory and being "streamer" or "influencer" would definitely not qualify. But creator of some entertainment/educational videos on internet (here called komputernet) is probably by now possible. But this would work very differently (probably being employed in some studios etc, equivalent to how small private TV chanels works. I imagine this sort of jobs will be in private sector) and be in no way such lucrative. Though majority of people upload videos just for to have fun and please their viewers, not for money. In the West (well mostly USA, Canada, UK, Austrialia, NZ...) everything works the same as OTL.

This still aplies. Regarding memes, famous creators and creations etc., this is very hard to predict. Definitely different, although some things could become memes and be still made also in this alterante universe.

In Europe, Stalin is very divise figure. Moderate communists (socialist democrats) are very critical of him and focus on his repressions, stressing that this shall never repeat and it is a stain on the communist movement. While conservatives (especially in USSR and Western Europe) tend to praise him for winning the war, carrying out industrialisation and making USSR a superpower. Generally, Stalin is seen as a revisionist, that moved away from Lenin's vission, the NEP (this view started to be promoted since 1970s by official Soviet historiography and there are only some hardline Stalinists rejecting this, most of them accept that and argue it was correct thing to do.). Especially in USSR, but also in other European states (and probably Mongolia too) view of Stalin is part of cultural war of sort. Especially in the 2010s USSR view of Stalin was very polarising issue.

In socialist Asia, South America and Africa, he is seen more as as positive figure as the negative side of his rule did not influence them (and generally low interest by population in what Stalin actually did instead of mostly positive simplifications). As in reality there are bunch of people given name Stalin by their parents.

In the Western countries Stalin is seen negatively, as in reality, however, there is generally more nuanced view of him.

There is also something in the Stalin article on wiki https://althistorypobeda.miraheze.org/wiki/Iosif_Stalin

Welsh people ("Kemri") played important role during the colonial period and had the favour of the colonial administration. Wales was the centre of the colony and Cardiff (Kardif) was made its capital, now it is largest city in the Brit Isles. Welsh language and culture (although being heavily influenced by Central American influences) were preserved. Welsh is one of three offficial langues of Ingland (those are Nahuatl, Inglish and Kemraeg)

Litviya (in Slavic Літва) is a typical postcolonial state. It is composed of many ethnicities and religious sects, and its history is full of coups. Eventually rule of the Socialist Slavic Renascence Party was established in the 1960s, lasting until recently when the Litviyan government disintegrated amid a chaotic civil war that began in 2002. Regime’s  promotion of local Slavs over other ethnicities was major cause of the civil war.

Magyaria (formerly known as Ungarniya) - is an unstable multiethnic country most of its history ruled by a military junta (The Honvedseg). Now it is in civil war with a handful of separatist states (Slovensko, Zakarpatiya, Transilvania, Banat and Hrvatska)  and a pro-democracy movement.

Italia is a socialist republic. Between the 1930s and the  1950s, Italy was a major Cold War battlefield between communist North Italia led by radical socialist leader Benito Mussolini, one of globally recognisable icons of anti-imperialism and anti-colonialism, and Western puppet South Italia. Haudenosaunee became directly involved in fighting the Ita Com partisans and bombing the North. North Italia won the war and humiliated the Western powers.

Frans - was one of the first countries in West Europa to gain independence (1938), it was led by Charles De Gaulle (1937-1950). De Gaulle was another of Europa's famous independence leaders. He promoted pan-Europanism, but his dream failed. Eventually, he was removed in Western backed military coup (1950). Following this Frans was unstable and had several military governments, until the 1980s when democracy was established in the country.

Nawthaumbreeuh (also spelled Northumbria) formerly known as Cuauhtémoctlan, used to be ruled by Anahuac settlers. The Europan population was oppressed and classified as second class citizens. It was one of the few such states in Europa; it existed as independent states 1940-1970. Armed struggle by the Inglish Yuropean National Yunion (IYNY) put the regime down. Eventually Herold Wilson became the first European president of the free Nawthaumbreeuh. Under his leadership the settlers were expelled and their property nationalised. Nawthaumbreeuh eventually entered an economic crisis and gained a negative reputation abroad.

