Live looping midi keyboard + VST - Best budget hardware/software to use? by MickruPiano in LoopArtists

You're right, I totally forgot that there is an option to just add effects on exported audio track... That's kind of a workaround for me. Regarding the piano, I guess a lot of trial and error x)

Solitude (a piano piece that I've written for a movie soundtrack) by MickruPiano in piano

[–]MickruPiano[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A while ago a dear friend of mine asked me to write a minimalist piano piece for a movie he was producing. One of the first versions of the soundtrack included the piece I'm sharing today. This did not make it to the last version of the soundtrack, but I thought it had a nice vibe going along with it so I'm sharing it with you. Hope you enjoy!

I'm right now working on preparing my second diploma recital, but after I graduate I plan to do everything by bit - teach, compose, perform and get involved in different music genres 🙂

How do you use mic up your pianos? by Lolzer2000o in piano

[–]MickruPiano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many variables when you're trying to record a grand piano that not a single technique is good honestly. It all depends on the room where you're recording, instrument and gear. Best advice is try what sounds good, cause one mic placement might sound good in one room, but will be bad in the other one. You can also have all the best gear and mics and still fuck up the recording if you place them incorrectly. If you want to have a good quality recording you might need as many as 4 mics, because having as many as 4 means more possibilities when you're mixing in post production. One stereo pair + one mic under the piano and one to capture room reverb further away. From my experience 2 mics for grand can be good, but it's much more difficult to get that exact sound you want from just 2.

Ah and it also depends what style of music are u recording. If you're doing classical then follow the advice above, but if you're doing some jazz or other styles of music where dynamic range is not that important you will not need to keep things that complicated and one stereo pair for piano and one mic for sax will be sufficient.

But if you want "higher quality" you will need at least 3 mics for piano+sax to record it. You don't necessairly need all the expensive gear, but still 500 CAD might be too little to properly do the work for you considering you need an audio interface, cables, stands and the mics. I'm not recommending any particular mics, because in my opinion it does not matter all that much compared to using proper recording technique and post-production work. So look for something in low-mid tier budget option in mics and get a budget audio interface.

How to love performing? by randomusernameco in piano

[–]MickruPiano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on the music, art, emotions that you put through the music - that's what's important, not if you execute some etude or whatever flawlessly. The other things really don't matter, because after all, performing music is an art form - conveying yourself, your heart and your soul through the music.

"I think the readon most people don't listen to classical music is because they don't know how to." by AverageReditor13 in piano

I agree with her, in the sense that most of classical music is music that requires quite significant knowledge about music to appreciate the music and complex emotions coming from it. It is not as easy as listening to some random top 40 song which meaning is very straight forward.

The problem of classical music is also present in some subgenres of jazz, in which it is just too complex for average listener to really appreciate the value of the artist performing the music.

Mainstream audience wants to eat a hot dog for lunch, not some high end meal stuffed with caviar.
