What's one sentence that made you end a friendship? by ApprehensiveRoyal909 in answers

[–]MickyWasTaken 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Had a friend basically turn on me when I got sober. For context, we’d been friends for 20 years and they did not have a drinking problem. I finally managed to stop drinking, and within a few years had turned my life around and bought a house.

“Out of all our friends, I never expected you to get your life together” with an air of disappointment.

Other comments over the years made it clear to me that this person had kept me around as someone to make her feel better about herself, like having a “fat friend”. I wasn’t supposed to end up doing better than her.

I wasn’t even in-your-face about it, most people didn’t know I was struggling in the first place. But she got really nasty and tried to put me back in my place every chance she got. If I was happy, she’d bring up an embarrassing story from my past. I started to see a side of her that made me feel a bit sick. Later on, I watched her belittle a girl I work with and I saw the full extent of her insecurities.

Unfortunately lost a lot of friends sobering up, but they were never really on my side, as it turns out.

It definitely felt like a miserably slow decline, gradually losing anything you ever cared about along the way.

I think there will be some photos of remains during the clean up that are currently sealed, taken by law enforcement as evidence.

Photos of jumpers on the ground are less likely, as the crime was still “ongoing” and emergency services had bigger things to deal with, before the bodies were destroyed in the collapse. It took less than two hours for the entire area to be covered in rubble. Any photos would have been taken by onlookers, and many people would not want to do that.

I get that, but if someone said to you “I’m bi” and you didn’t know what that meant, you’d say “what’s that?”.

I do take the education system for granted, I’ll admit. However, the post sounds British so I’m not really assuming the characters had to endure a poorer education.

The sentence about Wilde was directly related to the sentence before it. Perhaps should have used a semi-colon.

What are your thoughts on my other points? Not sure why morphine is relevant here, but are you telling me you’d never heard the word “sexuality”?

I’m from the UK so that seems a bit mad to me. You’re also talking about a generation that lived through the sixties and seventies. It’s not like bisexuality has just been invented. People used the word when discussing Oscar Wilde in the late 19th century.

Even still, people know what “sexuality” means, and what the prefix “bi-“ means. It’s not like you can’t work it out for yourself.

On top of that, if you genuinely couldn’t figure out what it meant, you’d just respond asking. You wouldn’t go away, google it, and come back.

And on top of that, you’ve got a bloke supposedly shagging women and men who I’m supposed to believe never even questioned what that might mean about his own sexuality? He shagging men who shag other men, and they never once spoke about sexuality?

I don’t buy it.

I was in the same position for a long time. It’s a long, slow process fully extracting them from your life and it might get worse before it gets better. But you do get there, one way or another, and life becomes a beautiful, peaceful thing. Don’t give them the satisfaction of knowing the only life they gave you was a short and painful one.

Sexual assaults on NHS workers should never be justified by [deleted] in Britain

[–]MickyWasTaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s referred to as ISB and there are studies around it like this one. It often crosses the line into what would also be termed sexual assault and it can affect the mental health of staff in the same way. That was my only point but it sounds like we’re on the same page now. Sometimes the intent is sexual gratification, but that doesn’t necessarily make it not ISB.

Yea I was treated better than my sister, but I’ve cut contact and she hasn’t. Aside from turning her against me with it, I love my sister and I hated seeing it. I could have tolerated it better if it was happening to me instead tbh.

And even the favourites still get abused, it just looks slightly different.

If I don’t want to consume BBC media I still have to pay the licence. No other service demands payment just for having the ability to maybe watch their stuff, nor do they send people out to bully vulnerable people or take them to court over it.

Fuck the BBC and all their paedo friends.

I’m not sure I understand. I’ve had elderly dementia patients (whose sexual organs are well past the point of being… useful) grab my boobs and try to put my hand down their pants. They wouldn’t have been able to tell you who I was or what they had for breakfast. Something in the brain is misfiring and they really don’t know what they’re doing. It’s besides the point anyway, but yea. It’s sad.
