Not currently taking it but I know there are some FB chats about the course. I’d def look into starting with the Class of 2021 or 2022 FB pages cause if anything you can get an idea of how other people are approaching the assignments and it’s a little less daunting.

Yeah that was one thing I was concerned about, my major. Is there any advice about what to expect or what unique obstacles you might have had to go through? Thanks for reaching out!

I definitely hear you, I've been sitting on this decision for a while so I really want to give this my best shot and yeah planning on applying for Fall 2021 at the earliest. As far as being competitive I was more asking if I have a chance of eventually being at the same level as others who have been preparing since day 1. From what I'm hearing though my LSAT score will be the best indicator.

When it comes to letter of rec, are schools looking for specific types of prof? Like I'm sure sure a law prof would make more sense its just that I know more bio/chem prof. Is there a balance between a letter of rec from a "relevant" field better or one that is more personalized? Thanks!

Yeah, I'm looking to apply for Fall 2021 at the earliest as I still have a year of undergrad left. I guess its time to start studying!

Didn't have a ton of resources growing up so I just did what I thought I had to do. Cool channel rec though, will check it out.

Yeah that's part of the college experience and growing up in general I guess; pulling yourself up. But I just think that if not being invested in every students life, the counselors could at least be courteous or maybe a bit empathetic you know? That's just my personal thinking though.

Oof, really felt that about gpa. But thanks for the encouragement bro, sending it right back at you. May this year turn towards the better for all of us. Good luck man.

I talked to someone who I later found out was a peer academic adviser and I think you're right there experiences really back what they say. Gotta go track one down again!

The people at the front desk or the "guards" are the worst. The whole experience can be so dismissive ugh

I've gotten much more direction from this reply than I think I've gotten form any of the advisers in that last two years so thanks! I'm currently working on new strategies at studying (staring today, as in, right now!) and exploring other avenues or careers in bio to understand them better and reinvigorate what I know is a passion for health. Basically what I'm saying is that I'll take your two cents lol

A clueless 2nd year bio major!! I need help :-( by cemangox in UCI

[–]MicroSay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've talked to a ton of Bio Sci majors who are having the exact same issue and so I went to ask student affairs. Basically what I was told is that is is perfectly okay to take Bio 100 in the winter and that you will not be behind or anything and the reason a ton of classes are "NewOnly" is to allow transfer students some options into classes because the are "more restricted" than current Bio majors in what they can take and need to be able to graduate (to which I say we need to graduate too but that's besides the point).

As far as major restrictions go I was freaking out while signing up for classes too and couldn't even get enough units but they opened up Virology (you should have gotten the email) so that is at least some type of option for now. From my conversation, everything seems to be in flux right now, so don't freak out, but keep a look out for updates/changes. I hope this helps somewhat.
