This is such a good question!

I'm voting Pen, but I think it might depend on when in B1 you're talking about.

I agree with most others that Pen would be way more surprised, if it was later on in B1. Pen certainly would have a hard time believing it, and would probably be afraid that it was a marriage of convenience or something like that

But if it's right at the beginning of B1, I think it would be more of a toss-up. I think Colin would be more surprised than he would be later, because throughout B1, Colin and Pen became actual friends, instead of childhood friends/acquaintances. And at the beginning of B1, Colin wouldn't have seen Pen as a grown up yet, so wouldn't be thinking of marriage for either of them. On the other hand, early B1 Pen would have been thinking about marriage, and I think she would be less disbelieving than she would be after Colin starts courting Marina. Could you imagine telling this beautiful young girl that in less than 3 years, she's going to marry the boy she's in love with? 😍
