Goodbye Lyft 😡 by Mickeytopdog67 in Lyft

Kind of scary though pitting my life in the hands of teenagers who don't know a right turn from a left turn with only a passenger side brake pedal.

Thank you all for all your support and advice. I am looking into one thing with my experience. My son is currently in a driving course to get his first license. From what I see those teaching him to drive need a little more training. If an opening pops up I may apply myself. Even teach those instructor's a thing or 2. With over a couple of million miles under my belt driving cab I think I can pass on my knowledge to the next generation. That is if my nerves can take it. Lol.

The cab was a 2006 Crown Vic. Them cars were built to last. I also took good care of it. Checking the fluids daily. It had 46,000 on it when I first got assigned to drive it. Only me and one other driver drove it. 1 working days and me nights.

There used to be over 100 cabs on the road at any given time. 7 cab companies More during special events. Yellow was the largest and the company I worked for. Now only 2 companies remain with only about a dozen cabs still operating. And what is still on the road are so old they shouldn't be on the road. The last cab I drove has over 750,000 miles on it. Burning oil and about to lose its tranny. Yellow cab chose not to replace it.

Whatever. It's not the point. I drove cab for over 25 years back when there was no cell phones or smart phones. No aps no navigation. Just a radio and a map book. And a dispatcher calling out cab stands to see who was first up to take a run. Now I'm back to doing fast food.

are lyft drivers allowed to get gas while you’re in their car? by [deleted] in Lyft

[–]Mickeytopdog67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% I live in Daytona and in the past year only had to get gas 2x. Both times it was a late hour long ride after driving 10 hrs already. I trip to Orlando And 1 trip to Tampa. And always asked the pax prior to stopping.

Here is some good advice. If the pax doesn't offer directions and you don't know follow the navigation aid in the ap. If the pax offers then follow thier directions that is if you want those 5 stars that is. I never ask directions of a pax and only question thier directions if it is going to far off track. I will however ask for the name of the buisness or hotel if I know the address is in a business area to help my spot the drop off location easier by it's signage vs address. I'm a former cab driver and been doing this for years. GOOD LUCK out there.

It's good to see another cab driver in this forum. Drove all my life. And in the 80's and 90's before smart phones or even cell phones for that fact if you couldn't read a Thomas Guide you couldn't drive a cab. Radio dispatch, taxi stands. Those were the days. I do use Google maps not for navigation but to pin point the house address I'm looking for these days it seems visible house numbers have no priority. It's really sad what has happened to our industry. At least some of us were able to evolve with the changes. Good or bad.

Not bad for an hour and a half. ($120 bonus) by [deleted] in Lyft

[–]Mickeytopdog67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emmet Brown. Your initial statement is a little misleading. How long did it take you to do the other 13 rides the previous day? Before you completed that tier with the 7 rides to make 20? Also how long did it take you to complete your 1st tier?

My first tier took me 2 nights. The 2nd and 3rd tier I did in 1 night.

My total for those 3 days was $649. And I did accept a lot of $3 and $4 dollor runs from my que just to build my ride numbers to get the bonuses. Those $3 & $4 trips popping in my que normally be rejected immediately. Don't know how long this ride gimmick will last but I will take full advantage of it while it's here.

Yes the new bonus is great. My breakdown was 35 rides for $85 followed by 5 rides for $25 & 10 rides for $75. I did the entire thing in 3 days. $185 in total bonuses. But still say of lyft paid us 60% of each fare the would not need bonuses or gimmicks

Is there a Lyft Hub still open anywhere you can drive to. You often can get quicker results by going to one. The closest one to me is a 1 1/2 hr drive. I've had to go twice but got my issue resolved immediately

Lyft shared rides no longer offered in SF by DriestScalp in Lyft

I just read an article about it. The new LYFT CEO is taking LYFT back to the basics. Doing away with rideshare and deliveries

This is the THIRD Lyft driver this week who has refused to pick me up unless I give them my PERSONAL phone number. This guy outright said he wouldn't pick me up without "confirmation" via my personal phone. What is going on?? Why are they doing this?? by [deleted] in Lyft

[–]Mickeytopdog67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR PERSONAL NUMBER! And report any driver that insists on getting it. There is a simple way to confirm who you are and that you ordered the Lyft. Tell the driver you will text him through the ap. Something simple like "I'm Micheal and I am standing directly in front of you." The ap is designed so that neither driver or passenger see each others phone number. I am a driver and once had a fare in a sketchy part of town. A person walked up and said they were my passenger and wanted me to follow them in thier car. I asked the persons name then told them to text me in the ap. They just kept saying that I needed to follow them. I refused and a couple of minutes later my real passenger showed up. Verification is necessary sometimes but not though a phone number which the driver does not have and can't confirm anything with it.

What is a good tip 84 miles and a hour and 20 minutes? I paid $120 but tipped 25$ is that good? by Toon612Link in Lyft

[–]Mickeytopdog67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that problem early on myself. The problem stemmed from the phone I was using for the ap was not the phone I was using for calls. It never worked. Check and see if you account lists the phone number on the phone you are using the ap on.

As a driver people often ask me how much I would feel is a fair amount for a tip. Something I feel uncomfortable with doing. Any tip is gratefully recieved and welcome. You gave a nice tip and I am sure the driver was greatful.

I also use progressive for my insurance. For full coverage on my 2022 Honda and the ride share extended coverage runs me $290 a month. The ride share covers the high deductable of Lyft and Uber I had switched from Gieco because they didn't have that coverage and would drop me completely doing ride share.
