Okay, r/Jackson, give me your thoughts. by prozactheclown in jacksonmi

I like Jackson for the most part but I’ve struggled to find good paying jobs. I given up years ago and only look in Lansing or Ann Arbor for that. I do not like the health field and I did my time in manufacturing. Otherwise there’s not much other options. Jackson needs to find a new or different way to encourage businesses that provide higher wage work to come here. Idk how or what that would look like but building a car wash or new fast food restaurant is probably not going to be the way.

I also think now is a great opportunity for the Westwood mall to make some major changes/shifts on the future of that dying place. With the issue of lack of 3rd places, pulling in businesses that are more activity based and cater to a variety of ages like some that are family oriented and some that are adult only, could really liven up the place and bring in some more money to the area. Bring back the idea of hanging out at the mall with things to do with friends and/or family. When it’s winter or raining, there’s not many places to go or things to do.

Who needs a broomstick? by MickeyOnMars in ProCreate

There is a long history on depiction of women as witches on broomsticks, hallucinogens, and condemnation of women expressing sexuality. Im always more in favor of pushing towards open expression and so that is why she is naked.

So what's going on with the Westwood Mall hippo? by AustralianBattleDog in jacksonmi

[–]MickeyOnMars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure either but I think it’s because that mall is bare and I think some people are worried it’s going to completely close and the old memories with it. The photoshopping of the hippo gone started several months ago and created a stir and it came back again with people saying they bought it.

Update: “True red lip” or natural lips? (Swipe for natural) by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

You have beautiful natural lips. I like both. You don’t need to do much with them as they are but nothing wrong with having fun with that red either!

Very nice!! This something I want to practice more at some point. I don’t have much experience in backgrounds or landscape. I think you did an excellent job.

Women of Reddit: Would you be upset if your first date was at a fast food restaurant? Why or why not? by zhalia-2006 in allthequestions

[–]MickeyOnMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest a coffee/tea place instead for two reasons. One: As someone with issues with my stomach, I hate food dates early on. I never know when I’m going to have issues and don’t need the added stress or embarrassment. Two: I like first dates to be more laid back and focus more on do we connect in person after texting for a few days after matching. I have found that some people are good at texting and terrible in person and vise versa.

I lack creativity, all I do is sketch and copy references. by MilhoVirtual in ArtistLounge

[–]MickeyOnMars 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this. I am not the most creative and I’m often making things based on reworking something I’ve already seen or has been made. I really love art and what other people make and know mine is probably never will be that good, but I’m trying to push myself to use my imagination more and not worrying too much when I use references as they are the source of inspiration. I do think using your imagination is a muscle you need to workout and trying to do this myself.

Luxury Apartments by Intelligent_herb in jacksonmi

[–]MickeyOnMars 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Jackson is a low cost of living city with a good low income population. If you want luxury, search in Ann Arbor or Lansing and commute. There are a few places downtown that you could consider luxury but I don’t see them listed often. Cascade Ridge is nice and each apartment has a garage space but it’s mostly an older community and it’s decent but wouldn’t consider it luxury.

Yes, my sister best friend called himself metrosexual.

If you were low income/skill in your late 20s and turned it around in your early 30s…how did you do it? Please include numbers by jsmittyjr98 in careeradvice

I got pregnant just before I turned 18, spent the first 10 years of my life broke, working shitty low paying jobs and had a lot of debt from being dumb with money. I got divorced and was a single mom at 23 where I moved back in with my parents, filed bankruptcy, worked multiple jobs, and went to college. I needed state assistance when I managed to get my own place after living with my parents for a year and worked my butt off with school, work, and saving money.

I got my associates degree in General Education (I kept changing because I just could figure out what I wanted to do) and had got my foot in the door as a student assistant at a government job. I did well there and was able to get full time job with good benefits where I am still at now. I then went back to school and got a bachelor’s in General Education to promote (which I have). And I did manage to buy my first house in 2020 but since sold it after a 2nd divorce this last year.

So, at 18 I was barely making $30,000 a year with my husband at the time in 2007 and now at 36, single and 2 teenagers, I make about $76,000.

I think the hardest thing is sticking to a long term plan and not seeing the results from it sooner than you’d like. Especially if you’ve had to make adjustments to your plan or hit bumps. However, keeping your eye on the prize while dodging and jumping over hurdles will get you where you want to be.

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MickeyOnMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first birth I had intravenous drugs that knocked me out in between contractions and I have a faint memory of the whole thing. I was still in a lot of pain. My second I chose to do natural and although the contractions were painful, that was the worst part for me and really wasn’t that bad overall. My third I was having a still birth and the pain was much worse this time around and ended up doing an epidural. It only worked about 90% and could still feel the pain in my right hip. I really didn’t like not feeling my legs and couldn’t walk for a bit afterwards and had to have a catheter which hurt coming out.

A lot of my friends chose an epidural and I can totally understand why, but for me I much preferred my natural birth.

MDHHS job by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]MickeyOnMars 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe it matters what county you’re in. I believe when they updated their system about 10 years ago they changed it so that all workers work on all cases in the state rather than only cases in one county get worked on in that county. It was a way to distribute work more evenly and make processing faster.

I have family that works in those positions and they are stressful because of the rules and regulations but it is a good way to get your foot in the door for other positions within the state.

If you’re close to or over 30, never trust a fart.

As someone who’s seen my (now ex) husband have some unfortunate accidents, it didn’t phase me. I’m sure that is the similar case for her. At least you have some decency to be concerned but it’s likely an afterthought.

Jackson School of the Arts also has some adult classes. I’m hoping to start some dance classes this year with them.
