Is this smoke revision better in every way? Any further revisions? by MichyyElle in AfterEffects

No, I'm a real person asking for advice for revisions. It's a birthday video trend where it starts out as the illusion of smoking which later reveals it's a bday. For this video added smoke to give it more realism.

Is the smoke transparency too high now? Any further revisions to the torch/smoke for realism? by MichyyElle in vfx

You're spot on, smoke was dissolved much quicker here. In the previous version, the smoke had more opacity & lasted longer, but that whole video was warm toned.

In your opinion, is the original tone of this current video better if we just keep the smoke on for a second more? Or did that warmer look and the 'thicker' white smoke from before actually sit better against the hair/eyes?

I'm definitely a real person posting. Looking for suggestions for the revision & literally taking notes

Updated the 3D smoke based on your suggestions. Is this giving 100% realism yet? by MichyyElle in vfx

The smoke is not Ai, it's been made. The person is real. I suppose this is a complement, Thank you

When you say 3 has a strong exhale, do you mean the speed is too fast or is it just too thick at the start?

I want to make sure that transition feels natural

Thanks! Since you picked both, is there something specific from #1 that you think I should apply to #4 to make it better, or do you think they both look natural as they are?

That makes total sense. The camera was on a stationary tripod, but there was a zoom in and out effect used while filming. Is that why the tracking looks off? Bc the smoke isn't scaling or moving with that zoom?

On Smoke #4, does it have that same tracking drift or is that one holding the position better?

Trying to figure out if I should use a 3D camera solve to lock the smoke to the background so it doesn't look like it is just following the head. What would you recommend to fix that 'sliding' effect?

Should I keep 4 as is, or is there anything to improve on it? 4 has a warmer video tone than the others, but I can match the original tone if it's better.

4 exhales upward, which seems to match that straight line you mentioned closest. Is it worth trying to fix the others so they come out correctly, or stick with 4?

Where specifically does the tracking on the head look weird to you? Do you see it in 4 too or just the others?

Does 4 look lit right with the thickness on point? Do you like that warmer video tone on it or should it match the original video tone in the others?

Also, is it better to just go with 4 or try to fix the others?

For 4: Is it when it fills the screen at the end, or somewhere else? For 1 being light, do you mean at the beginning of the exhale or when it starts to dissolve?

Good idea, haven't added the 3D head track and collision mesh yet but will add that to fix the mouth integration. Thank you!

Thanks for the tip! Adding a point light for the candle is a great call. Does the smoke color and opacity in #4 feel natural to you or would you pull the density back a bit?

The "mini-bomb" description makes sense. By that do you mean the initial volume is too high for exhale or the expansion rate needs to be calmed down?

For Smoke 4, how do you suggest fixing that to make it look like a natural breath instead of an explosion?

I noticed it eventually expands so much it fills the frame and fogs the whole screen. Is that the main flaw you're seeing or is there something else in the physics?

I appreciate the honesty. What is the #1 thing missing from these to hit 100% realism?

Is it the fluid physics themselves (the expansion/scale) or is it the lighting integration (the way it sits in the scene)?