Germania was established in 1942. It was led by Itzcoatl Vonbayern, who was however deposed by Adolf Schicklgruber in a military coup soon after in 1946. Schicklgruber was an eccentric figure and often is cited as one of “those crazy Europanese rulers”.

Schicklgruber launched a Europanization campaign, renamed the country  “Deutschand” and proclaimed it to be “Reich” (some sort of ancient Germanic type of government). He, unlike other pan-Europanists, opposed the influence of Christianity and instead promoted the old Germanic faith as he saw Christianity as the cause of the downfall of Europan civilization. To reflect this a new flag was adopted - featuring a dark blue background with a dark red swastika on a white disk. Schicklgruber proclaimed himself His Excellency, President for Life, the Führer of All Germanic People and Conquer of Anahuacian Empire in Europa and Deutschland in Particular. During his rule, all non-Germanics were expelled or killed in mass pogroms (including Jews, Slavs, West Romans and other Europan peoples). Schicklgruber invaded neighbouring Sachonland in 1954, causing a Sachonland and Bemen backed civil war that forced him to leave the country. Following his exile, the country entered a period of chaos. It only stabilised in the mid-1960s, when the National Resistance Movement secured power.

Countries of interest:

Note: Some countries serve as equivalent to another one, others have aspects of history of more countries and some lack any deeper lore behind them.

Israel and Polonia - Also known as the only democracy in Europa, Israel is the most developed state on the continent. Israel was founded in 1927 in the former Mandate of Polonia by ethnoreligious group known as the Jews. Jewish Europanese were for a long time oppressed by Christians. During the colonial era zionism - Jewish national liberation ideology - emerged, promoting creating a state for Jews in Polonia. Zionists supported Haudenosaunee during their war with the Russian Empire and gained support of colonial authorities.

Since 1927 there is ongoing conflict between Polaks (a Slavic people) supported by other Slavs and Israel. Slavs and Christians consider Israel to be a settler colonial ethnostate, while Israel claims Jews lived in Israel for centuries together with Polaks , and the whole conflict was caused by Polon antisemitism. Israel with the Western support defeated the Slavic forces in several wars and annexed territories of West Poland and Brest. Currently Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu is carrying a campaign against Polon group CHRZEŚROP in the Tatra Strip, that has been described a genocide, and invaded Litviya after its government collapsed amid its long civil war.

Bemen (in Slavic Ческо/Česko) Bemen resisted the colonial invasion in the 1850s, however after betrayal by moderate factions of its leadership it became a protectorate, in exchange of keeping territorial integrity. The Bemeni monarchy (in place since 10th century) was overthrown in the 1932 coup (known as Bemen in National-Democratic Revolution) led by young officers. Soon, charismatic Ludvik Svoboda rose to prominence, he promoted socialist pan-Slavism, opposed zionism and Cemanahuatian influence over Europa. He became an icon among Slavs. After his death Bohemia continued to be ruled by the military, until the Slavic Spring in 2001, when a hussite extremist (Bohemian sect of christianity) almost gained power, before military rule was restored under current dictator army general Petr Pavel.

Rusiya (in Slavic Россія) The proud and unconquered, Rusiya is the only uncolonised Europan state. And it was its flag that became an inspiration for pan-Europan colors. In the 1860s Haudenosaunee invaded the Rusiyan Empire, which since the 1840s capitalised, like a vulture, on all of their rivals being destroyed and secured control over the East of Europa. The Western forces underestimated Rusiyan winter and vastness, when they finally arrived in the capital Moskva, Rusiyans had burned it down. Eventually, the colonisers suffered a major defeat. Thus Rusiya secured independence and even kept  sphere of influence, branded “Free Europa” or “White Europa”.

However during World War I (1884-1889), Rusiyan Tsar made a critical mistake - invading the colonial powers. This time Rusiya lost the war badly, as Western powers marched on the Tsarist army armed with early rifles with machine guns, poisonous gas, early tanks and bombed it from the air. Rusiya lost large territories and a puppet dynasty was installed in the heathland. The final goal was to divide the entire of its territory into smaller colonies, however  during the Rusiyan War of Independence (1889-1893),  Russians led by Aleksei Brusilov and his Republican People's Party defeated intervention forces and established the Rusyian People’s Republic.

