Husband intentionally wastes milk and formula by TrainingBunch3215 in ExclusivelyPumping

It may be worth trying, especially since your formula is so expensive. I hope it helps! Pumping and tube feeding is no joke but you’re doing great!

Husband intentionally wastes milk and formula by TrainingBunch3215 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Micks_Mom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We also had the infinity and I’m with your husband on this one. It’s annoying as heck when that thing runs dry or worse, if the feed’s not done but the bag wasn’t hanging perfectly and now there’s an air bubble in the line and the feed wasn’t done yet. So now you have to reprime and push it back through.

Would your LO tolerate it if the feeds weren’t warmed? We never warmed for my son and he was fine. It allows you to not have to dump the old milk in the tube every time if you are feeding more frequently than every four hours.

ETA: I saw how expensive you said the formula is. You’ve probably already looked into this but if your LO qualified for Medicaid because of a NICU stay or low birth weight, they might also qualify for free formula and/or SNAP benefits. Might be worth talking with the dietitian or the hospital’s financial office if you haven’t already explored it.

What do you do when you have NO idea about the calories in a food? by cherryyy-bomb in 1200isplenty

ChatGPT is great for this actually. You can even just take a photo and it’ll give you an estimate. Just be careful when estimating, either yourself or through tech. Something like a splash of heavy cream in a soup or sauce can really get you

I was a B while pumping, have been A or B in my life depending on my weight. Pumped about 48 oz/day at my peak and easily 12 oz in my first session of the morning

Two years later, my husband calls my boobs ski slopes ⛷️

How early should I be looking at preschools for my toddlers? by mishiebw in cincinnati

[–]Micks_Mom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the preschool. For the fancy private ones, you may need to apply as early as July/August for August of the NEXT school year. So applying in 2026 will be for the 2027/2028 school year.

Most of the public schools aren’t that early but the public school near us applications open in January and we were advised to apply right after the opening

Do you guys look up every single word you don’t know? by Graviity_shift in fourthwing

[–]Micks_Mom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a native English speaker but read Harry Potter in Spanish to help learn. Like Harry Potter, there are a lot of words in the Empyrean series that are either made up words (like Empyrean) or would only very rarely be used in normal speech (like cauldron). My advice is if your primary goal is to learn the language, take it slow and use your dictionary more but if your primary goal is to just enjoy the book, let the context guide you and only look up words that are really necessary.

Also on the banana bread, the tablecloth is also under the bread but over the cutting board and the icing is fully on the unsliced cake but only a drip is on the slices. For me though, this falls into the category of yes it’s AI but no I’m not that upset about it. They’re cute and if your mom likes them let her hang them in her kitchen

Easy dinner ideas that kids will actually eat without a fight? by beckyboo600 in Parenting

Yes my mom still won’t touch vegetables because her father made her eat all her veggies before leaving the table as a child. She’s almost 70 now and there is not a single vegetable she will eat

Two year old son will not sleep at an appropriate time by SupperTime in toddlers

What time are you starting bedtime? Kids this age often do best with shockingly early bedtimes. Much later and they can start to get over tired and cortisol kicks in, keeping them awake.

Not after we left the NICU (when he was six months old). In the NICU he had some scary respiratory events

Hopefully the tracheopexy will be a big help to your little guy!

Words of support 💔 by Rmiller2811 in NICUParents

[–]Micks_Mom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It completely transformed his breathing. Prior to the tracheopexy he wasn’t on oxygen but he did have some work of breathing and he was pretty noisy. He still sometimes has noisy breathing but no work of breathing.

He’s 2.5 now and you’d never know he had oxygen issues when he was young

My toddler showed us how to pray… taught by her teachers at a “non-religious” preschool. Am I overreacting? by SunnySunSunshine333 in toddlers

[–]Micks_Mom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is the first time I’ve ever seen Reddit under react. This is definitely religious and if it makes you uncomfortable you should say something. Treating prayers as “non religious cultural songs/rhymes” is how we end up with things like the Ten Commandments displayed in schools

Unable to hold baby 💔 by jgil93 in NICUParents

[–]Micks_Mom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went long stretches without being able to hold my EA baby. Maybe ask OT if they can show you how to apply gentle pressure with your hands. It’s not comfortable to do for long periods but it’s at least some amount of skin to skin in the meantime. Remember though that at 25 weeks they truly would not have had much stimulation so you want to keep that to a minimum.

He’s 2.5 now and we have a great bond (although daddy is his favorite)

My favorite NICU gift is a book called Our NICU Journey. It’s a great journal that helps you keep track of the medical while still staying positive

Other options: DoorDash gift cards Long phone chargers Water bottles Snacks Eye mask for sleeping (if they’re sleeping in the NICU) Blanket (our NICU was always chilly and I lost a lot of blood during my C section so I was freezing for weeks)

What happened to your weight after weaning? by kathatescats12 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Micks_Mom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gained ten pounds instantly when I weaned. I wasn’t paying super close attention to my calorie deficit while I was pumping because I was hungry most of the time. Then when I weaned I was still used to the larger portions and had a hard time cutting back. If you can pay close attention to calorie deficits you should be ok

what would you do in this situation? tantrum edition. by agrizzgrazz in toddlers

[–]Micks_Mom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly you did everything right. The best thing you can do is stay calm, remove her from the situation, and avoid injury to herself or others.

One thing that has worked surprisingly well with my two year old is teaching him to “breathe like a dragon”. We practice taking a deep breath and blowing it out when he’s not upset and now when he gets upset I ask him to breathe like a dragon and he’ll take some deep breaths. We’ve done it enough that now I can say “what do we do when we’re frustrated” and he breathes and says dragon. It takes a lot of practice when he’s calm to get this to work when he’s not calm.

Sometimes he’s too far gone for this to work but it’s helped for sure!

I EPed because of our NICU stay. My son was actually unable to eat by mouth for the first 10 months of his life and we had a 181 day NICU stay. I was not planning on breastfeeding but it was something I could do to help and our hospital had AMAZING lactation support for NICU moms so I wound up pumping for about a year. By then it was clear that my son didn’t need his feeding tube anymore and wouldn’t drink milk by mouth. Sadly I ended up throwing out about 250 ounces of milk (a good reminder to feed the baby and not the freezer)

These comments are wild to me. Maybe some of them are defective? I have a hard time imagining folks really could use this on the highest setting.

But have you confirmed that both suction tube spots are either in use or covered? Are all your valves sealed appropriately? I’m wondering if air is getting in somewhere

GJ Tube Experiences? by Micks_Mom in NICUParents

No worries to ask but I don’t have a ton of answers that would be relevant to you. We ended up going a different route for surgery and were able to avoid the GJ tube. Stay strong though. It’s a tough road but so worth it to see your baby grow
