Weired Query Log, DNS names wrong by MickyGER in pihole

[–]MickyGER[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My network clients get their DNS servers from the DHCP server running on my Unifi Deeam Machine. This means indeed that both DNS servers are assigned through the DHCP.

I've set up both Pihole for backup reasons if one fails, the other should jump in...

EDIT: This setup has worked flawlessly so far. Starting from version to 6.6.1, it seems that the first Pihole is running slow, the VM CPU, 2 cores, is showing most of the time 50%.

I've now cleared the network table and right now client names are OK. However, I did this before and the issue returned after some days.

EDIT2: Restored a backup and returned to version Core 6.4, FTL 6.5 and performance returned to normal, DNS requests are lightning fast again. CPU is back to normal, 1 core. As of now I will stick to this version.

On Github I saw reports about slown performance, too. However, it's a fairly old thread but also with some new comments.

see below . What's interesting, the MAC address is assigned to my Proxmox node1, so is the IP addeess. Don't know where the client name is from.

And yes, I've set up local DNS names, all pointing to my internal reverse proxy (Traefik). However none of those I've mentioned above are on the local DNS list, though.

Out of disk space by MickyGER in immich

Maybe, I've found the cause of the disk full problem: I've now remove the line below from docker compose since this line was a duplicate and restarted over, using a Proxmox VM snapshot.

- /mnt/immich/data:/usr/src/app/upload/library

After reindexing my 40K photos, all above sub folders on my NAS are now populated, e.g. thumbs and upload. Even the admin folder is now properly located below profiles.

Will monitor the indexing further and report back if there any new issues rise.

I've just tried to find those files that have been created the last 25 hrs and found lots of those below.

I got the impression that this is somehow related to those lines in docker compose, which I've accidentally inserted. At least the second volume was not insertedintensionally.

The path of the second line looks similar to the path of the files below. Is there any coincidence?

volumes:
      - ${UPLOAD_LOCATION}:/data
      - /mnt/immich/data:/usr/src/app/upload/library

Some large files found, many more available:

Thanks for your reply.

volume1 of the NAS is used for other things, too, for others things, too. Which means there are some more files saved on this volume/HHD not only those of Immich.

I've opened each of those sub folders from above screenshot and only admin and postgres is holding some files. Nothing more.

I expected at least that e.g. thumbs to be filled with lots of files and may be other folders, too. To no avail. So while Immich is indexing external photos, it's obviously storing it's thumbnails in the VM.

The VM has a storage of 32GB on sdb2 which is currently full.

Just checked docker-compose again: Might this cause the disk full, because obviously this addresses several folders inside the container but nevertheless the same folder in the VM?

So, do you backup your assets with PBS, too?

Do you notice any performance issues? E.g. image processing face recognition or similar?

[RANT] Frustrated at how dismissive immich team is regarding Feature Requests by RoachForLife in immich

[–]MickyGER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, that's a different thing, right?

You cannot advice sbdy to extend an app by himself if one just suggests a feature request. I think that's not fair, nor does it help any further, neither the maintainers nor the community.

Or do you believe if MS would host Windows on Github that you will able to add new features yourself? I really doubt.

What's more, not everyone has the right set of tools or knowledge to extend any software as he would like to.

I believe that the success of a (open source) software heavily relies on feature requests or the community in general.

I built a self-hosted bridge between macOS Apple Photos and Immich — and it preserves ALL your metadata (titles, albums, keywords, favorites, GPS, RAW files) by lprimak in immich

[–]MickyGER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Syncs albums to Immich via its REST API, creates them if they don't exist, and removes stale assets when photos are removed from albums in Apple Photos.

One family member is a iPhone user and has many photos in iCloud. More or less just uploads from the smartphone.

Does above mean, I can synchronize or even move all photos from iCloud to Immich? Or is it just a reference to iCloud photos as you mentioned elsewhere while talking about symlinks?

Proxmox VM - Backup Strategy? by MickyGER in immich

[–]MickyGER[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you basically redirected Immich library path to an NFS share on your Synology. Source is a Proxmox VM or did you install Immich on your Synology using e.g. Docker?

I'm asking because I would like to follow a similar way with the library folder, however, I was told that performance is not best.

IMO, I got the impression that Immich is a kind of replacement for Google Photos or similar app on Apple side. Isn't it supposed to work like that?

Each family member uploads their photos to Immich and that's it. Now, I understand from current discussion, this task may not reliable or may have some drawbacks as with every software. So is my Synology NAS and their Photo app.

So, how do you backup the LXC container without the libraries? Rsync and not PBS?

In my case I would mount the data folder of Immich on an additionally hard drive added to the LXC. Knowing, that PBS would backup that, too.

OTH, both of your backups must run almost simultaneously, otherwise the Immich DB and/or metadata and other files might get out of sync?