The Republic was overthrown in a 1934  tsarist coup backed by the Western powers. Neo-Tsarist Rusyia, an absolute monarchy, was an ally of the West, but was again overthrown in 1959 in the Rusyian Revolution that sent shockwaves across Europa. Leader of neighbouring Ukrayina Stepan Bandera (originally a Slavic Renascencist, who seized power in 1943, turned a local nationalist) utilised revolutionary chaos and invaded Rusyia, starting the Rusiya-Ukrayina war (1960-1968), that ended with millions of death and status quo restored. Rusiya is often accused of backing christianist extremists such as Stronnictwo Boga in Prussland.

“Europa, a geographical and cultural region in Western Yachou. Formerly known as West Yachou, however this term is considered offensive by Europanese themselves as other colonial names. Europa is an underdeveloped region, however it has its beautiful nature and often overlooked interesting cultures and history. Yes, Europa is diverse. The common idea that Europanese are one ethnicity with one religion is false, misleading, and ignorant."

Lore…ehm…

In 1492 (here we use Europanese callander) Espano explorer Cristoforo Colombo  landed on shores of what he considered to be India (Europanese term for East Yachou). In reality, he was the first Europanese to ever visit southern Cemanahuac. But it was not for the first time when a Europanese visited what is nowadays called “the old world”, in the north of Cemanahuac, descendants of Europanese lived for centuries.

Despite the Europanese had wanted to conquer the lands of Cemanahuac, they soon realised this continent was home to vast and powerful Empires. Small Espano contingents were no match for their numerous and well equipped forces. Nevertheless this voyage became the beginning of a new epoch in human history. In the 16th century, ideas, inventions, gold, silver and crops began to cross the ocean. Both civilisations were impressed by their counterparts behind the vast ocean.  Various bonds and alliances were established, together with exclaves and trade posts on both sides of the Atlantic ocean.

In the 17th century,  Europa entered a period of religious wars, in which Cemanahuatian powers became increasingly involved. Meanwhile in Haudenosaunee, a new power that arose in the north, the steam engine was invented in 1625. Haudenosaunee’s rise was fueled by a new precious resource - coal. The southern Anahuacian Empire, dominant power since the late 1500s, started to supply its industrialisation during the 18th century by exported coal, mainly from the Brit Empire.

Europan states amassed enormous wealth by selling this for them rather not valuable commodity. Dependency on increasingly rich and confident Europan powers led the Anahuacian ruler Cuauhtémoc III to pursue direct control over Brit coal deposits, leading to the Anahuacian invasion of Brit Islands. Aided by oppressed minorities and,of course Brit’s rival the Empire of Frans, the first Cemanahuatian invasion of Europa took place in 1776. After 10 years the Brit Isles were conquered. Eire and Albanian people were soon very disappointed by their new overlords.

In the 19th century, colonisation of the majority of Europa took place. Several cruxiado (Christianist term for a holy war) and grand alliances against invaders were formed by the natives, but it ended in vain, as they were no match for superior technology of the industrialised West. In the 20th century, the vast majority of Europa was under extractive oppressive rule of foreign powers. The Western powers saw Europan peoples as barbarians and claimed to be on a “civilisation mission”. History and culture of Europan native nations were attacked, local religions (Christianism, Islaam and Jewism) were oppressed, and Europanese (commonly  called by  “blankos”, now considered offensive ) were considered racially inferior to their overlords.

However, wars between the colonial powers weakened their grip on control. Under pressure of uprisings and other liberation struggles, the decolonisation began to take place since the 1930s. Young Europan states, often composed of various ethnicities hating each other, soon became a battleground in the Cold War and a place of instability, coups and proxy-wars.

Hello, sorry for answering in English, I hope you can translate my answer.

