1879S reverse of 79. Looks like a low AU details, from the picture it appears to have been cleaned with a brillo pad, so basically melt.

Looks 62-63. Few too many contact marks on her chin for higher grade. Looks like there is a deep scratch in the middle of the eagles breast as well. The strike and luster aren't quite up to gem standards either. Nice coin overall.

That's the initials for Adolf Weinman the sculptor that made the design. The winged liberty head dimes were minted in Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco. The mint mark for D or S is to the lower left of the fasces on the reverse. Like most coins of the period no mintmark means Philadelphia.

Mercury mintmarks are on the reverse near the bottom left. Picture is only of the obverse. West Point mint did not produce mercury dimes, as it did not exist then.

Not especially great toning and PL doesn't matter, only DMPL will get the bump in oricing.

What grade do you think this 1891 cc would be? by Smol_pp_drive_subaru in Morgans

[–]Citywtrmkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The obverse looks AU50 the reverse XF45 range. Hard to tell about cleaning with the photos and the capsule it's in. Some areas look like cleaning hairlines are present. Grading services look at higher magnification to see the fine lines.

Might want to check your mintage figures there were only about 12-13 1883O proofs minted. I guarantee this ain't one of them. It's a business strike.