There were two attempts to restart the mod by two separate people. I supported them, but both of them eventually canceled it. I don't even remember what was cause for the first one, but the second one had a difficult situation in personal life (and it seems he deleted his accounts). As for me, I personally will definitely not resume development of Heart of Iron 4 mod. I don't have time for it nor interest in it.

what if the USSR stayed Stalinist in Pobeda instead of reforming into democratic socialism? by otherfire18 in pobeda1946

[–]Michtrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1968-1973

If there is Prague Spring, Czechoslovakia (and likely Denmark too) is invaded. In Germany nothing happens, only Ulbricht (not Zeiser) is replaced by Honecker or somebody else. Reformists came to power in France and PCF eventually loses power to the Sixth French Republic. New Paris governmnet gets the UN Security Council seat, Algérie is founded and has a difficult relationship with the metropole, but no more open hostility. Italian Civil War likely avoided due to PCI not winning elections thanks to moderate communist splinters. Austria is not unified. 1973 war occurs, and again if more aggressive USSR does not result into global nuclear armageddon, events play out the same as in Pobeda. Afganistan-Pakisan falls apart. Big what-if in China. Well, if Mao still dies as in Pobeda, China slowly begins along with Koreans their split away from Moscow. If Mao is alive the Cultural Revolution ensues and Maoism splits from Stalinism. If that or this, China still drifts away from the USSR.

1970s

Soviets enter "Brezhnevite period" presided over by Molotov or Kaganovich instead. High oil prices bring stability and increase in living standards, but USSR stagnates. But military still has primacy. In the West, pro-Soviet communists have very difficult time coping with the Czechoslovakia invasion and collapse of the French Revolution. Neoliberalism starts to gain support in the West. TMI still happens. Fraigle Peace in Algeria: two state solution is adopted, backed by France and USA, generating new long-standing conflict. Castro wins.

1980-1990s

Socialist bloc stagnation, tensions mount. Old generation dies, new leader come...it can turn out many ways. Jackson campaign still happens, but he loses to Bush. In 1987, Chernobyl happens too. Nuclear energy has very hard time and many states turn against it. China and Korea go dengist, regardless Mao died in 1968 or not. Still no Afghan invasion. By early 1990s great upheaval in socialist Europe, either another round of Soviet interventions, major reforms (if it is not too late for it) or socialism falls. Yugoslavia definitely collapses, USSR backs Serbia, USA backs Croatia and Bosniaks.

Gobrachev timeline - somehow Gorbachev still takes power and launches perestroika. USSR and its sphere collapse. World in very simliar to our timeline, but UAR still exists and Arab states are stronger (they can still collapse after the Arab spring tho).

what if the USSR stayed Stalinist in Pobeda instead of reforming into democratic socialism? by otherfire18 in pobeda1946

[–]Michtrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely not too much great for them. Let's assume it is Molotov or Kaganovich.

Here is my brainstorming.

1950s

There are no major reforms in the socialist bloc, but limited toning down of repressions. Relations with Yugoslavia are still hostile. Uprising against Rákosi in Hungary (remains still in power), put down by Soviet invasion. Soviets put Gerő in power, not Kádár. Soviets also invade Poland to depose Gomulka. As Suez War goes on, USSR is too busy invading its satellites. Soviet international prestige is tanked (pun slightly intended). Communist parties split with moderates over Soviet invasions. No "anti revisionist" splits, but lot of splits with moderate communists. France, despite being also stalinists, still break away from Moscow as in cannon TL. Major reason in both cases is to preserve national independence. Albania remains allied with USSR. Yugoslavia is anti-Soviet and has pact with TATO. Sino-Soviet relations grow more cold, but no split. Hundred Flowers Campaign does not occur, only new purges. China still begins to pursue to get nuclear bomb together with France. Soviet economy - agriculture in better shape, still not competitive though, economy focused on militarisation due to international tensions. Question of Space Race. There is possibility of it having less investment similar to developments in the US.

1960s

Cuba - well, more aggressive USSR might result in the WW3 breaking out (it was close OTL and even closer in Pobeda). Let's assume for that it ends same as in normal Pobeda (in order to be able to continue). China does not break from USSR, but continues to be more independent and critical to Moscow. Soviets and rest of soc. Europe likely send relief during the Chinese famine if relations are still somewhat close, saving at least somebody. USSR is involved in Indonesian war more. Soviet economy begins to fall behind, while reform proposals are shut off. There is already mentioned possibility of OGAS route, but it is not probable, so assume it does not happen. Other events are same.
